The Catholic world was shocked today by revelations of the Pope's secret love of the blues. The previously unseen pictures of John Paul (George & Ringo) II jamming at Rome's infamous Club Mojo, published last night by Ciao Bella! magazine, were condemned by a Vatican spokeman "outrageous fakery". However, a close friend of the Pope confirmed that His Eminence was present at Sunday night's tribute to John Lee Hooker and that He jammed with the house band on "Boom Boom", blowing a mean blues harp.

The Vatican also refuted rumours that the Pope is planning to release a blues and funk album under His real name of Karol Wojtyla and, even if he did, it would not necessarily include covers of "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag", "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" and "Oh Karol". Suggestions that He is being lined up to star in Renault's next advertising campaign were met by a look of disdain.
