I say we go for former Chesterfield striker Jean Jaques Misse-Misse. With a name like that what could go wrong?

After speaking to Jordan after the Forest game this is what basically was said:
Palace are still very interested in James Beattie but not at £3 million they're asking for.
Palace are looking at a Luton Town striker who is highly rated, no name was mentioned but was later told it was Liam George.
Palace are looking at several goalkeepers in the Premiership to buy and may try to buy Stuart Taylor but it's very doubtful, no other names were mentioned though.
Jordan never told me this but saw Steve Kember after the game and he had come back from watching the Watford Vs Sheffield Utd and was obviously looking at players.
Also i heard this on the coach whilst travelling to Huddersfield on Saturday.
This guy works for the 'Tizer and he seems 95% certain that Palace will be signing a Celtic striker very soon. I think that it could well be Mark Burchill.
Anyway some players i would consider buying:
Isiah Rankin (Bradford)
Marcus Bent (Sheff Utd) just watching Nationwide Foobtall Extra and said Warnock has put a £3 million price tag on Bent.
Ian Moore (Stockport)

there is some bloke at barcelona called rivaldo
i hear he is quite useful
I know we have apparently tried (I have no idea what sort of money was offered) But I would love to see Ashley Cole back at Palace.
On the striker front I would go for Bent or shipps

Jamie Vincent
Why oh why oh why did we let him go?
I alway thought Dean Gordon was a waster, bags of skill but only turned it on when he felt like it (al la Salako).

I think sturride at derby would be an excellent buy - quick and experince of gaining promotion.
I know he's not tall but still quality.

How about that bloke at Millwall, who scored against us in the pre season. Neil Harris? He seems reasonably good as far as I know.

Forget buying players. After some of the decisions in the two matches over the weekend I suggest we try buying a few referees.

I would think the Celtic striker is more likely to be Tommy Johnson than Mark Burchill; could be wrong though.
Personally I still think Chris Armstrong would be a good signing, a clinical finisher. If spurs wont let us have him then you can't get much better in the air than Les Ferdinand.

Mark Burchil please
That would be great. Won't happen though

If there is to be a Celtic striker then Burchill is more likely...he has asked to be put on the transfer list and Johnson seems to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
Lua Lua is a supremely talented player and as of yet no-one has put in a decent offer for him (£300k from newcastle apparently) bt Colchester would let him go for £1m. Problem is he is unproven at a higher level and a little selfish - I have seen him play a few times (when I lived in Colchester) and he is class...he also seems to like playing at Colchester which seems to suggest he is not too bothered about going to the big clubs who are watching him...

Burchill's smaller than Jamie Smith though isnt he?? Hardly fits the bill of 'big target man' we've been discussing.
Lenny
31-08-2000, 07:42 PM
Again, not neccessarily a great target man, but John Aloisi was damn impressive at Pompey and scored loads of goals. He knows where the net is in the first division and has barely played a game since he went to Cov. If we don't sign that northerner at left back, then we should look at Matt Lockwood from Orient. Wadda u reckon?

Although Burchill is the same sort of player as Clinton and Forssell, he is still damn good and would be an excellent signing.
In Celtic's Euro game last week he came off the bench and scored a hat trick inside of 3 minutes! Not bad.
As for Lua Lua, i think you'll find he'll sign for Newcastle or Ipswich this week for £1m.
Still reckon £2m would tempt Barnsley into letting Shipps come back.

Given Fan's likely punishment and the fact that he is liable to be away for six weeks or so from October due to the Asian games, we could do with a defender. What about Craig Moore. (wait for groans as another ex Eagle is mentioned!). He seems to be out of favour at Rangers. Perhaps Strathclyde Eagle or another of the north of the border Eagles have the full story as to why. For Moore was one of the classiest players we have ever had. Great defender and capable of going forward and scoring. I was not convinced when he joined, and the constant changing of the squad under Venables did him no favours, but towards the end he was a rock and exuded
class. Shoot me down!

Lua Lua would a good buy for palace but in todays Eastern Daily Press--- Along with Norwich, Newcastle Manager Bobby Robson and Tottenham assistant Boss Stuart Houston were both in the crowd on tuesday while a third premiership outfit, Middlesborough, were also represented. Birmingham City Coach Mick Mills was also in attendance. The Geordies would appear to be favourites to eventually clinch Lua Lua's signature,--- definitely a red hot prospect, Simon are you monitoring the boards. Think we would get him for a million - well worth a gamble.

I think you'll find he is very highly rated by them , according to my frequent reports from up there he was by far their best player last season. I also believe he is presently injured, and was sorely missed at the weekend TEE HEE HEE

According to today's Mirror, the Clowns are trying to sign Tony Cottee. Let's hope they get him. Why does a team that's leaked 8 goals in 2 games continue to add to its large number of second rate strikers ?
They've got relagation written all over them.

Mark Burchill would be an amazing buy for palace.Wasn't he was the hottest prospect in Scotland a couple of years ago? He may not be a target man but when Forssell leaves does anyone really want to see McKenzie up front? Bent would be weel worth buying back. He looked class at Palace, 5 in 10 Premeiership games says it all. Him and Jansen only played a couple of games together but they looked amazing. As there is more chance of getting Bent back why not? Why he was sold for £325k I don't know. He was fast, strong, skillful and good in the air so he would be the perfect partner for Morrison or Forssell.
We'll just have to wait for Jansen!
P.S. Didn't Jansen say it was his dream move to come back to Palace somewhere? If he did then surely we could convince him that coming back would be a good move for him as he could really help us to go up. If it's his dream then surely he would sign.

I think we should buy Martyn, Gordon, Edworthy, Shaw, Coleman, Southgate, Hopkin, Lombardo, Bent, Shipperley, Jansen, Salako, Dyer, Thomas, Svennson, Freedman and all the lads at Brentford.
At least then we'd have an end to constant threads banging on about buying ex-players!

Gooders, why do you always have to mock others? I find it very childish and doesn't add anything to a serious debate.
Does Eric Young still play?

Sorry you feel that way Andy - it amuses me, if no one else - just the way I am I'm afraid and far too late to change now.
If you're sensitive about it, I'll make sure I don't mock you in future and I apologies if I have in the past - how's that?

I must admit, Hopkin would have been good to bring back. We need a target man, Niall Quinn?? Sunderland would never let him go though. Shipps would be a good signing.
On the joke side, Rudi Hedman, Leif Andersson and Marco Gabbiadini could be bought back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

some of you slated bassett & venables for signing players who he'd worked with before. But given the chance you'd do exactly the same!
Gooders
01-09-2000, 05:36 PM
But to be serious for just a minute...surely there is no other club anywhere ever that has had quite as many ex-players still plying their trade (at mostly reasonable levels) at one time?
No wonder ex-players always seem to score against us, there's so many of the buggers that it really shouldn't be that much of a surprise!

I agree with WEST, we should go for Carl Asaba. He's a big Palace fan, strong and powerful and scores goals.
A bit of gossip though - Peter Taylor wanted him at Leicester but Scully wouldn't sell to Taylor and hence Leicester went for Cresswell. Also Terry Burton phoned Asaba at home 3 weeks ago to say he wants Asaba at Wimbledon but hasn't got the money to buy yet. WHEN he sells another centre forward he will comeback with an offer to Gillingham. In the meantime if anybody comes in for him he is to tip Burton off.

In a moment of boredom I was wondering who the worst ex-player was who has scored against us.
Jerome Boere maybe?

Re: Carl Asaba
As a local to gillingham, they are my second team and I watch them when not watching Palace. Asaba is OK, and he may be big and strong but he doesn't really like mixing it, which is want we want in a target man. He is skillful and can do clever things, but I don't believe he is what we should be looking for. We need someone strong , positive and not afraid to get in where it hurts. Also asaba is a little innjury prone.

Craig Moore IS injured still, otherwise he is a Rangers regular, and they wouldn't sell. Burchill would be a great buy, I've seen him a few times and he is class. Morrison hasn't seemed like the same player since Steve left though.
