View Full Version : Way to the scousers: Special Train Required??

Now I don't know about anyone else, but given the state of the railways, and the time of the kick off, Isn't time we had a Palace Special train up to Liverpool?

We don't really have them any more, but the Semi Final 2nd leg has to be the time to re-instate it.

I had a look at the rail track timetable, and basically there are no trains back, unless we want to sleep at somewhere near Derby. So the options are:

Drive (I can't)
Coach (Only if I have to)
Train (Ha Ha Ha!)
Stay Over (Most likely, but not if there's a special)

So lets try and get a special going. Anyone else thinking the same?

I've been thinking about this, especially in relation to the awkward matches such as Barnsley on a Tuesday night and Forest away (no morning trains). Why not hire a minibus? Eight people will probably mean the cost is less than a train ticket each and you can have a drink on the way. A few places will pick up the van afterwards so you could drop everyone of at home - useful if you get back to London well after midnight.

Just a thought.

Two flaws with the above:

The reason there are no specials anymore, is not down to lack of numbers. The train operting compnaies simply don't want to run them anymore. Given they can't run anything like a full service at the moment, they are hardly likely to be able to schedule an extra train.

Minibuses are fine, if you can find someone prepared to drive it and stay off the bottle. Speaking from experience of running these, every time I finished a trip I swore never again. Finally the message got through after Bolton away in 1996!

With the problems that dunn-line, the new coach firm, are having coach is also not a great option at present http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/frown.gif

This might sound a mite ambitious but would there be any interest in the possibility of chartering a Plane ?

And if anybody works in the Air line business what sort of costs would be involved ?

do you think we can claim our free coach travel from the preston game for liverpool if we haven't already!!! :-))

would be nice if they ran a train back for us - but doubt it would happen.

Seeing as I stayed in Burnley & Cardiff - guess I better not break the cycle I suppose.....

No the simple solution is an Easy Jet package deal including a night at the adelphi!

CDM - taking your travel tips from a Bantam?

Bleak House, surely!

But the plane option would be suitably LARGE - and they don't have hub-caps...

As soon as I get the video I'll be content. Still ecstatic after Sunday's fishing which was better than Norwich last season.

Providing we are still in with a realistic
chance of making the final, after the first leg, i would not be at all surprised if the club were to lay on 4/5 coaches for us payed for by the club,if not more.

Heard from a fellow Fan, something about £45 for a flight up there (Ryan Air I think) - he was P1ssed when he told me though *pinch of salt*

I was toying with idea of Easy Jetting it myself.

Easyjet: the flight from Luton to Liverpool at 1700 on Jan 22 costs just £10 if booked on the web at the moment.

The problem is there are no late return flights. But if you get the return flight at 0640 from Liverpool, it's just a fiver!

So total costs = £15 + Thameslink to Luton and back = about £30. Not bad, but you still have to stay somewhere in Scouseland - or stay out all night drinking. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Just an idea.... http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Skate, I'm on the 17:00 one then I'm being civilised and getting the 12:15 back.

That 5 o'clock flight will be mad, let's make it 100% Palace! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Paul, I fly easyjet all the time across Europe and I've never once been late.

Domestic flights are usually extremely reliable.

as I said to skate earlier - what if it's foggy??

I'm scared of relying on a plane and being stuck in luton at 7pm......

don't know what to do!!!

or what happens if the weather is too bad for the plane to land and you get diverted...

(ever the optimist me!!!)

Well, if you're that worried, just get an earlier flight and have a few drinks in Liverpool.

A cab from the airport to the ground is about a tenner and will take no time at all. Even if the flight's delayed by an hour (most unlikely), you'll still get to Liverpool at 6.40pm, a full hour before kick-off.

And if the weather is too bad for the plane to land, then I'm guessing the game would be under threat anyway!

Just finished booking my plane tickets, I'm on the morning flight out gets us to Liverpool for around 8ish, just under 12 hours drinking time before the game surely a record. I would be very carefull about getting the later flight afterall we are palace fans so some things bound to go wrong.
It cost me £125 for 5 people and its going up in price all the time so anyone else better be quick.

Well another 5 of us are booked on that flight now as well. Should be an interesting flight. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif And the return.

Now all we need to do is to find decent digs for the night/early hours. Any suggestions? I know that Cream reopens its student night on the same day. Great idea Mat. But we better avoid telling them we are p1ssed up Palace fans, looking for a cheap deal.

Also the Easyjet prices will go up substantially nearer the time and once they see particular flights are getting very popular.

Booked the Easyjet flights, managed to get £12.50 return + £10 tax each (!). Well worth it and no tiring driving up the motorway.
