Number of points to bet with; 200 in the first round and 150 in the second round.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the betting masters '27 must “register” (post on this thread) before the end of 18 of February. It's free to join and the only rule upon joining is that you start your first tip with I'M IN in capitals at the start of it so that I can keep an easy trace of when people started their campaigns.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Maximum bet on any one bet is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis.

3 In the second round the 4 finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round.

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the 01 of February (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on Monday 20/02/06. Then the top four posters come together in a mini league from there on and out February month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 28, February.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on March 1.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of stake i.e. someone bets 10 points on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

10. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

11. When an event has started it is not allowed to edit one's own bets/posts.

12. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together.

I did suggest a maximum of 50 bets (the actual maximum of 200 1 point bets is too many) - this means that you have to average 4 points per bet.

I guess the leader board would look something like:

I have 18 points used from 13 bets with none in play. (Bet 3 was five separate 4-folds e/w. Which worked out to ten 1pt bets.) I'm beginning to think this was a bad idea. Perhaps to lessen confusion, only the 4 finalists should be allowed to play it like this. I can only imagine how many pages of posts we'll have this month.

This looks so troublesome... huge mess to me... no idea what's going on anymore. Even more difficult to keep track for Stig, really feel sorry for him.

New proposal for some consideration, only allow 5 or 10 points bet. Nothing else. You can either bet 5 points or bet 10 points. I think this is much more realistic in real life as well. Just expressing what i think should improve the BM. Sorry if anyone think this is a stupid proposal.

I personally think that being able to place lay bets would complicate things too much, where there are 2 outcomes (i.e. team A to get through to the next round of the cup rather than team B) you can back one and then later on in play back the other to guarantee a profit no problem but where there are more than 2 outcomes in would get tricky.

I think if people thinking of joining in don't understand many of the bets that would put them off joining in too

I agree with this one also... The old way looks much more effective, altho not necessary means efficient. Maybe the 5 and 10 points per bet should help the cause. Not aiming at anyone in particular, but betting 1 point to win 1000 is just too far-fetched !!!

Well the 'experiment' certainly opened a can of worms :o
Sorry to see so much anti-feeling about the changes but I do concede that it is somewhat more complicated (but surely no more complex than the bets we all place on a day-to-day basis).
My main reason for introducing the changes was that certain bets were effectively redundant because of the need to place a whole 10 points on them e.g. yankees, correct score or scorer bets, all of which we have seen in this month's competition.
I am, at heart, a reasonable man so in the tradition of compromise I would be willing to accept the watered down version 5 and 10 point bets (2b).
I couldn't interest you in accepting 2 point bets as well though?
