View Full Version : Which version of CM?

I'm considering buying Championship Manager for my best man as a Christmas Present.

As a CM "outsider" I've read the debates about different versions with interest, and was wondering which one would be the best. You would think that the latest version would be the best, but are the bugs still in it, or have they been eliminated by now?

From what I've read I guess the best option is the latest version and advise him to download the patches, right?

Surprised no-one has answered for you Tony.

Haven't tried 01-02 yet - which I just got on Friday - but I can recommend 00-01 which is good, once you've updated the player database.

Of course you can also get this a bit cheaper, now that the new version is out.

Don't do what I did and buy "Championship Manager 3" because it's only 4.99!

Palace are 20 million in debt and you can't buy any players (or refuse any offers for your players) - I've tried playing 3 times since I got it and I just keep getting relegated, and then sacked.

It's a challenge, but I think it's impossible!

:(

Ah well - you're known for being awkward anyway Gooders ;)

Now that is true. :)

Of course, one of the major problems with the squad you inherit in CM3 is that whilst you've got Hunt, there's no sign of Sharpling.

;)

He let me off lightly in his speech, so I think he'll get a bit more than than spent on him this year. :D

Finally went for CM 01/02. Oddly the same price as 00/01 at Amazon.

If anyone sees us in the Portmanor on Saturday keep quiet about it, thanks! :p

the best thing to do in cm3 is to get in a few free transfers. also, if u look to scandanavia, u can buy a few of those players by bidding just 10% of sell on fee. and, when a player from another team has made it clear he is going to leave on a bosman, bid 10% of fee for him, again, the club will accept it. if you can keep palace up for 2 or 3 seasons, which isnt too hard, then some1 comes in and buys the club, and you can have 7mill to spend. on the other hand, u could cheat. you can start a new game, and take over as manager of a club other than palace. by october of the first season, palace have been taken over and there is money to spend. u can then take over:p

I'd say.. buy him the 0102 version, and also give him a cd with the patches on. So he doesn't have to download them, he can just install them.

No problem! hehe. Get a data update, choose a good team and practise at how to win with the best players.. as you get better go down the leagues.. it is harder to win if you start at a lower team without any practise.

If you're new to the game, choose either Celtic or Rangers, and it's pretty easy to pick it up, and win a few titles and trophies while you do.

My best is to take Vale to the European Cup final, something which may happen in reality within the next five years.

Actually, probably not.

Or Brondby. They absolutely slaughter evreyone they face in domestic competition.

If you do take a British team, send scouts to Scandanavia, where they can pick up all sorts of studs for not much and to Holland, Belgium and Greece, where there are lots of future studs (usually playing in the second divisions) for reasonable prices.

3-1-3-1-2 is my chosen formation. Even though it has no width, so therefore should be a **** formation, I have won everything with CPFC with it, Euro Cup 8 times, Premiership something like 14 times, even the World Cup with England.

 You couldn't have played it much. :D

With 4-1-3-2 in six seasons I have one the Premiership 3 times and the Champions League once.
