Late Night Insomnia Thread

I work nights sometimes (I'm in work now), some of the BBSers in foreign places are in different time zones and, well, others are insomniacs who stay up all night surfing.

So...I've started this thread for all late-night and early morning BBSers to natter away in while the rest of us are asleep.

Who's still up then?

from my Floridian experiences it will still be warm there, but not unbearable. Is that right? I've been there at the height of summer when it's been too hot and humid to go for a walk until 11pm or even midnight. I'd take the dog out, then have another beer.

I am indeed planning in the interim to do some part-time work. I have a bit of market research lined up for next week, I am doing some freelance advertising copywriting (very competitive rates and a professional service from someone with over 20 years writing experience) and on friday I am doing a voiceover demo.

Hopefully something somewhere will pay off. I aint going back to the rat race!

The Vancouver Canucks at The (ahem) Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Ice Hockey - the second greatest sport in the world.

Vancouver beat the Ducks 3-2 in Vancouver last week and I happened to mention this on the NHL thread, knowing that Strathclyde Eagle follows Anaheim. I went to see the Canucks at home to Tampa Bay on Monday night and and they were pretty cr@p. No passion or invention - a bit like some of the CPFC performances I've seen over the years. If they play like that tonight they'll get buried and I'll have to eat a bit of the old humble pie tomorrow.

Was working on a project for Shell Oil in Indiana last year. Just north of Indianapolis and in the height of winter. How the hell do you survive that cold, snow and humidity in summer, plus the thunderstorms, and flat boring landscape? Apart from that, enjoyed the place.

Just used to it I suppose. Its always been home to me. Winter is awesome. How can you not love snow and windchills way below zero. Its all fun and games! Shame I didnt know you were there last winter, could have met up and could have tried to sneak me into a bar or something. Damn 21 age limit! It is VERY humid in the summers. I hate it, but once again Im used to it. The thunderstorms scare the sh!t out of me. We had a tornado go right through the middle of town last summer, and personally I have physically witnessed 3 in my 20 years of life. Indiana is cool place. Glad I live here, but get me out of college and Im bolting for something else:)

The second it stopped, my computer re-connected itself to the net!?

Dont let the Ducks ruin a great sport for you Hedgehog. I have to say I love it just as much as football now. Fighting breaks out just as in rugby, only a bit more often because of the smaller size arena and high-impact collisions.

Whatever you do, make sure that you try to avoid flying in and out of 'Hot'lanta. Had to change planes in this sh!t hole of an airport 4 times this week and never got out on time.
Today we were held on the runway in Memphis for an hour due to weather and on arrival in 'Hot'lanta, my flight home was delayed 2 hours due to the weather.
Pick the SouthEast jlm, and you too can suffer flying in and out of 'Hot'lanta!:grrr:

My friend here who came from Nottingham (Forest Fan) thinks just like you. He is a Detroit Red Wings Fan, complete with License Plate REDWNGS. Sorry, but I just can not get into it. Kind of like 5-A-Side football I guess, great to play but not a great spectator sport (for me anyway)

Ideally Ill be in Bristol, Connecticut working for ESPN....In all reality Ill probably be hopping around the US every 2 or 3 years for a while until I work my way up and work in a large market (for news sports), or I get a play by play job and then Ill go where the team goes.....

There is no such thing as an easy win for the Canucks this year. They seem perfectly capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory any time they play.

It does seem strange having hockey in all these places down south. Many Canadians live for their hockey, just like the Brits live for football. It’s hard to imagine the kids in Tampa Bay or Phoenix growing up with the same passion. Do they have Minor and Junior leagues, or is it all about the big bucks of the NHL?

I dunno.. it is testament to hockey's appeal that it should be growing in popularity. I do know that before the Coyotes came, the Phoenix RoadRunners were very popular and there is a lot of road hockey played here too. Also nearly everyone in Phoenix is from somewhere else and most come from Detroit, Chicago and the like.

Nothing's very wrong, just the fact that I'm here for the next 10hours and I'll only get about 3 hours sleep before the BBS Bash tomorrow lunchtime. Mind you they're making redundancies next year so I ought to be thankful I've got a job at the moment. Still not happy about working Xmas day and Boxing day though.

Now that seriously sucks! What would annoy the hell out of me is the fact that management already know who will be marched outside, but still have them working like dogs over the holiday season. Or am I being a little harsh?

I was aware that the company I work for, was going to make redundancies this month. I was in a position to know who. They then informed me that it would happen on the 19th, today. They changed their mind when I told them that this would do untold damage to the image and interests of the company so close to the holidays. "Here is a pressy, have a nice time, thanks very much, now don't come back". They decided to wait until the New Year when traditionally it is easier to find employment.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out!

These days most Telecomms engineeers go on the dole! Seriously, it's not a fun business to be in on the redundancies front. Strange that for an industry so important to the internet, e-commerce and so on, it's losing people left, right and centre. However I don't think it will last long.
