So who is it - in relation to their success I'd have to say Ryan Giggs, but that's personal.
At Palace it's obviously Craig "can't run, can't pass - what do you do ?" Foster.
For England it's Shearer.

Well, I believe the worse person to have ever pulled on an England shirt must be Alan 'Pony' Smith from the Arse. Goodness gracious me!! Still, funny that he replaced Lineker in his last ever England game. Can't all be bad!!

Also Roy Keane, all he does is foul.

When I saw the title of the thread come up on screen, I straight away thought "must be Ryan Giggs" - and then b****r me if the first poster doen't say exactly the same thing...
For Palace: just has to be Michele Padovano! When he signed everyone thought "wow - hot-shot Italian striker - we've hit the jackpot". What a disappointment!

Bruce Grobbelar & David James. Bloody rank keepers. Hans Segers was an over-rated tosspot as well.
James is appauling but he got called up for England ahead of Nige!

Giggsy is my first choice too. Most players gain a reptuation based on a couple of moments of brilliance. Its doing it on a regular basis that's the difficult bit.
Can't think of any Palace players. Did we ever buy anyone who came with a "top drawer" tag? Brolin I suppose. I just thought we created them and then sold them on. Sansom, Taylor, Wright, Collymore (for a while), Gordon (sadly only for a while), Southgate etc.

The Liverpool team of the mid eighties, in any other era they would not of had that level of sucess. Most overated fans Newcastle.

Got that one right LP. All you ever hear from commentators is how much passion they have in the north east. All they do is clap.
Anyone else who went to the FA cup 3rd round last season can tell you that. We outsang them for 90 mins.
Geordie passion ? - my arse.

For me it has to be Leif Andersen, i thought he terrible, Valerien Ismael must come close aswell. Padovano would of been ok if it wasn't for the injury he picked up against Liverpool,

Come on Whitehorse,Let's Sing A Bit More!!!
But did anyone ever rate Leif in the first place?

For Palace it had to be Bobby Bowry he was poor and small and funny!
But in the world i would say the most overated player is Alex Harding formerly of Dorking Fc and even got a trial with Swansea. This 6ft+ giant was the least nimble "human" ever to have graced this planet even though none of you lot will have ever heard of him you'll just have to take my word for it!

For England, what about Bryan Robson? We always did better when he was injured, which fortunately happened a lot. He also wins the most over-rated club manager award (and Terry Venables is the most over-rated Palace manager).

Come to think of it, there were two Bryan Robsons and the other one was OK. Also two Gary Stevens, and lots and lots of David Watsons.

It has to be Michael Owen.
What the fu*k has he done? He scored 1 good goal against Argentina and everyone loves him. What has he done now? Fu*k all execpt getting injured. And when im arguing with mates about it they say "I bet youd want him in your team?) Well NO, pile of teenage sh*te! Same as John Barnes, he scored a goal against Brazil, and everyone thinks he was good.

One of my best friends revels in football history, so I'm tempted to say Puskas http://cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif
Overall probably the most over-rated I've seen was Paolo Di Canio. The two times I saw him play for Sheffield Wednesday he was greedy to the detriment of their team.
Palace wise... Michele Padovano, Gareth Taylor, Andy Preece... the list is endless, isn't it?

Other clubs how about Casaraghi?

I really hate to say this as he was in the first Palace side I ever saw, which remains my most loved Palace side of all time,he held (still holds?) the record as the youngest player to ever play for Palace in the league, and he also played for us in every position except goalie, but I never saw Phil Hoadley have a good game. The press loved him though, and he was always being touted as a future England captain etc etc,but it never quite happened for him.He did have a long career though with Orient and Norwich after us,so maybe it's just me that feels that he was a bit overated?.
------------------
Number one would be Kevin 'bambi on ice' Francis and second would have to be Marc Vivien Foe. Why o why anyone would want to even bid £5million for him is CRAZY! Although I am sure Goldberg would if he had any money.

You hit the nail on the head. Dirty elbowing Norfolk farmer. Stan Collymore as well I remeber him Kneeing the ball high and wide from two yards out in his Palace days. Bunch of Arse Manic Depressive Fella.

It's difficult for a Palace player to be over-rated by his own team's supporters - by the time that their career has finshed, everyone normally comes to their own conclusion about their abilities.
You could name a player like Ansalem or Zohar, where someone must have rated them to pay an inflated fee, but I at least had never heard of them before they came. Over-rated Palace players are therefore most likely to be English League ones who ought to have been good, but weren't. My nominations are Charlie Cooke - from a long way back, good for Chelsea, forgettable for us - and Gabiadini, who was supposed to be a cult god at Sunderland before we got him.
For England - I still nominate Bryan Robson, especially as no football writer was ever supposed to admit he was dirty - "committed" was the approved adjective.

John Barnes is the first player who comes to my mind! Fat bast**d who for the last 10 years (or so) of his career he didn't do anything else but pass the ball to the side and/or back, and thus getting the highest pass-completion rate every year... fitted good in at Liverpool, which in my mind is the most overrated team, never liked their playingstyle, boring passing in their own half... sleepy stuff...

I played against John Barnes many years ago, around 1977ish.I was playing for about the best youth side in North London,he was playing for the best youth team from West London,Stowe Boys Club. They absolutely destroyed us,Barnes was brilliant and put 6 or 7 goals past me,and they beat us 9-0 in the end.He really was brilliant as a young lad.I always kept an eye on his career after that, and when he made a name for himself with "that" goal against Brazil,
I was really proud to have played on the same pitch as him, even if he did make me look like an idiot!.I did expect more of him than he actually produced though. He seemed to lose the plot a bit somewhere along the line, and never lived up to the expectations of people like me who'd seen him in his early days.

Per Bartram vy all accounts was very overated.
Bryan Robson complete over rated twat. Anyone who plays for Man Utd.
Shouldn't Gareth Taylor come under complete and utter waste of money?

interested in sydney.

Per Bartram was not over rated he was crap as was his Danish bun chum Borge Thorup. From that era add Ian Phillip , Derek Possee,Bobby Bell the only Palace player to injure himself washing his hair, and many other bert Head signings. In general big Mal always got it wrong Daley 1000000 from Wolves when a mill was big dosh for a player ,and McKenzie 250,000 for a Palace junior. For England Luther I scored a lot against some bum side , Luxembourg but missed plenty more Blisset and either of the Fashanus. God the list is endless.
Tom are you still in Sydney?

Bryan Robson - 'Captain Marvel' who spent most of the match complaining to the Referee (will make an Ideal replacement for 'Rose tinted Alex Ferguson!).
John Barnes - whose England career was based on 'that' goal against Brazil - and never came close to repeating it (or anything like it again).
David Beckham - most of his crosses for England are crap.
Frank Leboeuf - just a French tw*t
Patrick Viera - ditto
David Seaman - just for keeping Nige out of the England team.
