Crystal Palace have been linked to the Northampton Town striker Steve Howard - a big lumbering centre forward, who has not got a great goalscoring record, but is a good target man. Does anyone know about it?

No. But does he start every week cos I though Jamie Forrester and Marco Gabb.... were there main strikers.

Steve Howard - Centre Forward Age - 24
Strong, powerful centre forward, good in the air, and renowned for getting "stuck in". Has a lot of potential, but needs to score more regularly.

We've got forwards with potential we need a proven goalscorer with a decent record Brian Deane

taken from a northampton site: I can confirm that Steve Howard will be transferred to Crystal Palace later this week for a fee of £750,000. Of course its all still subject to medicals, contracts etc, but you heard it here first!

well he is good in the air and can hold up the ball, but hasn't got great pace or goal scoring record. But I suppose we have got pace in Morrison and Mckenzie.

This is CRAZY! If the guy can hardly get a game playing for Northampton then what the flying fu*k are we doing signing him, let alone for £750,000!!!! He doesn't even score goals from the sound of it!!! Absolute stupidity!!!

It means fu*k all if he is big/strong/can head a ball - we need an experienced pro who will do all that AND score goals!!!

Unbefuc*inglievable...

Steve Howard is actually now a permanent fixture in the Northampton Town side and is consigning Gabbiadini to the bench. But that is because the Cobblers play a high percentage of long ball and he has become a good target man. His goalscoring record for Northampton is 56 appearances, 11 as sub and 13 goals. He has come on especially towards the end of last season and the beginning of this making 9 appearances, two as sub and scoring three goals. He is well known for giving 110 percent in every game he plays, although he got a really hard time in his first year - because he just didn't perform and had a penchant for missing easy chances. Nevertheless he got over that and has won the Northampton crowd over, including those, like myself, who were critics.

This Howard bloke really doesn't sound like what we are looking for, Brian Deane on the other hand sounds like a good shout

El Padrino - Brian Deane are u on drugs? If we don't want Steve Howard, being a master of the long ball game, then why the hell would we want Brian (I have neck ache from staring into the sky to watch from where the next long ball is coming from) Deane.

It is not panic stations yet and there are enough decent strikers at this club (young Mikkel for one) to get us out of this mess.

Over and out.........

If we are to get a "big strong" centre forward for the first team we will need two, the real one, Booth/Beattie? and a reserve so that we can play the same formation when the main guy is suspended or injured. Well, that's how pro clubs are run http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif

And that's why we won't be adopting it!
