I wrote to Simon Jordan some weeks ago re the possibility of a testimonial being granted for our ex-manager Malcolm Allison. I have as yet received no answer.
I strongly believe the great man is entitled to some pay back from our club for the great work he did for us during the mid-Seventies.
I am not sure whether the administration side at Palace is any good, in terms of replying to fans letters, or if it is just a lack of interest or rudeness on Jordan's part.
It is no good just wheeling him (Allison,) out at a home game, and having us wave to him, as a final goodbye, the man deserves a more tangible tribute.
Please contact Jordan if you feel as I do, perhaps some of you actually have some sort of face to face contact with him, and tell him you feel a testimonial is right for Mr Allison.
Maybe if enough of us show an interest, it will bring results.

Football clubs rarely respond in writing to fans, let alone chairmen. Now if you had offered the club a cash sum, you would no doubt have had a gold embossed letter by return of post.
Unfortunately as you were asking the club to do something for nothing, your letter probably went in the bin and he (Jordan,) probably didn't even see it. Simon Jordan doesn't seem like a sentimentalist and as he is undoubtedly driven by money, setting up a testimonial, even one for his old grannie, let alone a long-departed ex-manager, would not appeal to his business instincts.
To 'modern men' like Simon, Malcolm Allison, is in the past. Remember if we don't evolve, we'll die

Strange thing is that Noades always responded to fans letters. You may well not have liked his replies but at least you got one. One letter I wrote to Moan U got a reply from the red faced one as did one to Wenger at Arsenal.

True - Noades always seemed to reply to fan's letters - even if you didn't like them / were offended by them - whereas Ken Bates NEVER replies apparently (certainly didn't to my letter).
Arsenal reply to letters that don't even need a reply!!!

So, no more sex-appeal Simon Jordan ...
Just an ordinary chairman. A decent one?

Isn't it funny how people have selective memories about events?
Malcolm Allison did get us relegated twice, from memory I don't think the club was doing too well immediately before Bert Head his predecessor left were they?
What Malcolm Allison did do along with John Cartwright. was get us to an FA Cup semi-final, and lay the foundations for Venables to grab all the credit for the team we had in the late Seventies and early Eighties.
I'm fed up with this now. If idiots just want to be poisonous about a man who can't defend himself, then good luck to them.

Oi Regan, get out of the car slowly. Malcolm brought us two relegations but also great times and as Henry Hall and his thing said built the team for Venables to take over. For me the Malcolm years were fantastic.
Didnt Venables also take over a growing QPR side and ruin them, and Barcelona and Tottenham? One good season and off you go.

I'm confused ... I thought Malcolm Allison had ALREADY had a benefit day at Selhurst around March '95 - it was a sort of mid-season open day.
I think Nigel Martyn played upfront in a short exhibition match which kicked off around noon ... I remember was too hung over to go, but I'm sure I didn't dream it.
Anyone else remember it?

I expect to get dogs abuse for this but here goes anyway: -
How the hell can Malcolm Allison be due a testimonial? – he got us relegated 2 seasons in succession. I experienced my first and second relegation’s in 2 successive seasons as a Palace fan under his managership, and he’s treated as some sort of demi-god.
He caused me almost as much unhappiness as a Palace fan than Mark Goldberg. That’s how large he f*cked up.
He was handsomely waged whilst Palace manager and if he chose to blow it on champagne Bunny Girls and big cigars then that’s great. But when the money dries up, don’t come crying to me.
Let’s start talking about a testimonial for an ex-manager who’s given 16 years of his life to the club first eh?

Big Mal had a benefit game against Tottenham, light eighties/early nineties which I remember going to & it was also pre-season if I remember rightly.

So, he was wheeled onto the pitch at half time yesterday while half the crowd were having a p. No great reception for him, he must be even more depressed now.

Sorry to hear that. Any tribute should have been done properly or left alone.
He probably went home to his flat feeling a lot more depressed.
Still waiting for that reply, and I won't be holding my breath!

who knows!!!!
I didn't even mention mr Jordan in my previous posting!!!
on the subject of the testimonial - to be honest it was a bit before my time - and I don't suppose I'd be the only one. When SJ was asked about it on the radio I think he said they were trying to get hold of him for Sunday(which they obviously did) but not a testimonial - I honestly don't think that many people would bother to go.
I think they should (which SJ said he was) concentrate on a testimonial for Simon Rodger first and foremost.

A testimonial is a daft idea. A high perecentage of the crowd wont even know who he is.
That aside, Big Mal gave us some great times as well as relegations. Its what sticks in the mind that counts and the cup run of 76 along with all the furore and fedora is what I remember.
We don't owe him anything, but I still have respect for the man - remember his comment about Palace being the stronger side prior to extra time at Villa Park?
