Groups of 4, the best two going through..the bottom two go into the UEFA cup. Head to head’s, home/away. All this a little bit depending on number of entries...
The rules (simply put)
15 bets pr match (2 weeks pr match).
Two matches against each-other. Home/away rule; The “away team” will have to post up all their bets before the last day (will mean midnight Saturday’s). This giving the “home team” a slight advantage. You can of course bet on events taking place on the Sunday.
We are mainly using BM rules, that means for example that;
Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
The bets must be possible to do in real life.
Example ; Tourno schedule:
1.stage:
Round 1 (weeks:45/46): match 1
Round 2 (47/48): match 2
Round 3 (49/50): match 3
Round 4 (51/52): Match 4
Round 5 (53/1): Match 5
Round 6 (2/3): Match 6
2.stage: (4/5): 8 teams
3. stage: (6/7): 4 teams
4. Stage: (8/9): 2 teams

Not to mention No1Fan, Al from Bromley, Flat Noodle, Si1965
Other ones who have gone in it in the past and not really been seen since or mentioned yet on this thread being
Richdeniro
Hang the DJ
Drunk Eagle
Gav the Hamster
Tor
Poolking
Maybe give it a week or so and see how many we have, think we really need 16 and should be able to get it. The November Betting Masters may attract people's attention. We can always send past entrants a quick PM as most probably won't even know it's happening

Basically what we did the last time was all group winners go through. And the 3 best number 2.
Finbar
11-11-2009, 03:55 PM
Would that work better than 4 x 5 man groups? Would it mean some 2nd placed people don't go through? Happy either way just wondering what format you think works best

Only problem with 5 man groups is..that every other week..someone has got no games..is maybe easier if you got games each week?

Games each week is easier, and means the process won't take as long!
Hopefully i'll have a better ranking this year, after coming 4th in the uefa cup

Yeah...well the "whole idea" with the BM CH..is that it takes some time.
The plan was to have 1 match (15 bets) go over 2 weeks..thus dragging the competition long into 2010..
But the players decide of course..
Rankings yeah..should look at those I guess. JCM usually sorts those out;-)
Finbar

Great point and definitely best to have a game every week :p
Other alternative (just an idea but might be overcomplicating things) is to have all winners go to quarters and then 8 others go to a round before, that way you don't get knocked out for finishing 2nd (and two best 3rd places would go through...mind you that means only 4 going out!!)
Stigma
12-11-2009, 02:57 PM
Is interesting discussing format:)
Well I think it seems like we at least agree upon going for 5 groups - 4 players in each group.
What to do with the next stage is a bit harder..
I think personally that the idea above..8 others going through to a round before and then only 4 players really go out..is a bit too complicated..
But up for debate..if many want then of course.
Stigma
12-11-2009, 02:59 PM
Schedule suggestion..with groups of 4 players..this is basically same as in the past..
Match 1: weeks 47/48
Match 2: weeks 49/50
Match 3: weeks 51/52/53
Match 4: weeks 1/2
Match 5: weeks 3/4
Match 6: weeks 5/6
20 players in at the moment = 5 groups if we use 4 players.
All winners and the 3 best number two's go through to the CH quarter finals. The losers fight it out in a UEFA Cup version..
Quarter Finals: weeks 7/8
Semi-Finals: weeks 9/10
Final: weeks 11/12
Means finished early april.
We could do a bigger break for christmas as some have suggested. But that would mean stopping at the 13 of december I guess..maybe too early.
What is interesting to get some feedback on is the slowness of this schedule.
1 match over 2 weeks.. 10/15 bets? Is that too slow.
I like it..because the BM CH version is supposed to take longer time. Is not a rush rush with bets.
But if the majority thinks it is too slow moving then..
Finbar
12-11-2009, 03:02 PM
My comments, just to start the discussion
10 bets in 2 weeks is a little slow, 15 maybe?
Being knocked out for coming 2nd in the group seems harsh, how about:
Best 2nd place record goes through
Other 4 2nd places have a 1 week one match knockout to get rid of two of them leaving 8 for the next stage

Just throwing in my opinion in for what its worth (since you asked for them Stig). There are pros and cons of 4 groups of 5 v 5 groups of 4. But surely, 4 groups of 5 has the advantage of keeping qualification much simpler, with the top two going through. Trying to organise it around 5 groups instead seems to make it unnecessarily complicated to work out who has qualified, whichever criteria you end up with.
The only disadvantage mentioned for four groups of 5 is that someone doesn't play every week. Personally, I don't see that as a major issue. You usually find that at least one person (often more) doesn't play every week even when they are supposed to! :)
Jim Cannons Moustache

can i suggest something
no? well I will anyway.
I reckon 5 groups, 5 group winners plus biggest profit making runner up go through, 4 other runner-ups in two one week play-off matches, 2 winners go through.
that way everybody plays every week during the group stage plus the top two in each group all progress to the next stage, albeit for 4 runners-up that next stage is a play-off.

200 per match should make it interesting. Btw, I vote 5 groups of 4 and the playoff system put out there.
What about giving the home side one extra bet as an advantage?

What about giving the home side one extra bet as an advantage?
Sounds a bit heavy to me..but up to the "people".. :)
Home team advantage is usually that the away team have to post up all their bets before the last betting day.

Seems at least like most people want 5 groups - 4 players in each group.
And some sort of knock-out round for the worst number 2's.
So will make the draw for the competition. The schedule would be same format as the real CH for the first group stages.
Starting on monday is my thinking. 2 weeks - 15 bets pr match seems the most popular also.

I only had 3 bad matches in the April Champions League event:

So look at whose group I'm drawn into!
I'll be out to break the curse this time around!

We are mainly using BM rules, that means for example that;
Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used.
