I was speaking to a friend earlier today who unfortunatly is a Charlton Supporter. We were of course talking about his forthcoming humiliation tomorrow, when he told me about his trip earlier in the year to Coventry.

Apparently while he was up there, he kept bumping into friends from many years earlier who supported West Ham, Chelsea, and the like, who have decided to jump on the Charlton Bandwagon. While he is happy for Charlton to be recieving their money, he realises that if and when the Charlton bubble bursts, these fans will quickly disapear, and so has little time for them, and even admitted he had more time for Palarse fans who at least stick with their team.

I would also like to offer my thanks to him, as he is a CPST supporter.

I know of at least two ex-Palace fans who now support Charlton. I'll tell more later.

Osin,

sorry to come accross as pedantic but these two so called 'fans' were never REAL fans if they swopped their allegiance.

Well, we lost. Never mind. They just about squeaked past our youth team despite a battling performance.

What makes me really laugh, though, is their totally misguided belief in the ability of their team.

Man City definitely looked a better bet to stay up, if they get up.

Isn't it ridiculous that now that they've had a successful season it's "the strongest First Division ever" and "the greatest Charlton team ever" and they even have the arrogance to start singing "we'll never play you again".

Just who are they kidding?

I thought that their strike-force looked inept and there is no way they'll do anything in the Premier League.

They allegedly have 14 million to spend next season. Yeah right. Even if they did, a fair bit must have already been given over to Saturday's match officials.

They may never play us again but it won't have anything to do with which league we're in.

If any scum bag, half witted Charlton are going to read this perhaps you could do us the service of apologizing for booing whilst a Trust fund raising statement was being read out.

Despite not being particularly fond of CAFC I always felt a certain kinship with them through financial difficulties but not now. Never now.

You are in short the lowest of the low, a carbunkle on the puss filled arsehole of the s**t filled carvan park that you reside in.

James, i'm sure you find it really hard to understand why the Charlton fans are not as generous as you were when Charlton were in financial trouble. I mean your act of kindness and the generousity we received from Ron Noades went beyond that expected of normal human beings. You trulely were saints to us back then, Thank you soooo much for letting us play on you rhallowed turf and sharing your fanatstic shed at such a reasonable price. (I even heard rumours that Ron wanted us to play there for nothing but our board insisted on giving you some rent).

I can only apologise for our fans reaction to your plea for help on Saturday, i cannot understand it at all !

Smell the coffee fella !

Floyd mate this is not a question of what faceless owners and money men do. I am talking about those of us who puport to be fans. I for one would not wish any club (bar Man U and Chelsea) go under as after all we love this game first and foremost. My point is that you more than anyone know the old addage of 'there but for the graco of God go I' has a real meaning.
I supported your campaign to go back to Valley and went to Brighton when they were in trouble.
How would you have felt if I had defaced your Council petitions.
Don't tell me to wake up and smell the coffee when you guys can't even sniff it for the overwhelming stench of crap and contradiction.
Thank you none the less for your own personal apology

I had no problem before I went to that game but by the end of it I couldn't help myself but beat some twat (on a bus going into Croydon!) around the head with my fanzine.

I still don't give a crap about them, but do now aknowledge that they are complete scum. As I think was pointed out by the Holmesdale on Saturday.

Why is it that all charlton fans blame US the Palace fans for Noades' actions in the late 80's towards charlton? He has screwed our club over as well. He presently makes money from Palace and owns the frehold of the ground. Many Palace fans are far from fans of this man, although preversley many, myslelf included would gladly see him return as he is possibley our only hope.

Ignoring the banter for a moment, I have a serious question for you Charlton fans out there. Much of your hatred of Palace seems to be a direct result of the Selhurst ground-share some 10 years ago - why? What did Palace do that so antagonised you? Surely it was the actions of your previous owners that meant you had to leave the Valley.

My recollection of Palace-Charlton encounters in the late-70's is of a fairly hot terrrace atmosphere, but nowhere near the intensity of a match against Brighton or even Millwall. So what I'd like to know is what happended in Charlton's Selhurst era that has led to your current view of all things Palace.

Sensible answers only, please.

To paraphase:-

Sunleys Builders,(bought Charlton from a disintersted Mike Glikstein) were Palace fans out of Bromley, all agents of Ron Noades. They bought us and delivered us to your cesspit under the impression they could pick up the Valley and cash in on its real estate value. The club and fans were of no importance, as they wanted to asset strip us of our best players for Palaces benefit once we were declared bankrupt. Well, the old ******* died (John Sunley), Charlton got promoted against all odds and, contrary to popular Palace myth, pulled in some decent crowds - 28,000 against Liverpool if I remember rightly. Incidentally, bigger than Palaces best of that season.Anyone disputes it and I'll be bringing in me programmes tomorrow! Bit like Wimbledon now, attract bigger crowds because of the Opposition.

Greenwich Council (Gawd Bless em) put the Kybosh on any commercial redevelopment of the Valley which quickly dampened Sunleys interest in us. Sunley abruptly sold us to the present owners.

It was the new owners that quickly realised how much we're being ripped off at Selhurst and came to the conclusion that maybe it would be a good idea to move back to the Valley, which they'd managed to buy from Glikstein who was more than happy to sell as there wern't no real money to be made.

None of our then board were particularly flush and many years went by before we could move home. During that time we continually were shafted in a very unequal partnership by Noades and your club.Your fans wallowed in our plight - out fans organised and got to work, the rest is glorious history.

For those of you who were in the Cherry Tree on Saturday, I particularly enjoyed the Addick who stood on the bar and led the "Stand Up if you Hate Palace" song. I love the way you all looked at the floor and walls - not one word of defiance.

A bit like your Trust Appeal - Spineless.

To paraphase:- (How long did it take you to find this word in the Dictionary?)

For those of you who were in the Cherry Tree on Saturday, I particularly enjoyed the Addick (must be a BHA supporter?)who stood on the bar and led the "Stand Up if you Hate Palace" song. I love the way you all(a little strong here, we all could not get into one pub like your lot?) looked at the floor and walls - not one word of defiance.

A bit like your Trust Appeal - Spineless.

Now this has to be a joke, pray tell how much scrap did you lot give to save your club DURING their problem days?

I wish you well for next season we will still be here awaiting your return (2001/2002) and then see how many supporters you bring to your next visit to Selhurst???

I think it's a bit crap for anyone to say your campaign is spineless. Okay, it may be a good ruse during a game, just to wind you up, but I cannot believe Charlton really mean it. The problem is that many people, even when the darkest days dawn, really do not believe that the club will fold, at Brighton many felt the same until the truth really did dawn and we fought our little hearts out, and we will always be grateful to everyone who helped us - especially the Charlton fans who were magnificent in their support. Why don't you get a Fans United day going? The publicity is great and the message gets across - they'll be plenty of Albion fans there I'm sure - and no doubt Charlton.

Good luck.

I really, really wish that you were right Dangerous but I'm afraid it wouldn't work out like that.

Despite the fact that it's Millwall who famously sing "no one likes us, we don't care" it is my own belief that Palace are quite possibly the most-loathed team in the league. Every club has a set of fans that hates them, but not many clubs appear to be hated by virtually every set of fans.

Call it paranoia if you like (look it up, Charlton fans) or our "siege mentality" but whereas the Charltons, Watfords, Barnsleys and Bradford of this world are regarded with rose-tinted spectacles by most people for trying so hard and just failing to be good enough, it seems to have brought nothing but derision on us.

The other thing about our situation is that it was brought upon ourselves far more than your case or that of Charlton.

I think we'll probably not take up your idea of a Fans United day - it would be heartbreaking for us to be the only one's there.

Thanks for your words of support though.

Bowyers Spliff- As you said it was Ron Noades that most Charlton fans claim charged you over the odds to play at Selhurst. But wouldn't you have preferred this to us letting you die by not letting you squat? Can't your lot see that it was not the Palace fans that said "Let's drain the gypo's for everything they're worth" it was Ron Noades. So if anything hate Ron Noades, but that's not sufficient enough to have hatred for Palace, especially as Ron Noades (at the time of writing http://cpfc-bbs.com/ubb/wink.gif ) is not at the club at the moment.

Another point is that only 4,000-5,000 people turned up to see you play at Selhurst Park, shouldn't it only be this amount of people that hate Palace, as the others probably didn't even support Charlton then?

Methinks it is just a poor excuse at trying to find yourselves some rivals. You're too scared to hate Millwall and no-one could be bothered with Wimbledon s your only option was Palace.

31-03-2000, 05:13 AM
Gooders,

Surely not. Yes, it did use to make me laugh that so many people did dislike you, although I was jealous in a way! For it is meant to be ONLY US who hated you! But, I'm sure no one really wants you to go under. You gotta believe it when Brighton fans say they don't, and let's face it, if we hope for you to survive then well, that says a lot!

I'm not sure if your predicament is that different to ours, it's to do with Chairman and their power to make or break clubs which are followed by countless thousands of people. People for whom the club means so much! We know how much you all care for club, whenever you scored against us for instance!

Anyway, again good luck....
