Charlton line-up as follows:

1 Anton Niemi (Hearts)
2 Danny Griffin (St Johnston)
3 Nigel Winterburn (Arsenal)
4 Michael Duberry (Leeds)
5 Gary Rowett (Birmingscum)
6 Ricardo Fuller (Jamaican Beach FC)
7 Jonaton Johansson (Glasgow Rangers)
8 Paolo Vernazza (Arsenal)
9 Giles De Bilde (Sheff Wed)
10 Eidur Gudjohnson (Bolton)
11 Alan Thompson (Aston Villa)

12 David Johnson (Ipswich)
13 Matt Holland (Ipswich)
14 James Scowcroft (Ipswich)
15 Dean Holdsworth (Bolton)
16 Phil Babb (From a team that are sorry they signed him in the first place)

and the list goes on and on and on.
Obviously the ipswich lads only make the bench cos we ain't got a hope in hell of signing one of them jokers now.

Crystal Palarse line up:
1 Digby
2 Austin
3 Cole
4 Linighan
5
6
7
8 Fullerton
9
10
11

Errmmm......
There you go, because of the administration thingymebob i've been kind and let you play some players undergoing contract negotiations as that is as good as a new signing for you boys.

Thanks for letting us have Cole. Pity Arsenal won't http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Unfortunately RM you have forgotten about the lads who come through the youth system - you know, the thing that you have to get new players for the club that doesn't involve paying shedloads of money for mercenaries.

Next year's line up should be :

1. Digby/Gregg
2. Austin
3. Linighan
4. Fan
5. Woozley
6. Carlisle
7. Mullins
8. Thomson
9. Rodger
10. Morrison
11. McKenzie

Not too bad a team and not too far from the one used for most of last season. At home they took points off 2 of the promoted sides and only lost to a late scrambled goal against the other one (as well as being unlucky in all three away fixtures). Perhaps it's a better team than you think. Of course, it may be as bad as you think but then that leaves you with an awful thought about the coming season http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/redface.gif

Rolling ..
Seeing as the side you named does not have any of your current playing staff it is obviously wishful thinking on your part that you will sign some of those Nationwide cast offs to try and keep you in the Premiership.

Instead, Palace will stick with youth and loyalty for the comingseason, the mere bedrock of Charltons recent success.

Palarse dimwits/halfwits*(delete as appropriate),

i think you've missed the point of this thread - its all about rumours and speculation, not about current playing staff and how good your team have been this season.

The 2 teams consist of players the clubs have been linked with, not who they already have on their books - surely that's not too hard to realise, is it?

The point I'm making as a Charlton fan is that 4 or 5 summers ago I would have been worrying about who we were gonna sell for k250, whereas now all i'm worried about is who we're gonna sign for 5 mill.

isn't life great?

But you should have realised that no Palace supporter would be aware of the transfer speculation around Charlton because we don't care about them. You, on the other hand, would be aware of the Primus rumours but only because you seem to spend a lot of time on this board http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

What is the addy of the Charlton board anyway? I may take a look at the bloodbath on there at the end of next season.

isn't life great?

For now. The wheel turns. Every team in the top flight will eventually become crap for a time.

The point that I am making is that you can and go buy your £5 mill no loyalty players, pay their extortionate wages, but we have seen this all before. Strange how circumstances change.

See you back in the nationwide next year and in bigger problems than us !

Rolling: Your list is very comprehensive as far as listing two bob has been's/players not getting first team football. Just about sums up the ambition of Clownton when you are linked with Winterburn!!

Come on RM, with your current squad and the players on your list I'd be surprised if your beloved Clownton score 20 goals next season.

watching paint dry? I'll invite you down to the valley after we've built our new north stand and let you smell all the fresh paint you want.

you certainly won't be watching any paint dry at Selhurst that's for sure, i heard you guys can't even afford to redo that roof of yors on the old stand.

What does redo and yors mean???? I know you caravan dwellers don't attend school much but would have thought you could spell the easy words. Thanks for the invitation to the valley but if I wanted to have a good laugh I would buy tickets for the circus(same sort of entertainment). It is very nice of you to take an interest in our club but i'm not that interested in Clowntown athletic i'm afraid.

Gavin,
please stop being such a childish moron.

"Redo" means to do something over and over again; look it up in a dictionary if you own one you plebeian.

"Yors" is a simple typo because I couldn't be arsed to use the spell check provided at the bottom of the page for the less fortunate palarse fans (about 15,000 of them) whose parents weren't sensible enough to make sure they did their homework and got a decent education.

Before you ask, a "typo" is a spelling error of sorts.

Basing your arguments on spelling - how many more Palarse fans do I have to belittle on this BBS!!!

Oisin, Varcoe, Gooders, everyone else, surely you can do better than Gavin.

Bit of a punchy thread from you today Rolling
couple of shandys lunchtime. I thought you were Chelsea at one point all they do is insult us.

By the way keep alternative Saturdays free at the Valley just in case we have to call in the groundshare favour, maybe we can even get RN to draw up the terms.

Everything that comes around.... football is like retailing or insurance a cyclical industry. We will remember this in three years when the Addicks are in Div 2 and we pick up the FA Cup.

Cheers for the offer Roliing caravan, why not invite all of us down there and watch us destroy the "new north Stand" in front of your eyes. For God's sake, F*** off, you're a right little smug tosser, no one gives a **** about your new stand! Is it supposed to make us jealous? It doesn't matter, do all the work you want to your little stadium it's not going to affect me, I'm very happy for you if your idea of a decent atmosphere is to cram in as many NEW fans as possible.

You called so I answered Rolling. I hope you weren't implying that my spelling is crap too? It isn't.

OK, I've had a look at that list and I have to say that it's not very inspiring.

Duberry is the same player as Rufus - what would be the point in signing him? Plus, he'll probably be banged up before the season starts (or is the trial in October?)

Gudjohnson will leave Bolton but he won't join Charlton - there'll be bigger clubs in for him.

Thompson would be a good buy.

The rest of them are either no good (e.g. Holdsworth) or too old (e.g. Winterburn) or big-time charlies who don't put the effort in (e.g. de Bilde).

You'd be wasting that alleged 12 million you've got to spend on most of these saddo's.

But I wouldn't worry, if there's one thing Curbishley won't do (assuming he's still there) it's spend stupid amounts of dosh on overrated players - he's much more a bargain-basement type guy I think.

Rolling Mist

Ask and it shall be given unto you.

3 cheers for Gooders and a half decent posting - and no i wasn't implying anything about your spelling ability!

Your views on all the transfer hype are spot on with the way i see things as well.
Thompson will be good value at around or hopefully under the 2 million mark, but i think Duberry would be a good signing - London lad, never really been given the full vote of confidence from Vialli or O'Leary, and never settled in Leeds (who could?). I just hope he's got a few of those left peg belters in him like the one he scored for chelsea a while back.

And then there's the big issue about a striker - and the name near the top of my list is Matt Jansen. If he plays half as well in the premiership as he did in that final home game of the season for blackburn against man city then we're in business.
If Souness doesn't want to lose Jansen then I wouldn't mind Giles The Builder in his place from Sheff Wed.

But you're right in saying that Curbs won't break the bank early on, if at all. Some of us Charlton fans are already resigned to the fact that we'll be waiting till mid-season before we see a 'big' signing, cos by then Curbs will have a clearer picture of what he wants and needs.

05-06-2000, 10:31 PM
Rolling probably spends so much time here because its an excellent site. Full marks to you. I'm sure that not only does he get pleasure from decent responses such as Gooders, he probably gets equal pleasure from seeing someone such as Matt Hep lose it completely.

Nicebutdim, you live a 20 min walk from the Valley. I hope you don't take the piss out of ManUre fans not supporting their local side ?

And for the record, my experience of Palace fans are a group of supporters who clearly don't want to dig into their pockets to save their club. Otherwise nearly all of that 17,000 loyal band would of contributed to save you.

And yes, i know i sound like Mellor, but sadly don't look like him.

Duberry scored a "left-peg belter"? I must have missed that. He's wrapped up now in this incident that Bowyer and Woodgate were involved in. Something to do with alleged false alibi's I think. I don't think any of those 3 would be a good signing at the moment!

A colleague of mine who supports Chelsea absolutely loathed Duberry (and for once, it wasn't the usual racist thing that occurs at Chelsea) - he was always liable to make a monumental cock-up every other game apparently.

We can't agree on all of them Rolling - de Bilde just hasn't got the work ethic as far as I can see - Kinsella would be tearing his hair out over him within weeks I'm sure.

I've also seen you linked with Hartson. God Noooooooo! He's just a thug.

Jansen is the man. Hates it in Blackburn so we hear. He really is absolute class and if a decent manager got hold of him, he would definitely be England material. He'd cost a big chunk of that 12 million though.

06-06-2000, 04:42 AM
Goodness me have we discovered that rarest of all creatures, a Clowntown "fan" that can not only spell dictionary but can use one as well?

I was not surprised to see that true to the spirit of most CAFC "supporters" you have bottled out of revealing any of your details in your profile. My guess is that I probably live closer to the Valley than you (20 min walk). I have to say that I am a great admirer of CAFC as a club in terms of the hard work carried out in the community to desperately stir up some interest in the local under 12s as well as the attempts to rid the club of racists (aren't those charming chaps from Eltham, Neil Acourt & Co allegedly Charlton boys?)

However my experience of most addicks is that they are ignorant little woodlouse who will change their allegiance more readily than they will change their underwear. The clubs true colours should be green to reflect the envy of their fans towards the truly great CPFC. It amuses me that this envy becomes more intense the greater the achievements of the team, sure proof of a permanent and deserved inferiority complex.

I can only imagine that RM spends so much time on our site because he secretely wants to be one of us and can not find anyone remotely interested in CAFC to match his undoubted cutting edge wit and repartee.

Coke Addick, thanks for replying on RMs behalf, I suspect that you may be a thoroughly bloody nice bloke, but you are still just a red red robin, bob bob bobbin and wishing he could soar with eagles. Just to correct you on a couple of points:

1. Like you I despise glory boys who don't have the balls to follow their local team, unless they are winning trophies. The words "were" "you" "when" "****" and "where" somehow spring to mind. For my own part, I lived in Croydon for 30 years. Palace will always be my local team no matter where I roam. For what it's worth I would rather my 2 sons grow up to be Charlton or God forbid Millwall fans, than ManUre Arse or
(Oui H) L C, any day.

2. CPST has raised more money than any other privately funded venture, including the Valley Party (which I accept had different objectives and admittedly was a great success in bringing a minor issue to the attention of a wider and seemingly disinterested local audience). Would you and other Charlton in all honesty be prepared to part with a grand on top of season ticket etc. expenditure for the sake of your club? Knowing the ebbs and flows of your fan base, I doubt that you would raise half of what we have so far. There are also thousands more CPFC out there prepared to invest should it become absolutely necessary.

3. MELLOR OUT!! Suggest you get some serious therapy to remove any remaining shared attitude with the aesthetically challenged one. Also buy a kick Mellor out of football T shirt to prove you don't look like him

you probably do live closer to the valley than me as i'm more like a 20 min drive away as opposed to a walk.
on the other hand i probably live closer to selhurst than you.

what this proves - absolutely nothing. or is there an underlying issue here that i haven't picked up on.

errrm, what else was there. oh yeah, i spend a fair amount of time on this site granted, but i also spend a lot of time on other sites as well (don't get jealous now).
depends what mood i'm in i suppose - whether to read more and more transfer hype on charlton sites, or come on here and have some heated arguments.

actually i was having a drink in south croydon last night when i overheard this half decent quiz-type question in the pub. lets see if anyone can get it:

who missed the first penalty of the '94 world cup?

answers on a postcard.

Nicebutdim, i think your being hard on yourself mate, you don't sound very dim at all.

Although it did take you 30 years to realise that Croydon is a dump !!

As for the Where were you ? bit. I was marching from from the Valley to General Gordon Square to help save my club (Wolfie Smith eat your heart out).

You may mock our past attendances, if you groundshare with Gillingham for 5 years, you will have exactly the same problem, mark my words, as Croydon and other fellow South London dumps become more and more 'Chelseafied'.

Gavin forgot to mention the pearls of Abbey Wood, Plumstead, Thamesmead, Welling etc all of which are a stones throw of the Valley(I know I've tried) and were crawling with Chelss on Cup Final Day. These places are all south of the river and presumably qualify as a "South London dump"

Croydon aint Blackheath admittedly but I suggest it has more to offer than the vast majority of the area around SE7.

The foreign legion fan club are everywhere as you well know and I do think we should unite against the spread of this nasty little curse (maybe some form of innoculation given at the same time as their BCGs or whatever adolescents are given these days)

RM as you not only worship our BBS but also drink in our pubs why not timeshare next season? That way, you get to sit with the best fans in England that you admire so much and I get to stroll down the road to see Premier teams pissing over CAFC every fortnight.

Getting grief from the better half now, so I will leave it at that. Seriously guys, good luck for next season (my god you'll need it)
