Bloody Hell...2 Palace fans missing my posts....I must be the talk of the Holmesdale ! Sure enoug CA and me will try and liven you up again, after all, your footie is hardly stimulating ! On CA's point about the Arsenal game...I think I know what he means. In each division, there are games that you write off at the beginning of the season and realistically, anybody thinking we would get anything from Arse away was probably doing drugs. To go there and to take the lead twice and score three is an achievement. I'll put my neck on the line and doubt any other team will mirror that feat !

On the Pirde of South London debate, surely we have earnt this accolade. We are without doubt the best fooballing side in South London and probably the most well off. For a team who have been to 'Sellhurst Park' and back even the most Hate Charlton Fan must conclude that we are currently deserving of this.

On the prediction...I'll settle for a draw.

Well I for one must say that I am pleased that a nice,unoffensive little club like Charlton have managed to make it into the premiership. In this big ugly world we live in it is nice to see that some times the little people, the ordinary ones, the ones who drive the buses, work for the council, still have a chip pan and a brown tea pot on the table can support a club who manage to get into the premiership. Have to agree that Charlton have done jolly well but, without wanting to patronize you, you are only a little club in terms of real potential.

Unfortunately we have not been blessed with the greatest of Chairman ( until now hopefully ) and the fact that our 3rd position in the old First divison was not capitalised on is something that makes me spitting mad.

My only hope is that when you get relegated at the end of this season ( which I hate to say is quite likely ) that your 9-10,000 new fans do not desert you and flock over to Fulham next year.

Have to disagree that we are only a little club in terms of real potential. Unless of course you are comparing us with Moan U and not Palarse.
There is room for both of us to grow. Us in S.E. London / Kent you have similar potential in S.E.London / Surrey.
At present we have reached our current capacity but are continuing to explore other ways to meet the increased demand. We are still on an upward trend and this will continue so long as the current board can muster enough financial clout to keep the momentum going. They have a proven track record & winning formula and I know that we have little chance of making a dramatic colapse aka Palarse, in the near future.
Palarse however do not yet have that winning formula and as such, everything still remains as "future potential".
Until this situation changes and there is little sign that it will, CHARLTON ATHLETIC will remain the ONLY South London club with REAL hope of establihing themselves in the Premiership. For Plarse this is still only a DREAM.
Difference then between us at present is REALITY vs. DREAMS.

Tut Tut, another EGIRL coming on here trying to be clever and falling out of the sky, landing beak first. When we were relegated last time round we amassed some 15,000 season ticket holders, I think at the time only Man City, in the Nationwide boasted better. So please, for your own sake, do your homework and you'll omit your errors. Also Matty baby, we sold out nion 95% of our games, including selling at short notice for visiting teams who only brought 100 or so supporters, Stockport, Crewe etc.

On our dodgy attendances 20,043 or 20,012 who cares ??? the fact is we "SELL OUT" every home game, you can't turn up at the Valley anymore and expect to buy a spare seat - THERE AREN'T ANY. At Palarse you can take your pick from any one of about 8,000 if you want to pay, or alternatively can you get a couple of the spare "freebies" off a friend.
Also you tried to differentiate between Charlton's past success and the "modern game". Where exactly do you draw the line ?? I think that you'll find we have spent more seasons in the top flight than Palarse and also have won some real silverware. The point is we have the upper hand at the minute, much to the displeasure of Anti and his like, who continually rant on about Palarse being this hugely inflated club that at present they are not. For now it is Charlton supporters who can rightly be proud that their club is by far and away the best there is, at least around our neck of the woods.

Fair play to you Top Eagle ! Supporters like you do your club proud ! Also, said it before, but there is no denying that for a club to sell 10,000 in your predicament is a good achievement. I also agree that this argument is old hat, so I'll do my utmost to play no further part in it.

I may be a little out of touch with Charlton (not being a supporter) but find it hard to believe that all of your season ticket holders can make all the games making it a total capacity crowd every game. That was the point I was making.

As for Palace being over inflated, are you sure?? Palace fans can at last look forward to a brighter future. We have had a few good years through the late eighties and early nineties and some really dismal times recently. Although not winning the FA cup, which I take it is the silverware you are talking about you won in 1947 (I am not sure of that date so dont quote me) we finished 3rd in the top flight only not to get into europe because of Liverpools late re-instatement after the Heisel incident, we also got to an FA cup final to be beaten in the replay by a single goal. Hardly a small club would and could do that in successive years.

Our chairman at the time (as I am told) made comments about black players to the media and considering a lot of our players were black was a stupid thing to do. Not suprisingly we then saw transfer requests being submitted and hence the team of the 80/90's was no more.

We underachieved then and have done so since, Palace have the potential to get things moving now so dont sit there in an ivory tower as the foundations could crumble around you and send you crashing down. It is a lot harder to put right a second time around.

Enjoy your "success" at the moment but dont try and take the p!ss out of Palace because what goes around comes around, as I am told Palace fans took the p!ss out of you going through hard times and look what happened.

I agree that not all season ticket holders can turn up every game, so we are then a few short. Add back a few who pass them onto other fans who can not get into the Valley for love nor money and we are still left a few short. But then there are the kids who get in under their parents legs and the adults who use a scam whereby a season ticket holder can obtain a duplicate ticket for a friend by telling the box office that they had forgotton their book. Hey presto !! 2 tickets but only 1 seat.
So the actual crowd could be a little lower or even a little higher than 20,043 - my point is why squabble over the last two digits after all Charlton have a right to declare a"SOLD OUT" attendance, hence 20,043 - after all how would it look if the correct number of those admitted through the gate were declared, only to find out that we had 20,067 in a stadium with a lower capacity ??

Stoke Away tomorrow night. In all honesty, although you never want your team to lose at any level, i don't care in the slightest how we get on. Think its going to be a mainly reserve side we put out anyway. With a long trip up to Newcastle on Friday, Curbs would be sensible resting the lot of them. Stoke are no mug team and will be up for it against a premier team, regardless of the side we put out.

This cup to me is only worth taking seriously if your still in it at the quarter finals.

I'm sure we did play you in this cup a few years ago. Remember Leaburn mugging Ninja Tortoise by the Arthur and then beating Martyn, but i think we still lost. Remember that game well actually because after a little bit of disorder, a policeman's helmut was knocked off, and then thrown around terrace like an inflatable with the copper running round in circles trying to catch it. Priceless.

Firstly, must say this thread started well and has gone back to the old chestnut of attendances, which is incredibly boring.

Lets put it to bed once and for all.

Coke and Spanish, agree that your ground sells out every home game. However find it hard to believe that exactly the same amount turns up every time. Season ticket holders afterall can not necessarily always turn up. Would be suprised if they sell the empty seats on matchday.

I think that is the reason for Palace going on about it. Not a bad thing, but it looks a bit dodgy you have to agree.

As for Palace and the fact that Charlton say we give out freebies and we dont have a lot of support. I think when we all use the word "potential" we do not think of what it really means i.e. our new chairman does not necessarily know football inside out but he has a sound business brain, he realises that by giving out free tickets he will receive more revenue on matchday and you never know may get a few more supporters into the bargain. Its business thats all, he wants the club to support itself.

I think the other argument that we both think we are bigger comes down to this, you got your season tickets holders after being in the prem and then getting relegated. We have our 10000 from being on the brink of extinction without the promise of attractive premier football to look forward to this season or next (most probably)so all us think we are bigger because of this. Whereas you think you are bigger because you have more now in a purple patch of your history.

Its a no win argument so why bother. Palace have done more than Charlton in the modern game, but Charlton are now in premier and have a chance to turn that around, I for one want Palace back bigger and better than before and firmly believe that we have the right sort or ruthless leader in SJ that will make this happen.

My ideal would be season 2002/2003 that Palace finish 1st in the prem, charlton finish 2nd, west ham, arsenal and spurs finish 3/4/5 (in any order), chelsea go and play on the continent and dump all of their remaining english fans and Brighton get relegated to the conference and get hammered every game there to!!!!

I want all London clubs (except Chelsea and Millwall) to do well against the scum of the north thats all, local rivalry is good but dont lose sight of the fact that we should all be striving to beat those pidgeon breeding b@stards of the north!!!!

What is there to say, nothing at the moment. We have had a poor run but our condition is not yet terminal, as for the goals comment, that is not the case really we have a lot of players more than capable it is just their application at the moment.

We have to take all the abuse at the moment so I guess you lot can have a field day.

One thing I will say is, remember all the times you Charlton boys have said "palace fans took the piss when we were in trouble" my point is gain some respect from us by not doing it and I am sure the same will happen when you are in trouble later on in the season. If not thats fine, but remember you cant use that little moan anymore.

I can only speak for myself, i've been going since 83, but i'm sure judging by their posts, No1 and Spanish are of equally long standing. Which is why we are getting so much pleasure, not just from our own success, but from your lack of it.
