And do I think Crystal Palace will stay up ? No.
Perhaps when I read about them beating the Fulham, Blackburn & Watford's of the Nationwide League will I give them any chance but whilst they are being continually lablelled 'Plucky' then I think they are heading down. Truth is that to survive in the first division you need to get results against the better teams and Crystal Palace seem able to only beat the other clubs in terminal crisis rather than getting stuck into the Nationwide prima-donnas.

Tell me my friend, have you ever contributed anything worthwhile in your life ? You sound line one sad, bitter, jealous geek to me, who wants to play Monopoly but only if he can have Park Lane & Mayfair. Grow up Nigel.

Oisin, you organise this site don't you, could you open up a site called Cresh, that way the likes of Pyscho can play with all the soft toys and slide into the ball park.

Lets just look at our limited potential.

In the relegation zone and we pull in over 15,000 paying punters.

Now what do you think your crowds would be in similar circumstances ?

And why do I get a sense of deja-vu when I read this thread ? http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think you'll find to survive, it is the other teams that are in relegation trouble that we need to beat.

I realise that with your 'plucky' description you are trying to have another pop, but no offence taken. Palace will survive this year, and I'm fairly optimistic that next year we will be promoted, do you honestly think that you will still be in the premier to meet us? I honestly hope so, but I'm not as optimistic.

I thought this point had died of death. Palace have had a good turnout, who cares. You cannot gauge Charltons crowd unless of course you are referring to the dark Selhurst Park Days ! Credit where credit is due, you get good crowds, and we play better football that you !

WELL SPOTTED Mat ov !!!!!
but when I post it, Osheen (that's how you pronounce it I think) calls it "MOUTH" but when you originally posted a similar rhetorical thread it was considered reasonable comment.
It's for debate not childish name calling and "mouth" comments, right ?

My "limited potential" was directed at your chances of any success in the Nationwide this season or do you see staying up as an achievement for your little club ? your crowds have been very impressive, even if they are full of non paying customers !!!!

'We hate Charlton. Except when we don't. We hate Brighton, or at least my great Grandad did. But we've only hated them since 1975, so work that one out. We hate Millwall more than Chelsea, on Tuesdays. We hate Man United, cos they all live in Norwood Junction.'

For a little club with limited resources,we are very good at being unpopular.
We get postings on here from followers of brighton, charlton, millwall, fulham, chelsea and even gillingham chip in,to add to this we know that portsmouth and wolves dislike us too!
Which for a club that is small and crap as you people like to keep telling us,why so much emotion and feeling directed at us?

remember love and hate are the closest of emotions!!

You seem to forget in the last 2 years we have beem knocked from pillar to post, nearly lost our football status, hardly had a squad of players to pick from but yet we still managed to finish in a very respectable 15th whilst giving you 2 tough matches on the way.
I would say once we've steadied the ship you'd better watch out because we will be back, i say in 2-3 seasons time, compare then and i bet you any money we'll be in a higher league position than you in whatever league.
As a matter of fact we won't be in the same league, you'll be in the Nationwide and Palace will be in the Premier.

Coke and No1 as has been explained earlier this BBS is populated be Palace fans young and old. It would appear that the younger fans do have a dislike for Charlton, but the older fans have a real rivalry for Brighton.

As one of the older fans my only interest in Charlton is they are another london team, who in general I like to see do well.

But I must admit you are beginning to annoy.

Why do all Charlton fans get such great pleasure out of saying that we are a small club? Palace have always been much bigger and always will be. Deep down every Charlton fan knows this. This is why. For years we've looked down on charlton, we've hardly recognised they exist. They can try and take the mick calling us 'plucky Palace' but this phrase is one that has always been used for Charlton and only suits them. That harmless little club from the Thames eastury. Charlton fans come on this site week after week repaeting the same tired jokes at our expense. Yet they still come on here, even though they are apparently a much 'bigger fish' now. The fact is though that it is still the same one sided pathetic little hatred it always has been. Most Eagles fans continue to ignore them (myself included, although the 12 year old who started this thread needs educating so I'm responsing). Just look at the facts 16,000 average and we've been in the bottom three nearly all season. Look at other clubs from the London area Watford, QPR, Fulham the squatters our support puts all these to shame. Lets face it would Charlton get these kind of gates in the same circumstances? They'd be lucky to get over 10,000. I challenge any Charlton fan to come and say otherwise...If any do they are either lieing or on hulocogenic drugs! But charlton fans you keep enjoying your fantasy that you are a bigger club than us. Go on get all that bitterness out of your system.....but we aren't interested.

Nice one fieldy, I for one would like to let our stinking neighbours know what we think of them, sh*ts that they are.

Rivalry is divided severely by age at Palace at the moment, check out the squad/player profiles at www.cpifc.co.uk, (http://www.cpifc.co.uk,) there is a 'who do you hate most' question (only some of the links work so be patient) and you'll find more haters of Charlton than BHA by a mile. As you'd expect, the players in the team are mostly younger than 23.

LP
09-11-2000, 10:54 PM
I know some of our fans hate Charlton etc.but when Palace play Charlton the atmosphere amongst the majority Palace fans is one of indifferance, on the whole. We obviously want to win the game and shut their silly little fans up and put the clowns in their place for another season but I feel most Eagles find it hard to really get that worked up about this game.

If we played Brighton at Selhurst even in the Worthless cup the place would be buzzing. It would be a true derby occassion with two sets of fans who absolutely hate each other. Both sets of fans would create an atmosphere that the little anoraks from Greenwich could only dream of. This is because it is our traditonal derby game.

The Palace/Charlton situation was best somed up by a mate of mine who lived in Brum for a while. Up there Coventry fans really hate Villa, it is their game of the season, but to Villa supporters Coventry are an irrelevance. Despite the fact that they may have played Coventry far more than birmingham city in recnet seasons, the blues will always be their rivals. Does anyone notice any similarities here. Although Coventry do always take loads to Villa which is one difference I suppose but they're you go.

It's natural that younger fans will dislike clownton. I suppose it's the closest we've had to a derby in recent years. Since they turned us over home and away last season I can understand that some resent them. But trust me when we do play the seaweed again any thoughts of clownton will quickly evaparate.

10-11-2000, 11:55 AM
LP, you seem to have what many would describe as selective memory, meaning that you remember what is convenient, such as low crowds, gypsy tendancies, and forget what is not so convenient, such as 50 plus response threads, topic hatred towards Charlton. Not may I add on the away fans forum. As for me, I couldn't care less who you chose to hate, I don't hate Palace, I just love supporting the current best team in South London. Continue your 'local' rivalry with BHA and enjoy your higher position while you can. Soon it'll be you who trapes in their wake !

Spanish,
it strikes me that your reply to LP's post is more than a little up tight, whats the matter does the truth hurt!?
The fact that 50 people post saying they hate charlton, still doesnt mean that LP's point is not correct.
Its interesting that there are probably more posts on here from charlton fans than brighton is that because charlton feel they are more likely to be playing us soon, where as the fools from the coast no it'll be years for them.
Either way the game that really matters is the seaweed,so why dont u try and start a rivalry with west ham for a season!
Anyway goodluck for the rest of the season something tells me your going to need it!

No.2, seems that the following question has been asked by you quite a few times on this thread:

Don't you have ambition to better your neighbours that are puting your pitiful little club in the shade. It would bother me IF the shoe were on the other foot. As a true football fan, I always want to have one over on our neighbours, now why on earth wouldn't you ????
jealous or passionless about your club - which is it ????

What about when you were in the bottom half of div 1, did you go to bed thinking "I hope we start winning and move up the table, then one day will overtake our neighbours who are by far a better club than us", nobody thinks like that at Palace.

Now I am saying this as a Palace fan, so try not to take it to heart, and try and get your head round it. Palace fans believe that we are the bigger club and SHOULD be in the higher position, this is not at the moment the way things are, but we see it as a short term thing, Hope does not come into it, we see you and always will see you as a poor relation.

As for passionless, I think most of the guys on here were involved in the trust, hold season tickets and love the club. We have had praise for our support from all over England, so passionless is not something you can associate with Palace fans. I think they are just passionless about the "rivalry" between our clubs, which in truth there is not a lot of, and I think that most of the "hate" comes from your side by winding people up on here with stupid comments.

Pitiful little club, now I think if you look at the club with the most money, I think yours is the pitiful one. You'll be borrowing soon, if your figures are correct that you are in the black to the measley figure of £4.5m.

Still I hope you stay up, no I really do, thrashing you in the premiership in front of all the cameras will shut you and your kind up for a long long time.

Can't agree entirely LP, there was plenty of hatred at SP last time. I believe we are in a transition period because of a combination of not playing BHA for years and Charltons fluke uprising. If it continues like this for another 10 years then BHA will be a distant memory, a few nasty derbies with the clowns will make a lot of difference - just as it would if BHA came back at us.

10-11-2000, 02:47 PM
They way things look Anti you won't be playing either of us for a few years, so you will have to try and instigate a new rivalry, which seems to be your aim in life.

How about Millwall ?? Your traditional rivals.

For some reason, i can't see you being as forceful in you attacks on them.

Much safer to give it the large one to a nice family club like Charlton, isn't it ???
