View Full Version : Where did it all turn sh*te?

Ok, HISTORICALLY Palace is a bigger club than Charlton.

charlton f*cked it up big time in the 80s and came closer to going out of business than you ever will. Look where we are now with our "little crowds"

Look where you are now! After so many years of being "the biggest club in South London" now you've gone and f*cked up!

Good luck against Brighton next year. Maybe i'll come and see you play Crawley Town the year after.

Oh by the way, I forgot to thank you for Matt Svensson's winner against Middlesbrough last week. Not bad for our 6th Choice striker.

Charming and well-constructed post, with superb syntax and clarity of thought.

You are a fine example of a typical Athletic supporter.

Keep up the good work madam.

I can tell you exactly where it all went wrong. November 97, the injury to Lombardo and the signing of Padovano. Downhill ever since.

Wouldn't be so cocky Charlton fans, things can go wrong very quickly. It can't get much worse for us whereas you have quite a long fall ahead of you.

Enjoy this moment Addicked because history has a habit of repeating itself. Therefore it shouldnt be too long before your lovely little club goes tits up & once again we regain our place as South London's best team.In all honesty i wouldnt mind if you stayed in the Premiership because we will never be able to compare our clubs unless we play in the same division. That said ,can you tell me the last time Charlton had 16'000 at home to Grimsby when you were not in the top half of division 1???

The reason your little club is now going through a limited period of success is due entirely to Palace bailing you out by allowing you to carrying on playing what you used to quaintly refer to as football.

I don't remember your limited fan base attempting any sort of rescue bid, in fact how many of them caused be arsed to travel to Selhurst to watch. If the truth be known of course I don't suppose they had the intellect to find their way to the ground.

Now, of course, all those supporters have parked their caravans and jumped on the premiership bandwagon.

You've only got to look at Wimbledon to se what your fans will do on your way down.

I doubt that they are limitedly succesful. They just lost to Aston Villa, and they scored through an own goal!! Of course, they should have had a penalty (bollox!!), and their away support showed everyone up (bollox once again!!). Look at MOTD, and the small support they took up there! We took 2000 to WALSALL! FECKING WALSALL, and you can't even take 2000 to ASTON VILLA!

You obviously don't remember much then. How about the Valley Party that stood in the local elections and got a few councillors elected, or the Valley clear up when hundreds of our fans, me included, turned up at the overgrown Valley and cleared it within a day. And at about 3 days notice as well. What about the players that the fans donations bought?

Oh yeah, you let us play at Selhurst. Well thankyou for ripping us off and nicking our players instead of rent once or twice. At least you're still making use of the rent from Wimbledon then. Hang on, you are the only club in the top divisions that get extra revenue in the form of rent in you are (at least were) in crisis!

With regards to our away following. Its not great in numbers but we returned 500 tickets to Villa to be sold on the day (which they probably weren't) out of 2,900 so we had at least 2,400 there.

Any questions?

Rent from Wimbleedon? I don't think so.Who owns the ground then eh?

(Exactly)

My you have no knowledge of history, do you.

Charlton were, relatively, huge, up to the 50's. It's all been downhill since then, with the odd, temporary, upward blip since then.

See you at Selhurst next season!

Please get your facts right A dickhead.
The rent Wimbledon pay is paid to Ron Noades, not to Crystal Palace Football Club.
Palace do not own Selhurst Park anymore.
As you may well be aware, Ron Noades sold Crystal Palace a couple of years ago.

I can't wait to see sad old Charlton take on the mighty Leicester at Filbert Street.....fancy your chances of beating them 3-0....mmmmm, thought not!!

addickted-speaking personally as an ex resident of that slum called Woolwich I can remember it took you about 4 years to form the Valley Party, what did you do in the 4 or so years leading up to that? Oh yeah, not get on the football specials laid on at Woolwich Arsenal to take you to our gaff. Also weren't you paying only £200k pa rent? Even in the mid to late 80s that amount wasn't exactly a huge amount. Some of your fans suffer from paranoid delusions and have distorted the history.
As for away fans, you took 200 fans to the play off final at Leeds Utd, so I'd tone it down about your big and obviously not fickle at all away support.

Just to put it into perspective I believe that the clown c*nts now run an away season ticket scheme.

Taking the stage, would you please welcome for one night only.......Charlton's fickle support!!

Same as I can't see us losing to Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Sheffield United, Portsmouth or GRIMSBY TOWN at the Valley.

It's only one result Gladys, one result. Now go and have a good look at the League tables.......mmmmm, thought not !!!!!

Sorry Anti, please explain your point as its completely lost on me. Due to the scarcity of tickets in the prem for away games, an away season ticket enables you to go to every away game. So those 300 people you are calling fickle, attend every single game, home and away. How is that fickle ?

Away season tickets are common with virtually every premiership club.

One more point that i picked up on this thread. Its crazy but sadly true. Brentford effectively receive rent from two clubs a league higher than them, yet neither share brentford's ground.

How the hell is that allowed ??

You should do a bit of investigating before you post messages like this. The comeback always makes you look a little silly.

Because if you did your homework, you would know that we too took 2000 to Walsall last season, and that it was midweek, and live on TV as well.

Anti has obviously lost touch with the Premiership, but then again so have Crystal Palace.

I think wimbledon would take 2000 to Walsall if they were top of the league, but how many would you have taken when you were sh*t???, you struggled to bring 2000 to selhurst for the away match you short-memoried fish like parasites!!!

NO 1 Did you per-chance get your day care nurse to read you the papers today 3mill in the red I think it said, how does it go "from little acorns" your back on the slippery slope of oblivion (bit strong that bit), but we can hope !!!!!!!

07-11-2000, 10:36 PM
£3 mil in the red? Yes.

A calculated risk. Most people at Charlton *(inc. directors, staff and fans) knew that we would go in the red a little last year due to temporary stay in Div 1 receiving less TV money. Will be back in the Black this time next year so don't worry yourselves about it.

Cheers

Adickhead, agree with your sentiments, but I think you may be hard pushed to get back in the black this year. Reason for this is, you receive a huge parachute payment for the first season back in the 1st division, nearly as much as being in the prem itself. You have also invested quite a lot in new players (and wages) so I think you may be looking for another season in the prem to get back over zero.

I may be wrong.

Addicked, hundreds of your fans didn't turn up to clear the ground, a large portion were from other clubs, I was one of them because my Mum supported Charlton as a girl. I've said before and will say again, fans from other clubs probably did more than your own fans to bail you out!

09-11-2000, 10:36 PM
Erm....ok Dutch.

So there were not hundreds of Charlton fans at the Valley clearup? Must of been hundreds of glory-hunters in that case because they all seemed pretty dedicated to me.

thank you for your help that day, i'm sure you did your mother proud and what a conscientious person you are!

Not sure what your point is really, unless its "you've got no "real" fans - i.e. not missed a game since they were 3 years old"?

Anyway, you'll have to excuse me as i'm off to help Oxford Utd build their new ground which keeps stalling. My great aunt supports them - well she saw a couple of games when they were in div 1 anyway. Ta ta!

Go on the Charlton, A good manager in Curbishley who was a great player for Brighton, A long with my old scool mate John Robinson, Think yourselves lucky Charlton fans, your doing well and going in the right direction, unlike the croydon scum, trying to live in past glories, even though they never had any. They have always been nothing they will always be nothing, look forward to next season when we can resume our annual boxing day stuffing, Good luck Charlton you're to good to be relegated unlike the toilet pretenders down the road.

Sorry for the late reply, but my point is ADDICKED, that the dedicated Charlton "support" is all in your head, but then I suppose something has to be.
Your great Aunt is obviously as good at support as you lot are!
