I have just bought Paul Oakenfolds new album, Bunkka, and I think it must be the best album I have heard for over 2 years. It is a complete shift from his usual dance album format, and is his first dip into the music world as an artist.

Has a great mixture of styles, and types of music, from rap, to anthem to funk and pop, and includes loads of top vocals from Jane’s Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell and Shifty Shellshock of Los Angeles rock-rap band Crazy Town to Tricky, Nelly Furtado and NWA founder Ice Cube.

There are also contributions from Asher D of So Solid Crew and Grant Lee Philips, founder of 90’s LA rock band, Grant Lee Buffalo, and most surprisingly Hunter S. Thompson, author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Has anybody else heard this album, and if so what do they think?

If you havent bought it, rush out to your local Record/CD and buy it. It is superb! Oh and while Im at it, give The Karma Collection, Sunrise a go too.
:p

I love the single with Crazy Town 'Starry Eyed Surprise'. Must get the album soon.

Yeah that is quality! You can get the album in LP record format too, from Juno for a reasonable price if you want to mix any of the tracks.

Southern Sun is a nice chilled tune too.

It is not with Crazy Town, rather their rather talented rapper, Shifty Shellshock. This is probably my favourite track

Yeah might well be a 7 inch version. How was it different?

Just to let you know that I got the LP record version of the album today and it has some great alternative mixes on it.

Here is what is has:

1. Southern Sun (Gabriel and Dresden Remix)
2. Hypnotised (Bunkka Mix)
3. Time of Your Life
4. Ready Steady Go (Layo & Bushwacka Mix)
5. Starry Eyed Surprise
6. Motion (The Dub)
7. Get Em Up
8. Ready Steady Go (PMT Remix)
9. Starry Eyed Surprise (Josh Wink's Re-Interpretation)

So, if you've got record plaer/decks and CD player then Id get both LP and CD. They are quite different

Not bad album at all but it just doesnt touch his legendary Goa Mix from 1994 - still listen to that now after a smoke

Other great albums to spin your cat to:

Chicane - Far From the Maddening Croed
Chicane - Behind the Sun
Way out West - Blue
Way out West - Intensify
Leftfield - Leftism

Yes, I have Chicane FFTMC on Vinyl which is great, but not Behind the sun. Will try and hunt that down. AAlso was wondering about Intensify. What style is this album?

Love the cat photo. Wonder if that cat can scratch well? :o

Way out West albums are the brainchild of dj Nick Warren (Cream fame) - you will have heard their music before - lyrics such as: The Moon & the stars are the gifts he gave... & madness, power, dominationnnnn - just get them both - intensify is the better album :D

Okay, sounds good. A tip for you, get Deep Dish, Global Underground 21. The first cd is masterful!

Danny Tenaglia Global Undeground is good - not quite my taste in house but still, very good.

Some of the more tribal tunes a spot on.

I must have gotten old or something.

I thought their Tenaglia CD was rougher than a dog's árse.

Really? thats surprising. I thought it was a great mix, especially Side one, but then Im a big fan of the Deep Dish Bros.

Their Renaissance album was good too.

The Goa Mix by Paul Oakenfold still rules as the best in my opinion :p

Is that the one from '94? Any clues as to where I can get a copy?

To tell you the truth, I only really listen to the first 5 tunes on each CD, the rest is a bit heavy for me.

Mixing wasn't the best I've heard out of him but the loops are good and tune slection from the early parts are nice.
