Whats your number one of the year so far.

Mine, by more chalk than the white cliffs of Dover could possibly muster, has to be:

Boards of Canada - Geodaddi

It is hard to describe how good this album is. One of the best "electronica" albums of all time.

Bought that Roksopp album the other day. Not bad. Not shabby at all.

Its not bad, slides dangerously towards eurodance on two tracks.

Tracks 2, 3, 6 and 7 are the best.

Goegaddi is very very good. Really grew on me after a few listens.

Quite enjoying Blak Twang at the moment too.

Probably Weezer's Maladroit album, although the Chili Peppers and Primal Scream albums are also up there.

I haven't bought many not being a fan of Albums as I find very few bands who I like more than a couple of songs. To mention a few I have bought Parachutes (old) verdict:over rated, Mora Jones album which dependant on mood is very good, Travis album- poor, HEathen Chemistry -first half good second half lacks, Standing on the shoulder of Giants-Terrible with Go Let it out being only real good song (well old but bought it today £4), Natalie Imbruglia Album-why I bought it UI do not know! Poor

Fave Albums HEATHEN CHEMISTRY and an oldie I have tarted listening to again-JAGGED LITTLE PILL Alanis Morrisette.

The Vines - not best debut album ever like the execrable NME said, but still a damned fine album.

Or

The Reindeer Section - Son of Evil Reindeer.

Heard the new Coldplay album a few weeks ago and it's just as dreary as the debut album, imho. Although I guess people like that sort of thing.

So far I think Hard Candy by Counting Crows but I think that will change next week when 'Songs For The Deaf' by Queens of the Stone Age is released.

Define "better" please Mong. If it means louder, more raw and punchy, then that could mean I'd like it less.

The guy who got me into Hi-fi serious said that he wasn't sure I'd like their earlier albums?

I am in the process of buying the Flaming Lips album. It is the only thing which i feel could come close to toppling Boards of Canada.

An outside contender is Storytelling by Belle and Sebastian

The Royksopp album is a winner but the last two tracks slide a little. Find myself swapping discs when we reach that point.
You guys should switch on to Rae & Christian's mix for the Anotherlatenight series. It's an absolute stormer for 14 tracks and 50-odd minutes of music (but drifts away on the last two, I can live with that). Buy, buy, buy, all you Royksopp fans.

Agree on 'Yoshimi'. Anyone want to give a quick review of the Loewenstein and Reindeer Section records for me? Heard bits of the Blak Twang the other day, and it does sound mighty.

That is what I thought the first time I heard it. Give it time. Also listen to it alone, in the dark and with headphones on. Then float away into the joy and fear of your childhood.

I've bought loads this year and am realy a rock fanatic at heart. However, I have to say Royksopp is true class. I have no idea why but it just hits the right spots.

However, I am really getting annoyed at hearing their music played on commercials and backgrounds. I bet Moby is glad he allowed his music to be used for ads. I got so sick of it in the end that I have not even given his new album a chance!

Royksopp fans should also listen out for Kings Of Convenience - what chill music should be about!

Moby - 18. I know there is a lot of hype that surrounds him but he really is class. This album came out in May and it was hard to really enjoy at first due to the expectation after "Play." But I've listened again and again and I have definitely decided last weekend that this album (as religious as it sounds!) is an absolute masterpiece.

I'm with you with the Doves comment mate. Coldplay is pushing it a close second but Ive only been listening to it non stop for the last 2 weeks so it will only get better.

Chili Peppers and The Streets CDs will be arriving for my birthday on Monday so maybe all this could change eh ?

In comparison to their previous albums, storytelling isn't that hot,
but you still can't go wrong with B+S.

Have you checked out elliot smith, particually XO.

would have to vote for Boards as best album so far this year

My favourites so far are:

The D4 - 6Twenty
B-Movie Heroes - Rock Music
A - Hi-Fi Serious
Bellrays - Meet The Bellrays

Haven't heard the new Weezer album yet but like someone else mentioned the Muppet Show video is great.

Well it isn't Tigermilk but I thought it was great because it was different to the usual B&S stuff. I'll check out the Elliot Smith stuff as you are obviously someone of consumate taste.

In no particular order:

The Streets - Original Pirate Material
The Vines - Highly Evolved
The Doves - Last Broadcast

Honourable mentions to the Chilli Peppers & Tencious D (not listened to either of them enough) and The Best of Squeeze.

Got a lot of good stuff coming out though, the new Coldplay album's good, but QOTSA, Underworld & Supergrass are to come.

You lot may have sold me on Royksopp, I will keep an I out.

I'll second that - the instrumentals are pretty good, particularly the one with the rude title, B&S re-telling Spinal Tap's "Lick my love pump" gag.

Anyone else heard the ex-Beta Band member Lone Pigeon's 'Concubine Rice' album - weird and wonderful stuff

The Reindeer Section record is pretty much like a more joyful Snow Patrol album (not surprising, I suppose). Just very tuneful and mellow, with some twisted lyrics. Good to see the Alfie boys getting involved on it too.

Sorry, can't possibly write a decent review but hunt around and I'm sure you'll find dozens of people more eloquent than me!

Loewenstein album is kinda similar to sebadoh, unsurprisingly seeing as they're his earlier band. More like their 'bakesale' album than 'the sebadoh' album to me, but a bit rockier.
Good album- if you like sebadoh, buy this- but I think rolling stone went abit overboard when they said:
'Jason Loewenstein has created the distinctive sound that will define a new wave of rock and roll abandon'

Personally, go for it.:p

Was Starsailor "Love is Here" this year? If so it will get my vote.

The Vines "Highly Evolved" is also a corker. Looking forward to hearing new Coldplay , Supergrass, Flaming Lips and Suede though.

Top shout YE, my sentiments exactly. I went to see CC's at the Astoria in June when they played some material off Hard Candy. I wasnt too impressed at the time, but after listening to it a few times, I think it's brilliant. They certainly have changed direction and it's paid off!

BTW, that track off This Desert Life is Mrs Potters Lullably!

I lament at the dearth of quality guitar based music at the moment.

Slightly above average (but no more than slightly) bands like The Doves and Starsailor get hyped as the saviours of the universe because there is nothing else to cling to.

It makes me weep. It really does.

Oh yes you know it makes sense. The album is truly awesome and its getting top reviews all over the place.

You wait till you lot hear the chorus to "Warning Sign" - THE most important bit of the whole album I think.
