Having just come from Henley, do you think that Steve Redgrave is the greatest sportsman of all time and should he win the the sports personality award instead of coming second?

If he wins the gold I think he'll get it. I think it's safe to say Gary Neville is out of the running.

It's gotta be Steve Coppell

As Redgrave is our only realistic hope of winning a gold medal at these Olympics, he sure does deserve it if he wins.
Steve Coppell - personality of the year?
Fair play to the guy, but I wouldn't use the words Steve Coppell and persoanlity in the same sentence often. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif

I was reading the Scottish Sunday Mail and I couldn't help but smile that Gary Neville was their "Hero of the Week". The accompanying article suggested that he could get a free drink in any bar in Scotland for the rest of his life.
and that's nice.

Whereas Redgrave is personality personified, of course.

That's very pessimistic. I don't really blame you given the state of British sport at the moment though. But other hopes of Gold: Backley, Jackson, Edwards, Iwan Thomas (recovery permitting), Mark Richardson (drug ban permitting) and even Chambers, Campbell and Gardener. Alright Greene will be hard to beat but they all did it the other day, he can be beaten.

You're right, we do have some good athletes on the up. The 4x400 team the last couple of years have all looked promising.
And I completely forgot, our Ladies Olympic curling team will be unbeatable this time!

The men should do pretty well. As for the women though http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/blue.gif, Merry is our only hope.

But personality doesn't mean personality or persoanlity for this award, otherwise the great Michael Owen (and has he achieved alot?????) and the not boring Damon Hill would never have stood a chance.

Of course you're right Viking but do you know, there was a time when this award really did mean Sports PERSONALITY of the Year and the public persona of the eventual winner was very much a deciding factor.
I suppose there came a time when they realised that if having a "personality" was a pre-requisite, they might end up having no one to give the award to some years!
