I use slsk and it's very good once yuo get used to the interface. Free, large body of music, no pop-up ads, no spyware software that others like to use.

slsk is the best for dance related music by a mile. WinMX is also a good source

Kazaa has spyware and other programs tacked onto it like Gator, Kazaalite has been altered so that it doesn't.
And just as a reminder:

Yeah that's what I mean, oops, I'll edit the original post. Kazaa bad, Kazaalite good.
If you log on to CNET.com there are loads of fileshare sites you could try out and also check out other users opinions, loads of free downloads as well, try download accelerator, it does what it says on the tin!

People seem to like Soulseek a lot at the moment, you can look at what individual people are using (unlike Kazaa) and it has none of that spyware stuff with it either. It's great if there's one band you like and you can find/establish a 'room' for fans to meet in, then there's loads of stuff available for you to get hold of. This is only in my (extremely limited) experience.

In my probally even more limited experience of soulseek, I've found Kazaa much quicker to download.

I'm very keen to find a good site - mainly for "gap-filling", ie obtaining those tracks that have been annoyingly left off albums etc. I still buy CDs and would not want a collection built wholly of "blank" CDs with no sleeve notes and so on.
It might be useful to have a section on the BBS just for music-related chit-chat as there's a huge number of musos on the boards. We could then make the download thread sticky as there are some useful links on here.....

That's what I do, I've only ever downloaded one complete album.
I think a music forum would be a good idea.
I'll also give a shout to DC++, a hub client that's great if you have a fast connection, and gets better and better the more you have available to share, since you can use hubs with more people on them.

I popped back to the Audiogalaxy site the other day, lots of people moaning about how crap it had become. Saying it had "died".

Kazaa is still the proverbial daddy in my book. Apart from if you are looking for Bucks Fizz- Land of makebelieve.
I had a copy somewhere at work so I downloaded one for home and had to get 4 copies to find one of good quality.

Well Audiogalaxy did die, didn't it? When the RIAA moved in and blocked every song.
People seem to be saying Soulseek is the best thing since that.

Morpheus was good, but then the interface became very much hard work!!! So Kazaa, which was effectively the same, took over.
Soulseek seems to be the next big thing.

A true loss to society. Partly due to Metallica's Lars Ulrich! :(
