Music Downloads

I am new to this game of downloading music from the web and am interested in where you go to carry this out, I have heard of Napster & Kazaa but no little else, do you have to pay a monthly/yearly subscription ?

How does it all work ?
I have been told you can download the latest albums for free and this just doesn't sound right, surely there is some cost to pay ?

Basically, I wanna know where to go to download the De La Soul best of album for free !!!

Yes Kazaa is free and so is WinMx which I believe is part of Napster but, don't quote me on that!! If you are on dial-up then Kazaa will be your best bet but, if your on broadband then either will do.

There are others but, not sure which ones but, these are the 2 I use.
