Hello all you punters out there.
I have been reading the Betting thread with interest. But I have a question for all you gambling types.
What do you think is the best way to bet to make a consistant profit? Besides picking the winners that is.
Having been gambling for the best part of 30 years I think I have finally come to the conclusion that the best way to gamble, in order to make a consistant profit, is by placing single bets with level stakes. Half stakes for Each way bets (Including forcasts). And only bet on things that you think have a good chance. I select on average 4 or 5 a day.
I have based this theory by applying a 'What if' senario to various bets.
For example the old faithful, Lucky 15. In order to make a slight profit you need two winners at 9/4. (+2.06) By going level stake £4 win on each you win (+10). Only when you get to 3 winners and above do you make more money. With 1 winner the lucky 15 loses (-9.50) even with the double odds for one winner. With level stakes it's (-3)
On average you will get 2 winners 1 bet in 3 or 4 and 3 winners 1 bet in 7 or 8. As for 4 winners, depends how good you are!!!!
In the event that you make 5 selections the odds are even better in favour of singles. This is due to the multi-bet situation. i.e. Lucky31 or super yankee (26 bets). For 2 winners (9/4) Lucky31 (Outlay @ £1 stake = £31) (gives -13.94). Super Yankee outlay (£26) (gives -£15.5). Level stakes of £5 (O/L £25) (+7.50). So by laying out less you win more.
Also, how many times have you left one selection out and it's won, or added one to make the numbers up and it lets you down?
I have performed some experiments to back this up and despite winning £200 at Royal Ascot was still only slightly up over the month when doing multibets. I then experimented with 'betting only when in the shop'. This resulted in a slightly worse result. Backing dogs in A11 grade at Hove is not what I consider fun! The win percentage was 5 spots less than when studying form early for multibets.
I then moved on to buying the Racing post early again, studying form and placing bets for the Afternoon races lunchtime. I then study form for the evening meetings. So far this month I have a tidy, consistant profit. I will let you know if it continues. (The win percentage is back to what it was for the multibet experiment)
I kept records using XL for each experiment.
But enough of me. What do you think? Do you have any other things to try? Lets all make money!
