We tried to buy Gallen and now he's on a free. I don't think we should spend any money on transfer fees if it all be spent on wages.

Oisin, thanks for taking your time in doing this. Looking at it was interesting and must say a few of the Q.P.R. and Sheff Wed lads could be worth a try. I feel Kevin Gallen especially would be a good addition. Although you wouldn't think it some of the Port Vale players are ok aswell.

Joey Beauchamps and Alan Mahon of oxford and tranmere are meant to be good prospects so they could enter our midfield!

Oisin

Actually i haven't even read the list properly. I just saw it on another site and nicked it. Coppell doesn't have any scouts so i was wondering if the BBS could spot the bargins for him. From what I ahve seen i don't think we should need to part with a fee if we are willing to put the money into wages (yes I know it's the third time i've made that point but what the hell it's a good one). Lets play by the post Bosman game.

Kevin Francis is already back at Oxford so i don't know how acurate it is.

Gallen and Murray at QPR definitely worth a punt, but Gallen didn't do anything last season did he?

Why has no-one snapped up Scales yet? (Is he that past it?)

Is Burrows up to much these days????

Tony Dorigo would probably keep us going for a season or two - don't know exactly how old he is now (32+)?, but I reckon we'd get at least a season out of him. He could be a good buy if, as it looks, we can't sign Ashley Cole.
Also, wasn't Scott Mean a decent player - ex West Ham?

Gooders
17-05-2000, 02:23 PM
I don't think that there is any point in looking at people who have been "released" by 2nd and 3rd division clubs. (e.g Scott Mean).

Thanks for the tip Edmundo.

What on earth happened to Mike Marsh? - looked a good prospect at Liverpool a few years back and now released by a non-league team!

Wouldn't bother with Beauchamp either - an in-and-out performer who doesn't like London (or in fact anywhere other than Oxford - a bit career-limiting?).

Benny B Block
17-05-2000, 02:50 PM
We could do a lot worse than going for Winterburn now that Ashley's booting him out at Arsenal. Guaranteed first team place and staying in London might tempt him. With him and Linighan we will rival Everton for an elderly defence.

Other thoughts: Ullathorne (leicester) if he ever gets fit, Gallen, Murray and Williams (coventry).

What about Ricketts at Wallsall? Seem to recall him be rather good from the day they played at Selhurst till the end of the season.....

interested in sydney.

Ricketts reminded me of a bad Heskey - big but went to ground very easily. I remember reading that his boss thinks he is too lazy.

sounds like Heskey then

Gooders....I think Mike Marsh had an insurance payout on a dodgy knee,so he is unable to play professional football.

Agree with Wedgetail re Paul Williams. If he has anything left could be a snip.

Riccardo 'the cat'Parrini
17-05-2000, 07:42 PM
The Paul Williams that plays for Coventry, right?? We really want him at Selhurst.....oh my god, has it really come to this?? Scales is a bit of a ponce but may bring something to the defence....hairspray. I reckon he might be ok. Gallen would be really good with Morrison, if Mr G. could stay fit.

As long as I have got the right guy, I was pretty impressed with Mahon of Tranmere when I saw him on 3 separate occasions. Good engine, good shooting and creativity.

Talking about releases, an interesting one from a Scottish club is an S. Curcic (Motherwell).

No I won't even bother to suggest on here that we sign him, the fireworks might fly or I might get shot.

I think I read somewhere that Williams has signed a new contract at Cov. Don't think he'd drop a division either.....

James Verrinder

I hear that Coventry would let Aloisi go for the same money that they got him, which was around £750,000. He was scoring bundles in this division

"Bundles" That sounds like the efforts that Bruce Dyer used to knock in for us.

it i the one and same - is being touted as the next best thing for the irish.
so he'll want to come to london to play for a team that is just out of administration, and couldn't fully pay its players ?? http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smokin.gif

Scales,Dorigo ? haven't we had enough with over the hill players on huge wages ?

think aiming for premiership players might be a bit optimistic. think SC will be looking a little lower.

ZOHAR
19-05-2000, 04:58 AM
But he always said that he loved the club. I read somewhere that Ron Noades might want him at Brentford!

What about Ben Thatcher for our left-back vacancy? He's worth £6m so we could give them our £3m and flog £3m rated Mullins. That seems like good business doesn't it ?!

Eagle
19-05-2000, 05:03 AM
If Coppell gets enough cash then John Aloisi really could be a good signing. He was another one of those players linked with us when Venables was here and was strongly rumoured that he would join us. If Coventry are selling in the region of £500,000 - £750, 000 then he really could prove a good buy especially in the first division. Apparently good mates with Foster, Portsmouth days, links ups quite a bit with Rizzo when on international duty.

yeah could do a good job - BUT, don't forhet the ruling just made about non-eu players ?? nationwide teams can only play ONE non-eu player.

g'day messr.s foster and rizzo, our non-eu has got to be fan

Skid Row

Sombrero pointed out that
nationwide teams can only play ONE non-eu player.
That would have to be one of the gayest rules I've ever heard.

Also, you can stick Aloisi when the sun dont shine. I've told you people a million times to buy Brett Emerton but with only one non-eu based player allowed to pull on the claret and blue then I'm sure Fan would be everyones preferred choice.

There is no point buying another non - E.U.
player, if they can't be played, Fan is the Man.

James Verrinder

When was that rule brought in? There have been plenty of times when we have had more than oneout of fan, Foster, Antunes and Fernando playing.

Joey Beauchamp is a total Oxford boy, he will never leave - he gets homesick. Shame because he's a good player.

Well, at least our defence is sorted out - Ladeeeez an' Gennnlemen, I give you.....GARY ABLETTTTTTTT!!!!!! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Maybe hints about left-back possibilities aren't coming out of Selhurst because the Sun deal is imminent?
Wishful thinking, I know, but I'd settle for Cole, Sun, or Phelan......
Cole is the only player out there I'd want to see Palace go the extra financial mile, or ten, for. Anything we would have to pay for him would be a fantastic investment in a future international defender.
Unfortunately, the Ar*e, are only to aware of his potential.

I never heard of that EU rule before because towards the end of the season several times our line up included Fan Zhiyi, Craig Foster, and i'm not sure if he falls into this category but Mikael Forssell all lined up for us, with also Nicky Rizzo as a substitute.

I'm not suggesting for a minute that anyone goes through that list seeing who has been sold and/or released and stuff, but if anyone else sees a revised list (with a midfielder by the name of rp???!?) then an up to date list would rock almost as much as Iron Maiden did a couple of weeks ago. Quite a lot, then.

Eagle
09-07-2000, 02:54 AM
Joe, i've looked through a revised list and the only person with the initials RP is Ryan Palmer from Brighton so i don't think that helps. But i don't think it'll be a free signing anyway

Gerry from Sussex
09-07-2000, 04:50 AM
Quite a bunch of has beens in that list and some of the good ones have already been snapped up (eg. Winterburn).

I agree with sombrero about Mahon. I thought he was easily Tranmere's best player and I wouldn't be at surprised if he moves up a division before long.

The midfielder which really caught my eye though was Ian Bishop - I was surprised he left West Ham in the first place and even more surprised City are letting him go (although I suppose they have the money to get someone even better now). Could be a good signing for a club like Palace.

GreatGonzo

Mahon will be playing Champions league next year!
Man U? NO
Arsenal? NO
Leeds? NO

Lazio? NO

He has seen fit to play for Sporting Lisbon!

Apologies as this may have been mentioned already but i have been informed by a colleague at work that Huddersfield have now released an Alan Lee Band (wristband).

Got to be worth a purchase!
