Half time report

Sheffield United soaked up all the pressure and then hit Palace with a sucker punch via an injury-time goal from Marcus Bent.

After a shaky start, Palace enjoyed most of the early possession - but chances were up for grabs.

Clinton Morrison fired over from 12 yards out, and eight minutes later Palace captain Neil Ruddock headed over Jamie Pollock's free-kick.

The Blades had another let-off when Tommy Black crossed into the goalmouth and Morrison cleverly peeled away from his marker only for his point-blank header to fly a whisker over the bar.

United were quite composed, though, relying on Bent for their main source of attack.

The former Eagle brought a fine stop from Stuart Taylor on 25 minutes and the United striker earlier saw a header over the bar.

But the home side continued to pile on the pressure, and Ruddock smashed a low shot which fortunately for United ricocheted off a defender.

Paul Kitson - on loan from West Ham - was leading the Palace line effectively. He was unlucky with a low shot which was blocked but then hit the return towards the top corner before David Kelly saved the day for the Blades with a miracle header off the line.

The breakthrough came when a terrible back pass from Craig Harrison was gratefully collected by Kelly. He squared for Bent, who had no difficulty slotting past Taylor.

How things have changed in 8 years but I still hate the last 90 minutes of a Palace game ;)
