When I saw this I started thinking of a Simon and Garfunkel song. Sure enough 'Leaves that are green' by Paul Simon and 'New England' by Billy Bragg both start with "I was 21 years when I wrote this song, I'm 22 now but I won't be for long".
Did Bragg ever admit that he swiped those lines? I expect I'm not the first person to notice this but I've never seen it discussed anywhere. Probably because it's too boring....

I'll never forget the first time I met her,
that September morning was clear and fresh,
the way she spoke and laughed at my jokes and the way she rubbed herself against the edge of my desk.
I must admit to naming my first boy 'Billy' after His Braggness http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Errrr....was it:
She became a magical mystery...
To me and we'd sit together in double history
Twice a week
And sometimes we'd get the same bus home
And it's suprising how wet
A little rain can make the streets...
(this is all from memory mind...)
Brings back a few memories. Remember when he first came onto the scene in 1984 I think it was. He had a residency in a room over the 'Captain's Cabin' pub just off Haymarket. Seem to remember that it was every Friday night, and each week the queues got longer until they stretched around the block.
Just pre- student days for me...

... In the end it took me a dictionary to find out the meaning of unrequited,
while she was giving herself for free at a party to which I was never invited.
I never understood my failings then, and I hide my humble hopes now,
thinking back... she made us want her - and a girl not old enough to shave her legs.

Thanks all the same
But I just can't bring myself to answer your letters
It's not your fault
But your honesty touches me like a fire
The polaroids that hold us together
Will surely fade away
Like the love that we spoke of forever
On St. Swithens Day.

And the Judge said, "This isn't a court of justice son, this is a court of law"

Intelligence, a swiss army knife and charm
but that's not enough sometimes
I managed to sneak this line into my speech on my wedding day, especialy to wind up my wife who is no fan of the bard from Barking, she didn't notice.
