BBS Betting Masters - February Champions League

[Grim Reaper]

Here we go folks with what shouldhopefully be a thread of red hot punting as we look to find the BBS Betting Master

This thread is only to be used for competition comments. Any other bets that are not part of the Masters should be put on the normal Betting Thread.

Anyone can join at ANY time during February '04. It's free to join and the only rule upon joining is that you start your first tip with I'M IN in capitals at the start of it so that I can keep an easy trace of when people started their campaigns.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 150 points to bet with.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 15 bets during the month.

3 Betting Masters runs from NOW to 2359hrs on 29/2/04 (extra day to bet with this year!) Final bet settlement must occur before 0600 on March 1st.

4 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on March 1st

5 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.

6 Players must quote where they're getting their prices. In the case of exchanges, in order to clariy that a price genuinely existed the player must put on some of their real money to create a betting slip that will confirm the price they have submitted for Betting Masters. Most prices will be acceptable but in the case of a very high price, a player may be asked to produce a screen print on the thread to verify the price they
quote.

7 Singles and upwards accepted.

8 For boxed multis and bets such as yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

9 For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than international cricket/European soccer/tennis.

10 Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

Bit unfiar to say he's ruined it just by placing two winning bets. He did a double of Singh to win the tournament at the weekend (which you tell me happened) and Els to win his three ball. Double paid out at 11.22 = 112 points in the competition.

Not exactly mammoth score but a very good win all the same. If he now suffers a losing run like stigma and LLCOOL (although LLCOOL has now rescued it after a few losses) then the competition is still wide open.

Hmmm, I don't wish to be the party pooper but these aren't legit bets. I'll have to put it to all the players to have their say. I honestly missed them the first time I went through the thread but as it's the morning when I do the full scan of everything I would have picked it up tomorrow.

You can't do bets that wouldn't have been allowed in real life i.e. combine a treble/double with different bookies.

As it's a competition for everyone I won't make the decision by myself but as I see it there's a number of solutions.

a) It's for fun so let the bets stand
b) They're incorrect bets hence the lack of total odds per bet so they should be scrapped and Finbar be given 0 points for each of them
c) should be null and void and Finbar carries on like they were never placed.
d) Finbar carries on with his jumbo score but if anyone comes close (we can decide how close the margin needs to be) then they get to play him in a play-off at the end of Feb/start of March to decide the winner.
e) we change the rules to have the top two/four two/three day play off on the final weekend of the month, that way Finbar will (almost certainly) be in the final play off and everyone has a fair crack of the whip with the rules clear.

time for bed but in my defence can't access any bookies from my work pc so went by oddschecker.com odds on my phone

picking the winners is the main thing, the difference in winnings would be relatively marginal (someone mentioned 500pts win, worst case scenario would be 450pts from some shark)

Nothing in the rules to say you can't (though appreciate in reality I could not have had those odds)...
Just checked and having odds for multis from the same bookie is not a criteria

I backed each team with bet365 at odds that I can back up (bar Chelsea as I only did a treble)

At the end of the day am happy to go with whatever Grim rules as this is his baby and his ruling is final, I'll be back whatever

i said that everyone must register by the end of the first week.
otherwise, some people can join in with a "full load" of points, right at the end and set themselves up to win it through big multi's etc...
at the same time, those who have punted throughout the month, might be at a disadvantage..

Everyone gets a 'full load of points'. As I said before, if people chose to 'go for broke' and use them all up at the beginning of the month, then they run the risk of 'disadvantaging' their own chances if they bomb out.

I don't see how getting people to register by the end of the first week would make much difference, if any. Those who wish to wait until later in the month before placing their bets will still be able to do so.

If they do manage to land a big multi then so be it and good luck to them. When they land it is surely irrelevant, be it the first day or the last of the month.

I think Grim's organised things pretty well spot on. A good and easy to understand set of rules without going OTT.:)

There's no way the bet should be disqualified but I think Finbar should work out what the actual odds for each would have been and then take 50pts off. Bet Direct and Canbet are usually 5% better than most other bookies.

You have to work out the total at least, I've got 11 picks left and won last night on Spurs so I reckon I can overhaul this :) .

Current pos 4 picks 38.2.

BTW I took as read that all bets have to be actually possible if you know what I mean

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I'll go with oz's 7th of the month ruling. It takes time to administrate this thing and the thought of a flurry of people betting 15 multi bets on the last weekend doesn't fill me with joy!

Honest truth, had a £10 treble with Bet 365 which returned £201.60 and the odds were not as good as I had through oddschecker

Spurs - 2/1
Birmingham - 11/10
Villa - 11/5

Didn't include Chelsea, considering they were 8/13 best available would happily agree to them having been 1/2
