Goldmine Rules (as agreed by regulars on this board)

A Goldmine Bet is one that is:

1. Very likely to win
2. Backed up by detailed reasoning as to WHY it will win
3. Minimum odds of 1.5 (or 1/2)

How to create a neat formatted table as below:

(I got this from the Motley Fool website where they have various discussions about it (as it is a financial website where people want to post Excel tables)


1. Create table in Excel as normal

2. Save as 'Formatted Text (space delimited)' - this adds the .prn suffix to the file

3. Open the Notepad application

4. Go to 'Open' and in the line 'Files of type' choose 'All Files'

5. Open your saved Excel document which will have .prn suffix

6. This should be lined up neatly in rows and columns

7. Copy and paste into your post using the 'code' tags

Well I was trying not to be arsey about it but yes - It's not really going to work if you start posting any old bollox on it. The whole point is that any updates on this thread should alert people to a good tip. This could work well if you give it a chance. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously....

Anyway here goes with my first effort -

Stoke 2.65 Centrebet to beat Gillingham.

For some reason the Australians have priced up the Gills as favourites. Fortunately I know the score - Stoke loathe the pikies and will be trying to send them down. The Gills did them in the play offs 4 years ago in a highly controversial match (see Rob Styles) Add to that Pulis was sacked by Gillingham in even more controversial circumstances. Stoke are well up for this game and let's face it they are the better side. They just tonked WBA 4-1 with a seriously weakened team. Gills lack a lot up front and will be under pressure. There's a bright young player at Stoke called Cummings and I can see him waltzing around the statuesque Gills defence which conceded 5 yes 5 to Coventry.

I think this one's a good un - and this price will go so worth getting on now. In itself this is definitely a gold bet but wait if you're not sure and go with Stoke (0) on the Asian available at Pointbet 2.12 and Pinnacle.

HOLD FIRE! If you haven't bet onthis then don't touch it just yet. Rain has intervened and if that continues then Hewitt's prayers will have been answered and it'll get played tomorrow.

The thing is, with a lot of matches potentially being squeezed in tomorrow, we have a situation where there could be seven or even more players having to playtwo game sin one day. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Pavel's now generally 8/11 and Hewitt EVS. Hills must be praying that Hewitt recovers because they have been hammered on the high Pavel prices!

I posted one tip yesterday which won and 1 today, there were 5 race meetings today, average of 7 races at each, and i posted 1 horse up! (which came 2nd)

Not your tips - the other stuff which has flooded in making it harder to find the tips that are coming through.

btw it's not a race to find one horse a day. The whole thing started with me saying to oz that when he had a truly great bet he should use another word from dump/lump etc so that I/we knew it was something special.

I think mico envisaged 1-2 tips a week maximum on here but almost 100% guaranteed despite odds of 1.5+.

Admittedly I've charged in with the Pavel tip but the fact the odds have been slashed by 30% tells you it was a good bet at the time

MK are a top 1.division side, Eiger are minnows from the 3.division.
In similar games yesterday the top 14 teams all won there games with a total goal difference of 73-2 :eek:

It will probably seem a bit strange for me to bet against the team that won 7-0 in the cup on Thursday. But this is a completely different match.
Aalesund are (together with my team Start) the favourites to win the league this season. This after they were unlucky to go down from the Norwegian “premiership” last season.
They’ve started with 3 wins out of there first 4 games and are normally a very strong home side. Mandalsk. are an above average team, but they always lose against strong opposition. Last weekend they lost 2-0 at home to Kongsvinger whilst my own team Start beat them 4-1 in Mandal. Mandalsk. have also got an important midfielder suspended for this game.
Home win.. I’m actually feeling more “confident” about this bet, than the Thursday one.. It’ won’t be 7-0 to the home side, but I think they’ll win easily.

The best odds I could find was 1.55 on Centrebet..

Apologies again for ”abusing” this thread…but I think there’ll be more than 2,5 goals in this game. As previously stated on the betting thread, the normal under/over goal bet is normally 3,5 on the Norwegian games. This is because there normally are more goals in Norwegian games than in for example England.

At the risk of a red card I will put up the following horse at York today:

York 13:30: THYOLO, no early price yet but should be 5/2 or 11/4.

This horse ran a brilliant race at Newmarket on 2nd May finishing second in a 1 mile 0-90 handicap. The race was run in a very quick time relative to the other races that day and I think the horse has a few pounds in hand over its current handicap mark of 90. Todays race is a 0-100 over 10f which suits the breeding of the horse and the going is slightly softer than Newmarket which will also suit the horse. There a lot of unexposed horses in the race but I always prefer proven handicap form over fancy maiden winners, the price is quite short for a competetive race like this but with fitness, trainer in form and a good jockey (J P Murtagh) I think it will win.

You go to the place market on Betfair. It tells you on the right hand side how many places they pay out on that race, probably just the 2 for that one you just did, ie the first 2 horses. So under the race you want to bet on, it should say to place market or something.

Atillio, sorry mate but 2/5 doesn't qualify has to be 1.5 or above. Might also have to put some sort of time limit on this as it's highly unlikely that anyone's going to get on otherwise.

My reasoning for the above bet:
Start is the top team in this division, but they're finding it harder to score goals now. Mainly because everyone else in the 1.division plays very defensively against them. Start's main striker is also a bit out of form. Vard are a defensive side. There 2 first home games have both ended in 1-1 draws. Given that it's five years before Paul can legeally bet I think he doesn't have the full grasp of what loising real money has on us oldies. The thing with the nags, as you are probably aware, is alot of the time the market can guide you as much as the form, sometimes its easy to give alot of warning but other times you can have an odds on horse as predicted in the morning which drifts to odds on because people know its not going to run to its best, or will need the run or something, If people are around when i post the tips they will get them, luck of the draw i suppose.

Well pleased with this. Won't even large it as I knew this was my strongest bet of the year. Simply way overpiced thanks to Federer not being that big in USA whereas of course Roddick is. As I said in my original post, I didn't golooking for this - it was there and was the strongest bet I've seen in months. My goldmine appearances will be limited but you can rest assured that when I stick them up, they'll be a strong as you can get. 95% profit margin so far.

Great work by the way to EVERYONE. Haven't been on here for a few days but the P&L is looking good now.
