Bowie-Fairfield Ziggy Tour
Hawkwind-Fairfield (Supported by some bunch called Bethnal who stick in the mind because they were awful, after their second 'song' we went to the bar till the real act came on).
Rory Gallagher-Dominion
Meat Loaf_Hammy Odeon First Tour (never forget ellen Foley in a skin tight cat suit)
Jimmy Page-Hammy Odeon John Miles Keyboards, Jason Bonham Drums, Stairway to Heaven as an encore. "We do this as an instrumental but if anybody knows the words feel free to sing along" Nearly brought the house down.

New Fast Automatic Daffodills at the Town & Country Club in 1990 - class!
Great thread,
So, so, many
Motorhead, No sleep till Hamersmith tour preview at the original Marquee, the full PA in that little place, I was so deaf they sent me home from school the next day.
The Selector at The George Robey, mayhem http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif.
PiL at the Hammersmith Palais early 80's, I was young.
King Kurt at the Fridge, getting my hair cut for free on stage by a mad Glaswegian in a dress.
The Shamen at Glastonbury 93/94???, down to be so trashed with a great light show. Carter USM same year when the encouraged people to break in over the fence.
The Chemical Brothers at the Academy two years ago, the best sound quality ever.
Thin Lizzy, Angelic Upstarts, Ian Dury, Psychic TV, Stiff Little Fingers, Foo Fighters, Underworld all get a mention.
But the best beleive it or not was:
Meatloaf, Brixton Academy 82/83 filmed for TV I think it was the old Grey Whistle test when he still drank and took drugs, went on for about an hour and a half after the camera's stopped, singing, screaming his head off and stripping the dancers out of what little leather they were wearing. Never seen anything like it real Rock and Roll.

I remember the wet Bath festival. I think the first band on playing acoustic were the Byrds.
I went off to bed at IOW when the Who came on. Also thought the Doors were unbelievable. Gave my girlfriend the binoculars to watch and she kept them glued on Morrison for their whole set. She had a wicked look on her face. Still was a fun night afterwards.
I have a DVD of the 1970 IOW festival. Haven't found any for Bath, which is a shame as they were better.

OK, so I've clearly been following Dillenger, freebird and psychokiller around the country! The MBV, Spiritualized, Orb, Orbital, Madd Professor, Sonic Youth and Gil Scot-Heron gigs would all be up there in my top ten. I'd add to that Mercury Rev/Flaming Lips at Bradford University in about 93, Tsunami at the Leeds Duchess of York and Huggy Bear there too, all about the same time (odd choices, I know, but sometimes it's the smaller ones that get you), an early Bjork gig at the Astoria and a Diamanda Galas/Lydia Lunch thing that my university put on once.
Can't agree with Dinosuar Jr though - I'm a big J Mascis fan, but I've never seen him play a decent gig, ever! It's usually just a semi-atonal indistinguishable noisefest with him alternately mumbling and roaring as he attempts to get off stage as quickly as possible. Saw a great Sebadoh gig in Leeds once, though.
Worst ever has to be the Velvet Underground at Glastonbury - Lou Reed deliberately screwing arounds with the songs and ruining them in an attempt at deconstruction. Loser.

Slightly different genre, but Jools Holland and the Rhythm and Blues Orchestra at the Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall last Friday was preety groovy, if you like 100% musical energy pumping from 6 musicians backed by 12 brass blasters.
