How do people handle media comments?

It seems to me every time a player is praised I should praise them too because otherwise they feel they have no support.

Also whenever a player is criticized I should defend them every time?

i always build them up/defend them.... it's only backfird once, when i defended my right back, and the fans said something like they were concerned that i was not an accurate judge, and that i should have been able to see he's playing ****!!

occasionally, criticising your players can help, but v.risky!! and only ever "played down praise" once, and the player immediately slapped in a transfer request!!

Yeah unfortunately I played it down with Tonton... ick he was not happy and "sent a message to his boss" on the pitch ! !

I just thought, he's young (20) and needs protecting from the media. Silly mistake.

Jeeeeez - all I can say to anyone is dont ever do the wrong thing(!)

Every time Mokouko scores (which is a lot) he "makes a point to the manager" as the commentary goes. Which is annoying because all I said was he can do better and he has done better.

A load of others became unhappy with me. John Curtis stopped training and refuses to negotiate a new contract. My results have significantly worsened.

All because I played down praise for Mokouko. @#*$@*%

BLAH. Stupid game :D

I always back the player,I found out very early it ends in a mess if you dont and 99% of the time the fans and chairman praise you for it.

I would praise the player, and either defend or no comment on criticism.

When i was manager of Twente in Holland recently, the media had a go at one of my players. I defended him and the fans and the chairman got upset with me lieing to the press!!!

This is quite strange because at the moment i seem to be getting a never ending flow of media attention for my players, like 3 times a week (SURELY SOME KIND OF RECORD!) I have defended/built up every single one and it has worked so far, in fact the Fans love me for it. Im sure though eventually it is gonna backfire as some have already said!

Ill ride my luck for a bit longer!

Always praise them, always defend them, even if they're playing hopeless

Only time I didn't was when I was managing Southampton, and critised Dean Richards for being useless, and all hell broke loose. Even the board and fans hated me, and I was suddenly on the 'Jobs' page as 'Insecure'. I'd taken over in Feb, and they were facing the drop, and it nearly cocked up a relegation great escape.

I always warn them, though if they're late for training, although I warned my No1 keeper once, and he slapped in a transfer request and accused me of victimising him!
