I'm quite disappointed that Barnsley away is midweek for the second year running. Surely a bit of rotation in those fixtures would be an idea, as it would for those teams which play away on the first and last days of the season (if that needs to happen, which frankly I doubt).

They should really have something in place so that you don't have to travel a ridiculous distance to an away fixture midweek. Maybe those people who draw up the fixture lists have shares in Railtrack/National Express/Motorway Service Stations/Hotels/B&Bs, etc. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense to annoy a lot of supporters who have to weigh up whether they want to use some valuable leave hours/days to go to these fixtures.

Been there, done that. Not happy. :(

Well I don't think they have any shares in Failtrack if they had any sense. How many times have I looked at the possibility of going to an away match and found out that I would not get home on the train home and said sod it, I won't go. But yes you are right, the fixture list should be designed to be fairer for travelling supporters, not only for Palace fans but also visitors to Selhurst from oop North who should not be force to travel down on a weekday.

The Football League must love stitching Palace up.
Again we're away on the Opening day, Boxing Day, and the Final Day, and then they send us up north to play in midweek.
Why can't they use common sense and schedule local games in the week for all the sides, make it a whole lot easier for everyone.
Still, i'll look forward to Rotherham away, should be a good game, Rotherham will want to prove themselves and will be hyped up for the fixture as it's their first in Division One but also we'll be out to prove a point big time, for our performance all last season and we have a new man in charge.

I remember some fun trips to Rotheram in years past. Station is right next to the ground. Had trouble getting a drink because plod tried to get us inside, but managed to escape one year and had a good time in some boozer down the road. I also recall after winning there walking from the away end to the station involved walking behind on of the stands and northerners were breaking bricks off the top of the wall and lobbing them down on us.

Oh Happy Days!

I have seen all the conflicting reports on the last match. It would appear that we are indeed away again. It is becoming a joke, the squatters get home matches to start and finish again, I know last season was partly due to the ground sharing with Gillingham red herring, but I hope the club protest in the stongest terms about this. One of the games should be at home, both these two fixtures are by tradition well attended and therefore we miss out on two potential revenue generators. Its a disgrace ! I agree first and last games are good crack if away trips, but when its Palace both these games are important from the point of view of confidence and points, in that order most years. Its about time we were treated fairly. It would appear that Steve Bruce has not attracted some of that old Man Utd luck (fixing) with him.

BRADFORD FIXTURE postponed
Official Palace website
Thursday, June 21, 2001

Crystal Palace's fixture against Bradford City on Monday August 27th has been postponed as the game falls on the same day as the Notting Hill carnival. A new date for the match has yet to be announced.

Is it just me or does this not seem a little strange, unless they have moved Notting Hill:confused:
I have it very good authority that Moan Utd will be unable to play any homes games because these dates fall on the sames dates that everyone else in the world does not give a flying f**k who they are playing:D

I can understand the need to deploy large numbers of police in Notting Hill, but surely there's enough police left in London to do both the carnival and Selhurst Park.
Or maybe the blue line is so thin that there'll be no police left in Croydon that day.
Have all the London games been postponed on carnival day or have we drawn the short straw?
Or maybe SJ wants to go to the carnival, and Bradford can come to Selhurst on a wet, cold Tuesday in November.

Not certain but I think it is because they have to move the play offs to an earlier date than usual because of the world cup

Top game to start with. Only new ground needed and I get it out of the way on opening day!! Dodgy Boxing Day game, especially with Brighton up in London that day. Apart from Forest away, a good opening set of games. Palace should be able to have a solid start.... for a change!!
