Just as in real life (next season) my Palace team have won the first division championship. In my case largely with the help of Flappy Chicken's tactic.
I seem to have a real knack for buying brilliant young midfielders and attackers, but am a complete a**e when it comes to defenders. I know that the lot I've got at the moment are going to struggle in the Prem.
All the posts on favourite players seem to concentrate on the exciting ones. But has anyone got any s**t hot, solid, don't care how boring defenders out there?

Try Philippe Christanval of Monaco and Philippe Mexes of Auxerre. Both are quality in my game and form the centre and left side (along with Thuram at DR) of my Nantes side.
Also, Taribo West is good.

That's an odd coincidence. I've just bought him. Recommended by one of my scouts.
Thanks for all the tips everyone! Palace WILL win the Premiership (even if it is only a virtual one)

Teddy Lucic (Swedish Defender Right/Centre) is pretty good. But play him at Centre Back rather than Full Back.

In my game the're everywhere. I have about 10 amazing defenders. I'm in the year 2010 so it won't be of anyhelp to you. If you can get people like Paulo Montero the're always good at first.

I'm still in the past playing 97/98 but Mark Fish is always amazing, and gianluca Festa. Im in 2000-1 3rd in the Premiership with Middlesborough with:
Festa Fish
Chris Casper Blondeau
they dont concede!

In my random version, all of my defenders kick ass, with 2 of them being in the top 5 tacklers of a Premiership Blackpool. Don't ask me what I've done though, as normally my teams sink without trace in their 1st season.

Trailing though Premiership reserve teams can prove fruitful
Arron Hughes (Newcastle)
Gary Docherty (Spurs)
John O`Shere, Ronnie Wallwork and Lee Roche (all Manure)
Danny Hay (Leeds)
Ashley Cole (Arse)
These can all be signed for under 1.5 million or signed on loan for the season and they all ( Huges and Docherty especially evolve into decent players)
Carl Laurie from Northwich Victoria is another great prosect

Paul Dillon (D LC from rotherham)
Scott Wilson (D C from rangers)
Eddie Howe (D C from bournemouth)

If you really want to find a defender yourself, look for 13+ stats in the following areas.
Anticipation
Agility
Tackling
Bravery
Determination
Strength
And by using this you should get a good defender
