Well, recieved my complimentary tickets from Simon Jordan this morning for the Burnley game. My girlfreind got two for the Sheffield Utd game, so I guess my three other season ticket holding mates will have gotten 2 each too.
A good idea, all these complimentary tickets...the fuller the ground on a match day the better.

Well, I got mine for the Sheffield Game, but isn't it a bit silly! You're more likely to sign people up for season tickets if they haven't seen us play!!!!
You never know, there are always more massochists out there!

Got mine for Sheffield. I think there is probably more chance that these will go to potential future payers than the large chunk of several thousand apparently given away for the previous two home matches (eg 500 to Bromley Council). Before anyone jumps down my throat, I have said on a previous thread that I have no problem with freebies, which are a legitimate way of marketing, just a concern over potential backlash from pay on the dayers.

I've got 6 so far for Burnley. I might be able to give a couple away, but if anyone here wants a ticket let me know.
Strangely enough the 6 I have are for the 3 season tickets that I DIDN'T get the 10% beer discount letter for which was for a junior ticket I have for my nephew. There do seem to be 2 sets of lists for season tickets, e.g. in my case:
1 junior
- first to receive ticket booklet
- received 10% beer letter
1 adult, 2 junior
- received booklet 2 weeks later
- all received 2 free tickets
Has anyone else noticed this.

I spoke to the club about this on Wednesday because I haven't received anything personally from the club for over a year (Season Ticket/Jordan Letter/Palace News/Golden Eagle Membership/etc.) but Blind Minor had.
They assured me that I was on the mailing list and could only suggest that most things were only sent to one individual at any one address and as his initial (A) comes before mine, it was sent to him not me. She wasn't certain but it was the only idea she could come up with.
So thats ok then...

Blind,
The forename initial reason doesn't work in my case as I have,
Mailing list 1:
junior - initial J (male)
Mailing list 2:
adult - initial W (male)
junior - initial C (female)
junior - initial M (male)
Unless they are being sexist as well, as the first initial is for my daughter!!!
Has anyone received BOTH the 10% beer letter and the free tickets for the same season ticket.

Got some for the Sheff Utd game. Very good idea I think. I got my mate a ticket for Forest as a birthday present. He loved the whole think and is now wanting to come to the away games as well!

Guys
Never mind if these free tickets lead on to season tickets - let's face it they're not.
What they will do is ensure that we continue to have gates over 20,000 and hopefully the noise that comes with that.
I would far prefer that free tickets are given away than to have stands half -empty.
It's a great idea form the Chairman, and I see it as a thank you to the Season Ticket Holder's as well.
Well done SJ.

Do not disagree with any of this, but still concerned that the right balance is struck so that pay on dayers (who are probably the most likely to convert to seasons) do not get so cheesed off that they stop coming (or paying).
It is a bit like sitting on a plane and finding out the couple sitting next to you got a cheap deal for the holiday you scrimped for and paid full price. That you can probably handle, but if half the plane are on free flights......! Poor analogy, but it's been a long day. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

My free tickets are also for Burnley - seems that Palace are doing it over two games though, so I wonder how they've worked it out ?
Alphabetically or by longest serving ticket holders ?

I've got my first season ticket this year, and haven't seen the letter yet (but heard about this from Oisin who has). Are they waiting to see how many tickets get bought for each game before sending out freebies, or are they sending them before they go on general sale?

Jordan is a business man. More bums on seats means more programmes, burgers, beers and even half time draw tickets to be sold. Get them in earlier and they will spend more.
More power to his wallet is what I say.

Surely you can't be suggesting that this is a bad thing for Palace?

I've got both the beer letter and the tickets and so has my mate who I sit with. Only trouble is, when they gave us free tickets last year, we both got two each for the same game, and I got my dad and three uncles in sitting next to each other. They had a good time, and were very grateful to me and the club. My dad and one of my uncles have been back a couple of times since (One even made it to Cardiff!). When I got two free tickets for the Barnsley game this season, I thought I would do the same again to try and convert the other two, only to find out that my mate, who sits next to me, and who applied for his season ticket on the same form as me, has got tickets for Sheffield United.
Bugger.

No I think it's great. Get the fans and the money in, generate interest, make Palace as big a part of people's lives and it must be good for the club which means I am happy.

Received two complimentaries for the Burnley game, which I can give away. They are in the Arthur Waite block s, anyone interested let me know at reedswood@hotmail.com
Well as I am not a season ticket holder I would dearly love a free ticket to both Sheffield and Burley!
Any kind souls out there who can help me out? If so e-mail me so as to avoid boring this list as I have! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I got my free tickets to the barnsley game on the same day that I received my season ticket.
Its a good idea to give these free tickets away. As someone said earlier. It doesnt lose the club money to give out free tickets as people will buy stuff at the ground so its all profit for the club.

I'll be giving my Barnsley tickets to the old man who'll bribe a customer with them. I look forward to the reaction of the customer when they hear the immense abuse that we are going to give that w@nker spiller.

Having already received a few kind responses from people and reading this thread a little further, can I just say that I would appreciate ANY free tickets (just one) to any game that you lucky lot have received!
I thought it was only Sheffield and Burnley...now we have Barnsley too?! Yes please!

It is done alphabetically as my dad has been a season ticket holder for a lot longer than me and is in anothe rpart of the ground yet his 2 tickets for Barnsley are next to my 2 tickets for barnsley. Hope this helps!

4 of my mates had free tickets for the forest game in the glaziers, they spent a fair amount over the bar before and after the game, and have now decided to go to as many home games as they can,as they feel the club is about to go places!!
so it IS working
Just got two to the Burnley game. Have given them to a mate of mine Mark, so he can take his son who is Palace mad cos I always used to take the little brat to matches.
Best thing is Marks a Wimbledon fan.

I think SJ would be better off lowering the prices than giving away so many freebies. It does p1ss me off knowing that I've paid for a season ticket and some people have got into the ground for nothing. I'm not slagging off the people these tickets go to but I think if SJ reduced admission prices from £17 to £10 we would get the same ammount of fans in the ground as we have had at the last 2 home games.

Ever heard "You've got to speculate to accumulate"?
Even the moaning Wombat can see what he's up to, and it was done last year and we had a couple of big attendances.

Mot so sure about that russell.
I do think that giving freebies away via season ticket holders is the preferable way of doing it, rather just in bulk to big firms.
But we need to whet some appetites and, although the tickets are free, people still have to spend their time coming.
On several threads I have read that people have given tickets to mates who have loved going..and I imagine this is especailly true for kids.
In the long run I think this is an excelllent form of price discrimination that all true Palace fans should be chuffed with.
It is the way Charlton have managed to attract increased support in the last few years..as have Sunderland. There is no doubt it will work and I am all for it.
RUSSELL
05-09-2000, 09:04 PM
I see your point Wombat, but how long do these freebies go on for?, is it just these 3 games or is it untill Christmas when you can then pick up a half season ticket for about £80ish thus seeing the same amount of games as me but only paying half the price!

Blarm,
I must be doing something wrong then!!!!!!...... Never mind. I am trying to sort out tickets for a couple of lads who tend to be more ‘armchair fans’ than anything. If it’s ok with you, I’ll take your last one, and perhaps somebody else has one more spare for the Barnsley game?
Thanks, ‘H’

If anyone has any spare tickets for the Sheff Utd game please let me know, I want to take a couple of people. I have two already for the arthur wait, I would like to sit with them but my season ticket is in Block B Holmsdale, and I don't fancy paying for a ticket in the arthur when I already have my season ticket.

And continuing the same theme...
I was sent 6 tickets for the Burnley game this Saturday and I thought I'd ask around at work (in Crawley) if anyone wanted them.
After nearly two days of no interest I've suddenly had requests for 8!!!
If anyone has 2 tickets for Saturday that they don't want...I'd be eternally grateful - especially as these will all be first-time attendees and they might come back again!
