playstation 2 is it worth the money?

after months of continuous nagging from my boys im seriously considereing buying the ps2, i was going to wait until the x box came out but now ive given in just for a quiet life , but before i part with my hard earned, id like to to know what what other people think, are there any decent footy games available for it , and what do you reccomend?

Ive had a playstatiom 2 since they first came out and i actually regret gettimg it ,there are hardly any decent games for it and the graphics are nowhere near as impressive as we were led to beieve (there have been rumours flying around for a while now that its very difficult to programme for and this eems to be apparent in the quality of the games available.
There are some decent games due out like Gran Tourismo(the best driving game ever),World Eleven (a decent footie game) and Metal Gear Solid(interactive movie style shoot em up) but on the whole its been a major dissappointment if i were you i'd wait for all the new machines to come out before choosing.

Unlike Ox, I like mine - Games such as Red Faction are great, with excellent graphics and an involving gameplay. Crazi Taxi and Quake III, as well as SSX are also great fun, and with the Gran Turismo 3 out next month, now may be the time to buy.

Wait a year or so for the XBOX to come out. That will be a kick up the arse for Sony and they will finally start making good games. At the moment, the PS2 only has the disastrous Dreamcast to compete with.
