How To Get There And Where To Park
The official Fulham web site says:
“Fulham Football Club recommends that all supporters travel to Craven Cottage by public transport. Supporters from visiting club's are advised to take advantage of their Club's official coach travel.”
By Car
From the North by car:
Exit M25 at junction 15 (s/p M4 Heathrow terminals 1,2,3 London (W) onto the M4 eastbound. Remain on the M4, which becomes the A4, following signs to central London for 10.4 miles to Hogarth roundabout.
Here, take the second exit (s/p central London, Hammersmith, A4) remain on the A4, passing the Griffin (Fullers) Brewery. At the Hammersmith flyover junction after 1.1 miles keep in left hand lane and exit the A4 (s/p Hammersmith (A306, A313,A219)
Follow signs to Oxford (A40) for 0.3 miles to T-Junction in front of Hayes accountants personal. This is the Hammersmith roundabout. Continue round roundabout for 0.3 miles to where road runs underneath and parallel to the A4 and turn left (s/p alternative route via Putney Bridge) into Fulham Palace Road.
Go straight on for 1.3 miles, and turn right into Bishops Park Road, which leads round to the ground.
From the south/south London, from Putney Bridge:
Over Putney Bridge, and after 0.1 miles go straight on at the junction / lights by the Pharoah & Firkin pub (s/p the West and West End) - at mini roundabout after 0.1 miles by the Kings head pub, go straight on into Fulham Palace Road. Ground is 0.2 miles on the left hand side.
Parking is possible in the streets around the ground but there are council parking meters there now, so make sure you bring some change, (60p per hour) and early arrival is advised. If you can’t find anything park south of the river and walk back over the Thames.
By Tube
The nearest tube station is Putney Bridge, which is on the District Line. 15 minute walk to Craven Cottage. Turn left out of the station and right down Ranelagh Gardens. At end of road (before passing the Eight Bells pub) turn left into Willow Bank, and immediately right through underpass into Bishops Park. Walk along river bank to ground. Please note: The Park is closed after evening games when supporters must walk via Fulham Palace Road.
Make sure you DON’T get off at East Putney tube station - as this is
completely at the other end of Putney.
Other public transport
From Croydon:
Train from East Croydon station to Clapham Junction. Walk across
to platform 5/6 and pick up the first train bound for Putney.
Upon exiting the station - you will find yourself at the top of
Putney High Street - straight opposite the Weatherspoon's pub
(The Railway) - the ground is approx 1 and a half miles away
(turn right out the station) - either a 25 minute walk down Putney
High Street / Fulham Palace Road (or a lot longer if you stop in a few pubs!) (or cross the road and catch the 74 bus which goes all the way down Fulham Palace Road).
Trains to Putney also run from Waterloo
By Bus:
The nos. 74 (from Baker St. Station to Roehampton) and 220 (from Harlesden to Wandsworth) both run along Fulham Palace Road.
From Sutton by bus:
Pick up the 213 bus outside the post office, heading for Kingston.
Get off at New Malden on the roundabout at Burlington Road (right
opposite the Fountain pub). Then get on the 265 bus - this takes you
all the way to Putney Bridge. The ground is then a 15 minute walk
down Fulham Palace Road, or through Bishops Park.
From Hammersmith by bus:
If you are travelling by tube to Hammersmith station (either via the
district, metropolitan or Piccadilly lines), pick up a 220 bus from
Hammersmith Broadway (upstairs in the indoor shopping centre, next to
the coca cola building). This will take you down Fulham Palace Road, get off
the bus at the next stop after the cemetery (on your left) - walk down
either Inglethorpe, Harbord or Finlay Street's (to your right) and
you’ll find the ground right in front of you. Alternately it's a 15 minute
walk down Fulham Palace Road, before turning off as suggested.
Where To Drink?
Some of the more traditional away pubs have now been designated home only. Many away fans are now using the pubs South of the River (across Putney Bridge) the nearer you get to Craven Cottage - the less likely you are to be let in.
Fulham supporters are a friendly bunch and wearing colours only presents a problem if you want to drink anywhere near the ground -
most pubs on the north side of Putney Bridge do not admit away fans - and even if
you are not wearing colours, you will still find it difficult to get in, since many only admit regulars. The majority will either have
a doorman - or a locked door awaiting you ! (this is not because of Palace - you'll find this at any home game).
Taking the approach into Putney via Upper Richmond Road (which means you turn left into Putney High Street), you have ...
At the junction of Upper Richmond Road and Putney High St. itself(right by the lights)
The Railway (Wetherspoon's)
The usual Wetherspoon's prices apply. Food of course is also available. However after a group of supporters were asked to leave last year - this may not be our favourite venue!
Opposite ...
The Fox (Whitbread)
Used to be the Fox and Hounds - but was converted into a trendy wine bar - was changed back to a pub/trendy bar again after that proved a disaster. Guinness, Carling, Fosters etc available, a bit upmarket. Food also served. Should be no problem getting in.
Into Putney High Street ...
First pub after Wetherspoon's is on your left hand side ..
The Rat And Parrot
Expensive drinks available on tap or by the bottle, once again food is served.
You should be able to get in here with no problem.
Then on your left you have Chelverton Road, and a short walk down here will lead you too ..
The Quill
Table football and darts available here (and pinball) - serves Guinness, Becks, Kronenbourg etc and has a decent jukebox and quiz machine too Again you should have no problem getting in - food should be available - but probably only as snack food and sandwiches.
Meanwhile if you continue down Putney High St ....
Next on the left hand side is ..
The Spotted Horse (Youngs) - I understand this pub is undergoing refurbishments currently.
(Fairly popular pub, used by home and away fans without any problems.
All the usual youngs beers, plus some others, and once again food should be available (sandwiches), also has Sky TV.
Next up (also on the left side)
on the corner of Felsham Street ..
Bar Monaco
Exactly the same as all the other Bar Monaco's, so that should tell you what to expect. You SHOULD be able to get in here OK - although it's not the biggest place in the world. Again - overpriced food and drink is available.
A few minutes on the left of Felsham Road, there is a nice Fullers pub, "The Jolly
Gardener" which also serves food, and shouldn't present too much of a problem to get into.
Just along from Bar Monaco you have ..
Whistle and Flute - formerly P.Shannon and Son 46-48 Putney High Street. Again - left hand side of Putney HS, Families welcome/disabled facilities. Open all day.
Should once again be fine to get in.
Just opposite is Putney Bridge Road where you'll find ..
The Castle
Another Youngs pub - the usual beers are available, and there's food on offer as well.
The last pub in Putney High Street itself (right opposite the cinema) is ..
The Slug and Lettuce
Another in a "chain" of pubs, scarce decor and expensive drinks, but you should get in OK although this was another where a group of palace supporters were asked to leave last year! A smart lively pub with an extensive menu.
Just around the corner (bear left into Lower Richmond Road) as you get to Putney Bridge, there are a couple more to choose from.
The Star and Garter is no longer there - instead it has been transformed into a very modern and trendy bar that caters to
riverside customers and may not be “football friendly”!
However - next to it - you will still find "The Duke's Head" - 8 Lower Richmond Road which is recommended for away fans and has nice views overlooking the River Thames and does good food. It is a Youngs pub that has a cosmopolitan atmosphere as it is located next to a number of rowing clubs. Allow twenty minutes to walk from the pub to the ground. Sandwiches, TV, table football. Families welcome. Open all day.
North of the River:
Crossing over Putney Bridge - there is immediately two choices although from here on in - it becomes more difficult to gain
admission.
"The Eight Bells" - 89, Fulham High Street is on the right as you cross the bridge, the first pub you come across if you come out of Putney Bridge Station. Free house. Small attractive traditional pub, with wooden panels and high backed benches. TV. Open all day. Food is also available, although sadly - you will most likely find the door shut, and you are unlikely to get in - although this one has been packed with Palace when we’ve played pre-season friendlies over recent years.
Also just over Putney Bridge on the Fulham Palace Road - near Putney Bridge Tube (on the left just past Bishop's park)you'll find "The Pharoah and Firkin". This is a very large pub, also with an upstairs area, and is similar in decor and style to the many
Firkin pubs you find. This pub gets used by fans frequently and you will find it very busy. Food is also available. It may still have a sign up saying home fans only as well as a couple of bouncers on the door but at the end of last season there were both home and away fans inside - it varies from week to week as to if they let anyone in - you can try, but you may find no admittance if the place is full. Although there are usually a lot of bar staff, it can take some time to get served.
"The King's Head" - 4, Fulham High Street. - again I understand this pub may be currently closed for refurbishment - I seem to recall it was indeed closed when we last played Fulham in April, it is actually an away fans pub - and you won't have any trouble getting in here ! - Renowned live music venue with a restaurant, conservatory and a tropical garden. Traditional pub food served from 10am. Two pool tables, big screen TV, open all day.
North of the ground is the Crabtree in Rainville Road - 10 mins away. Wide range of beers, garden and food service
For those people with seat tickets - there is a bar at the back of the stand - no such like in the terracing though.
FOOD:
Again plenty of choice from Putney High Street to Fulham Palace Road.
Starting at the top of the high street - next to the Fox and opposite the Railway - there is a kebab/burger place. There is also one opposite the Railway in the high street itself (located in Putney mainline station).
Walking down the high street - there are plenty of trendy cafe bars that do snacks and sandwiches. There is also a burger king (on the right, near the Spotted Horse pub) and a McDonald's (further down on the left). On the corner of Putney Bridge Road (opposite Bar Monaco) you will also find a Pizza Hut restaurant. Just past Shannon's there is also a fast food chicken place (not a KFC though I'm afraid). There is also Taboo - a turkish restaurant / takeaway, Cafe tabac - french style, La Mancha tapas bar and Bar Iberica
Over Putney Bridge, and down Fulham Palace Road, there is an indian restaurant just oppositethe Firkin, and then across from the King's Head, rather handily there is yet another fast food burger/kebab place.
Fulham High Street has ‘Tasty’s’ cafe/ takeaway - on the corner of Fulham Road - almost opposite that is Stravinsky’s cafe / restaurant with a brunch menu.
Fulham Road also has a tapas restaurant, sandwich bar and pizza express
Finally - if you miss all of that and are really hungry whilst walking down FP Road, is Kelssy Fried Chicken on the right hand side, just before you take one of the left turns to the ground.
There is also the ASK pizza and pasta restaurant and takeaway on Fulham Palace Road
