View Full Version : Is it time for the Palace travel club?

Since it came out we were only getting 800 tickets for boxing day and it is only one per season ticket holder is it now the time to start a Palace travel club? The idea would be similar to the way the England travel club works where points are given to supporters who make the journeys all over the country so that when it comes to games like Gillingham the tickets can be allocated first to members of the travel club with x amount of points, then to those with season tickets and so on. Yes this whole idea is just brief and would need alot of fine tuning but it would be handy for games that we are blatantly going to sell our alloaction.
Any views?

as somebody who goes to perhaps 4/5 away games per season can I ask how many games do we sell our allocation? (even fulham had spaces)
similar point made yesterday but is it worth the cost of administering such a scheme when it would only come into force for one or two games a season.
if you turn up week in week out you'll get your hands on a ticket somehow for the gills game. i bought mine yesterday and they still had 'hundreds left'. 99% regulars have a season ticket anyway.

Fair point it was just and idea that came to the otherday when people were chatting about gillingham and why they should be given priority.
I don't think the Fulham game was ever going to sell out as it was pissing down with rain and they can fit 4500-5000 away supporters. It may just turn out to be handy for if/when we get to the premiership and clubs are tight with their allocation, or if/when we get to division 2 and the away ends aren't big enough to hold all of us. eg imagine us playing again at Brighton they only fit in 600 but I'm sure we could take in the region of 10 times that there.

If we went down and Brighton go up, the away end at Withdean only holds 300!!!!!
If you can't get a ticket in the away end, why not "take" the home end - Man Utd do that almost everytime they play at Selhurst.
I can only remember Palace doing that at Southend and Luton, the year we won Division One. If you are desperate to see a game, you'd sit anywhere, even if you had to go in no colours and watch the game "quietly".

Dorking Eagle, is that you volunteering to lead the charge then when we next play Brighton? :S

When I said "take the home end" I meant fill it with Palace fans - not steam into the a-la North Bank (Arsenal)'79.
I don't think I would volunteer to "lead the charge" against Brighton either, certainly not if there were only 300 Palace against 5700 Seaweeds! (I think that is quite different to retaining my right to defend myself and fellow Palace fans from physical attacks from Brighton!)
Anyway, back to the main topic of this thread, that being the occasional need for a fairer away ticket priority system. Heavily influenced by old Noasey's "Phase" system from the 1990 Cup Final, I have come up with the following four phases of priority.........
First, PHASE ONE. Either Season Ticket Holders who are also Golden Eagles Club Members
or
Season Ticket Holders who can show three away ticket stubs from the previous 12 calendar months
Then PHASE TWO = Either Supporters who can produce three away ticket stubs from the previous 12 calendar months
or
Season Ticket Holders
or
Golden Eagles Club Members
PHASE THREE = Palace Club Members (who do not fall into an earlier catagory)
PHASE FOUR = General Sale
I would be interested in other people's comments on the above. Hopefully no one will claim "My Grandad saw them at The Nest, but doesn't qualify for a ticket" which was the sort of tripe we were peddled in the papers in the weeks before the FA Cup Final!!
does'nt really matter now for this year, gillingham was the only game that was going to be a serious problem, maybe portsmouth and watford as very slight problems if we need the points badly.
What we need is not just a system that helps us but helps the club as well, a system that encourages people.
A voucher system would be ideal where a class A game such as Huddersfield away and bolton away etc earn you ten points per class A game.
class B could be midlands area(worth 5points)
class C could be london derbies and cheap games such as watford+portsmouth(worth maybe 1 point.
This system would encourage clever people who really want tickets for the priority games to go to the class A games when normally they would not bother.
If the club had promised a gillingham ticket to anyone with a voucher proving they had been to bolton maybe we would have taken an extra 100-200ish up there. if people miss out because they did not have enough points or vouchers they will go more often.
( cue the backlash)

That's the sort of ideas I had in mind as well. The fact that we shouldn't have too many problems with allocations this year is perfect as they could try and sort out any teething problems.

What about season ticket holders who have to pay their money up front and also go to away matches,be it not all of them,or only a few,how can you say they do not deserve a ticket? Or are we getting back to this who`s a real supporter scenario? l have my tickets for Gillingham, and would have been pretty dissapointed if l hadn`t seeing that`s where l live, l could not have stood being so close (about 10 mins by car)and not being there.l agree with you Dorking in part.

me and jamie w and xian had to go in the qpr end for that game,
but Dazza in a strange sick kind of way does'nt make you feel good knowing those people who nicked "your tickets" so to speak had their one and only day out ruined because we took a beating.

Gizmo, i take it your a season ticket holder then and you would probably feel upset if your tickets for the gillingham game had gone to a 2-3 games per seasoner, gutted springs to mind. Well its the same principle for people who go all the away games but worse. Anyway the system would mean that all you had to do was go to one class A game and you would have yer ticket, using the current system you could easily lose out next year, this system would help you not hinder you.

As Gillingham is likely to be the only game at the moment that would cause any problems - it's not really urgent (although considering how many we took to oxford on boxing day a couple of seasons ago there may be problems with lack of tickets for the priestifield.
However -I have mentioned this before. When we were playing man u away in the premier league - it was a case of season ticket holders first come first served - given that we have 10,000 ST's there should surely be some system where by the people who attend most away games should get priority - there could be pages in the season ticket to get stamped for pre-booked away tickets (although for pay on the day games this would prove difficult) but although it's unlikely to be a problem this season - if one day we are back in the premier being successful and we start getting to the point where demand exceeds availablity then something will need to be set up.

When we've got a 1,000 die-hard go everywhere regulars, then we should start to think about voucher schemes. For 150-odd it just doesn't stack-up - sorry, but it just doesn't.
What are these regulars expecting? To roll up at the Blackburn home game (i.e. 3 days before) and get a ticket for Boxing Day. Don't be so daft, they'll all have got one this week. If the price you pay for watching Palace every week, home and away is having to be a bit clued up as to when tickets go on sale, then so be it - it not really a hradship is it? Some people seem to want to be spoon-fed at times.
Can we move on from this, please?
