Well Mr Jordan and Mr Smith have spent well so far:

Craig Harrison (M'Borough £200k)
Jamie Pollock (ManCity £650k)
Neil Ruddock (West Ham £Undisclosed)
Julian Gray (Arsenal £250k)
Tommy Black (Arsenal £250k)

Total Spent: 1.4-1.5m UKP
Total Sales: 100k (Rizzo)

5 First team players for less than 1.5m- he certainly isn't Goldberg in that respect- let's just hope he hasn't signed away the future in huge wage bills http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

i'm sure he hasn't! he seems a very clever guy! i'm sure he wouldn't have signed the players if it meant raisin the wages too much!

Couldn't agree more Dave - for what it seems we've spent, I think we've got some great additions to the squad.

I also think it's totally correct to refuse to up the offer for Beattie. I don't care how much "potential" Saints fans think he has or how great our need is perceived to be - there is no way in the world that a fee of 3 million could be justified and we've been down that road before.

I was one of those who was very unhappy about Stevie going and I was also highly sceptical of Smith's credentials - although I did say that he would have my support.

At this stage, I think he's done at least as well and probably better than most of us expected. We might be languishing a bit too near the foot of the table now but most of us seem to believe (me included) that with a bit of luck and the wind behind us, we could actually challenge for a play-off spot this season.

Keep up the good work Messr's Jordan and Smith.

And not playing too much hoofball either. We can play it through midfield too these days.

Tommy Black is buy of the millenium though, he's the kind of player we love to watch, steaming into the heart of defence - he'll set up a load this season. I've a feeling that Grimsby, Pompey and Naarrrrch are in for another thumping !!!

It's nice to see a few positive comments about what's been going on. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

It really does so far seem like money well spent - and on the performances so far it seems to be working well.

Let's hope it continues in the same vein.

On reflection the firsthalf againstNF was reminicent of the SC reign, long ball over the top or into the channels. THe second half was mutch for constructive. Tommy Black whatan insperation.

I just wonder how it took him so long to show what he can really do, or if it was a once off?

Bud Eagle, did you go to the CPFC vs. QPR game. He played just as well then, as he did against Robin Hoods cr@p team.

I think we should pull out of beatie offer tottally. The situation is reminiscent of the Lee Bradbury transfer. Played well for Pompey, then cr@p for Man City, and we bought him after that.

Beatie played well for Blackburn, is playing poorly for Southampton, andy we are trying to sign him.

Cottee to me would be a good idea. He may be old, but for 200,000 pounds, I think he would be a bargain. He is a natural goalscorer, and scored about 12-15 goals last season.

Other forwards to consider:

Ian Moore- may sound stupid, but he can score goals, as seen on Nationwide League Extra.

Matt Le Tissier- probably cost less, and not bad at scoring goals.

Tresor Lua Lua- Good player, but wanted by premiership teams.

Daniel Dichio- out of favour at sunderland

Tommy Johnson- scores, and out of favour.

i agree the transfers so far have been very promising. but if we are looking at spending 2 - 3 million on a striker are there any better candidates than beattie? recent threads have generally come out in favour in marcus bent. is he in this bracket? how do the two players compare? is this a different thread?

Well now that they have come up with amazingly stupid idea to ablolish transfer fees maybe we can sign many more really quality players and just send the clubs a tin of "Roses" for "Compensation"!!!

Agree with all the above comments that it is money sensibly spent and wisely invested so far - now if ONLY we can get those two strikers !!!

The fee for Ruddock was apparently 100k - which is a real bargain !

I agree that the signings so far have been excellenty (although I still have my doubts about Harrison). The priorities now are surely a permenant keeper (I'd love to get Taylor, but can't see it, and a striker to givbe us some Physical presence. FOr this reason, I think that Cottee is a wrong move. Although he is probably still a good goalscorer at 1st division level, and well worth the £200k that is apparently being asked, he is simply to similar to what we already have.

Beattie would bwe a great move, but is simply to expensive, so perhaps an experienced short term signing is the answer while we bide our time scouring the lower divisions etc. Wayne Allison is available at £250k apparently, and while by no means the best player in the world, methinks that he would do a job and represent good value, as he has a good record in this division ovber a number of years . . . ..any thoughts? ? ?

Absolutely HarryH. I hate to point this out, but as far as I can tell, Smith has only made two signings so far: Pollock and now Harrison. The others were all signed before Coppell left, and therefore A.S. had nothing to do with them.

So, now what do you all think?

All good signings so far. Most people would agree that Ruddock,Pollock,Black and Gray have done well and i believe Harrison will have proved the doubters wrong by christmas.
All this and Foster off the wage bill. Can't be bad http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think Razor was a fantastic signing for only 100k but I heard from a reliable source he is on massive wages, at least 3 times higher than what we have ever paid anyone.

It's been posted before, he is on 1 Million over three years which is around £6,400 per week. Far less than some of our TV signings and certainly not 3 times as much as any previous players.

Jesus Christ - As far as I know Lombardo was on £19K - this means that Ruddock is on 'at least' £57K A WEEK !!

No wonder he looks keen!

Whether or not the new players were on Stevie's mind before he left or not Smithy's done well to find players that can generally integrate well into the team. We're all talking about £2-3M for a striker but who would of thought Gray, Pollock, Black, Taylor, Ruddock and Harrison would prove so successful so soon. And all for £1.5M the lot.

Let's not forget what the scorelines could of been if we didn't have them. Even if we're 17th we're on the up and up!

i don't know where you are getting your info from, but you've got the cost wrong.

gray and black cost 500k EACH, and ruddock 100k.

can't argue your sentiments on any of them - i think we are yet to see the best of harrison or gray.

that left side will look great in 4-4-2 formation.......

i'll get my coat.......

Gray and Black are initially costing us 250k each with another 250k each depending on appearances
