I was at the Monday Night fans night last night, and the mini box office they had there was giving away FREE coach travel to Grimsby. The players are paying for it apparently. This is not connected to the free travel in lieu of Preston, simply a first come first served offer, with the players paying for a few coach loads only. This coach trip would normally cost £16, so hurry, hurry, hurry! (Coach leaves Holmesdale Road 7.45 am!)

I was there and yes it's true. The Players are paying for coaches to Grimsby on a first come first served basis.
Again, this could come down to the fact that regular people who go may miss out whilst people who go once in a blue moon do go and get the special offer.
I still feel it should be offered to regulars first and then what's left after can go on general sale.
I feel it's only fair.

I think it should be pointed out as well that most of us DON'T use the coaches. They always leave far too early - and again most of us don't live near Selhurst Park which means that you'd need to get up at about 5am for it to be of any use !

arussel, i think the reason we leave early is so we can actually make it to the game!
On several occasions so far this season and last despite leaving between 7.30-9.00 depending on where we're going we still only arrive at the ground with 10 minutes to spare.
i.e Preston,Bolton,Blackburn,Burnley
Most who travel on the coaches think it should probably leave earlier than what it already does!!!

I think our previous two posters have misunderstood what's being said here.
The problem is - the coaches leave always at the same time more or less (regardless of where they're going) and stop off for too long there and back.
I think the Cardiff coach got back to Selhurst at half past two in the morning (!) - whilst we were back in London in the car just after midnight !
The answer to this one is simple chaps. Organise your own coach and driver. Leave when you want, return when you want. Stop off at the pub if you want....
Not rocket science.
BBS Travel club coach or something....

No way am i moaning as i think it's a very nice cesture to offer free coach travel paid by the player and i will be going to Selhurst first thing tomorrow to get my tickets, hopefully the offer will still be available.
On the point of the coaches arussell, we always stop for about an hour on the way, either at a service station but mainly a pub.
Also when we went to Burnley, the driver got lost and we ended up back at Selhurst at 4.10 am and that was after leaving Burnley at 9.50!
we often use a coach firm run by a real nice geezer called Jerry. You can smoke, drink, play what music you want. He'll stop anywhere and at anytime to let you piss (really). He'll pop off and get you crates of beer for the return journey, and tend to the wounded...... er....

Funny enough, I've just finished collting comments sent to Palace Echo about the state of the current coach service provided by Dunn-Line this season. It is isn't pleasant reading - the problems go way, way beyond what's been brought up here.
I was shocked at how badly its declined under new management and have nothing but sympathy for the beleaguered coach regulars.
A free trip to Grimsby certainly isn't going to put things right.

maybe they need some travel directions!!! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif
seriously - they did mention at the golden eagles agm that the players wanted to do something like this as a gesture to the fans. Seems like a good idea to me.
As for the time take - coaches always take longer - speed limitations etc - even without a stop off - are there not rules that mean coach drives need a certain amount of rest time?
agree what neil says about the problems though - have spoken to several people who haven't been happy about the new company. Coaches have arrived late on several occassions leaving fans standing in the rain waiting - and have consequently left late meaning a late arrival at the ground (As has already been mentioned) Several people have written to Simon Jordan - maybe the timing of this gesture is in lieu of some of these problems although as neil said it does need to be looked at more than that.

Agree with your first points Lightweight - of course it should take a bit longer and yes of course the driver needs a bit of a break.
There is also a bit of politics at the club about this at the moment as well isn't there. Jordan seems keen to get everyone onto the coaches and is trying to phase out the good service that Chris and Gildo provide with the train tickets (already he has stoppped them selling match tickets for away games from the portakabin).
what about the bbs organising coach trips to midweek away games, it would offer an alternative to people who normally drive,
you would only need 25-30 people to make it profitable and all money could go to the bbs.
if you used epsom coaches they could have drop off points at selhurst, croydon, sutton and epsom as its on route after the game.

Mrs Rashid and I got our Grimsby match tickets after the Tranmere match, and the free coach ticket offer was still valid. Had to fill in a form and now awaiting docs by post, but we did not get the impression that the allocation was close to being exhausted.
