cant see it listed anywhere else , but brighton won the £250,000 from coca-cola to buy a player .

what with west ham going up as well , what a great day monday was :grrr:

Brighton have received a massive boost with the news that they will have £250,000 to buy a new player courtesy of a Coca-Cola competition.

The Football League's main sponsors launched a competition at the start of the campaign - with fans invited to register their names to go forward into a draw at the season's close.

An impressive 1,092,110 million entries were received in the Coca-Cola Win A Player promotion but it was Brighton fan Aaron Berry that had the lucky ticket.

Aaron registered every day throughout the competition's 80 day duration and has been rewarded for his loyalty by winning the lucrative first prize of a new player for his favourite club.

Brighton chairman Dick Knight was presented with a cheque from Aaron before the Coca-Cola Championship play-off between West and Preston - with the Seagulls fanatic adamant about where he wanted the money to be spent.

"This is the most amazing moment of my life,'' said Aaron.

''I’ve supported Brighton all my life and watched them suffer through many difficult times so to win £250,000 to spend on some new players is a dream come true.

"I’d love us to buy a striker, but I have faith in the gaffer and will back whatever decision he makes."

Steve Cumming, sponsorship manager of Coca-Cola said, "The idea of the Win A Player promotion was to reward fans by giving them the chance to have a direct involvement in their club - something that by winning the promotion Aaron will be able to do.

''The response we’ve seen from the fans has been incredible. To see over a million votes come in 80 days is staggering and shows that football fans really are passionate about their favourite club."

Meanwhile, Brighton supremo Knight was equally delighted with the news as he concluded: "It’s a beautiful day down here, but it’s just got even sunnier."

Aaron will also receive a personal cheque for £10,000 for his part of the prize.

Yes, its part of the terms and conditions so they have no choice.

Who needs £250,000 when we just recieved about £25million from a year in the Premier + Parachute payment :p

Most of us that were online were registering every day for the 80 days.

I could have done with the 10K :p still not complaining. At least the club got the money.

The Leeds fans registered the most votes and are really bitter about it. Some of them thought it was the highest club vote that got the player instead of being a completely random draw. :)

I read this today. Bloody typical it is them. £250,000 is nothing though really, maybe they could put it towards a decent ground?

It may be nothing to a club like yours but to us, with hardly any income due to restrictions on attendance and having to pay out £3 million in legal fees fighting for a new ground, it is a lifeline.
We have actualy got some money to get a new player now instead of picking up freebies, other team rejects, and our youth squad (and still beating Sunderland, West Ham, Leeds, Leicester and Forest)
