View Full Version : The match before Xmas

I notice that the Blackburn game has been moved to the Friday night before Chrismas, rather than the Saturday. Is this really a good move. Surely the vast majority of our fans wouldn't go Christmas shopping rather than go to a match. Most of our fans are season ticket holders and wouldn't be so daft- would they.
Isn't the Friday the last working day before Christmas and everyone will be having drinks after work, or even office parties. Its my office bash and I'll be legless long, long before kick off. (I ve always had too much by lunch time let alone the evening).
It looks like it will be the first home match missed for years. Short of telling me daft things like don't get drunk can anyone offer me any comfort.

Well said Forever Stripes. This has happened elsewhere before but I don't remember Palace's games being disrupted by feckin shopping before. I wonder if this has more to do with the greed of Croydon's shop keepers then Palace's concerns about fans foresaking football for very last minute shopping?

Bets thing then, Forever Stripes, is to come along to the bbs Christmas bash, that way, there will be fellow Palace fans to ensure you get to the game.

The reason for the switch seems to be a request from Sainsburys in order to avoid them having to close early on the last full shopping day before Xmas. However I am amazed that the league even considered a full fixture list so close to Xmas, while the boxing day fixtures are always well attended, the games in the last two weeks prior to Xmas are always poorly attended. It would have made sense to have finished on the 16th, played on Boxing day, then had a two/three week winter break as they do in Europe. The Xmas period is never a good one for Palace anyway.
