What a surprise, the chance of a half decent size crowd and we get charged full price for our tickets. I must say I am more than a little p***ed off with that move.

I really feel as if the club are taking the p*** out of those who put their money where their mouth is...........that is the season ticket holders.

How many of those at Tranmere the other night chose to come as the result of what they had seen, having had one of Mr. Jordans freebies, not many I bet. The bulk of that crowd would have been made up of season ticket holders and those who attend on a regular basis but choose to buy tickets on a match to match basis, in other words paying customers.

I appreciate the logic behind free tickets and all the other marketing stunts Jordan has been performing, but personally I am getting a little sick of seeing people getting to watch football for free when I and so many others have paid up front for it.

Now to rub salt into that wound, the prices for this game are upped. It seems that we are being taken for granted by our new leader. This would be the ideal time to say thank you to those who showed faith by buying season tickets and match tickets. Something along the lines of produce your stub for the Tranmere match, and your ticket will cost you £10. for the youngstes, £2.

No doubt we will be rewarded later in the season with a "buy one get the next free" type offer on tickets, of course this is a very useful offer to someone who holds a season ticket, as does his family and his mates etc, etc.

I am writing to the club to express my unhappiness with this one. I will post any reply I might get.

Given it's a cup quarter-final against premier opposition, charging the regular price seems ok to me. And don't forget we season ticket holders are getting the equivalent of the Tranmere match ticket off any purchases from the club shop.

Yes Spike, your observation with respect to getting the money for the Tranmere ticket back via the club shop is fine - it is a pretty good deal.

But what about suckers like me that have a significant journey to Selhurst? I have a season ticket, I made the journey up for the Tranmere game - but I live in Bournemouth (I appreciate that this is pretty stupid, but then you don't choose your football team do you?). It costs me thirty quid to get to each game.

The discount in 'ye olde clubbe shoppe' does not apply on any matchdays - so although I'll be travelling up for the Wimbledon match on the 5th Dec and the Watford game on 9th, I won't be lashing out a further thirty quid that week so that I can save fifteen buying a red'n'blue furry gonk from the club shop.

I don't doubt that Simon Jordan means well, and I applaud his initiatives in 'giving something back to the fans' but like the cheap beer, perhaps the deal with respect to the Tranmere tickets isn't the best thought out thing the club has come up with.

Still, I suppose you can't please all the people all the time - and it won't deter me from getting tickets to the Sunderland game.
I am willing to concede that reducing the cost of tickets for what will undoubtedly be another significant night in the club's distinguished history might be a bit misguided... but I don't know where I'll find the money for my lucky red'n'blue furry gonk (or mountain bike, duvet cover, etc. etc.) as well. Perhaps we should have got knocked out against Tranmere, then I could have saved twenty quid by not buying a Sunderland ticket and spent that in the club shop instead.

No wonder they call economics the dismal science (or is that statistics?)

Don't instantly blame Palace or Jordan for the prices.
In Cup games the receipts are split between the teams and Sunderland have to agree to reduced prices.
For the Burnley and Tranmere Cup games this season, both Palace and the opposition agreed on reduced prices.

Anyway, why do you expect the prices to be lower than normal. How many times, does the local pub, resturant or theatre lower it's prices, when the demand is likely to be high?

Blimey young Willie, you have put yourself in an difficult position. If you won't pay 20 quid for a quarter final then you will have a heart attack and boycott Wembley in February as well!

You're wrong about those who had one of Jordan's freebie's on Saturday and did not go to Tranmere. In fact I brought 2 others with me for that game and I have bought 12 tickets for the Watford game. I have not bought a season because I cannot guarantee being there every week. But I do agree with you about the prices, especially as the game is live on Sky.

As someone has pointed out, the ticket prices are not just down to Jordan, and I doubt a premier league team would want to reduce ticket prices, they need the money to pay their players.
I am one of those unfortunate ones who pay for their tickets on a match by match basis, and I dont feel like Im having the piss taken out of me. To put it into perspective, if say Noades had come in and "rescued" us, I doubt the beers would be the price it is, the tickets would be the price they are, and so on and so forth. So I dont really feel aggreived.
Concerning the freebies, well I got hold of a free ticket for someone and his daughter, and now his daughter regularly comes with me to the matches when I take my kids. A future Palace fan, who otherwise might have followed the rest of her family into supporting another London team miles away from us.
Perhaps we are so used to getting the cup tickets at cheap prices, that is why we feel pissed off when we dont?
This is after all a quarter final, against a premier league team, and it is also a chance for the club to earn a bit of revenue. And when we have claimed yet another Premier league scalp, it will have all been worth while... http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif

The point about sunderland agreeing on the prices is valid, however, my sunderland mate assures me they charged a tenner for the man u game. I would therefore be surprised if it was down to them...remeber £18 quid + a day off work and 12 hours travelling is a bit much.

I too am a little disappointed about this, as much from the club's prespective as anything.

This is a wonderful opportunity to market the club. Make all tickets a tenner, advertise the bollox off it and lets a get a full house for the TV cameras...and if we won..wow.
If ever there was a good opportunity to get the punters in I would have thought this was it.

I thought that the discount for the Tranmere tickets in the shop was available any day up until Christmas Eve - It's just that on several other days there's additional discount, player visits, competitions etc.
Anybody know the correct details ??

They'll be complaining that the burgers arn't free next and that there isn't a fiver inside every programme.

Some people are never satisfied.

I'm never satisfied, always complaining and picking holes in people, cantakerous (ask my Uncle Trolley), irritable, unreasonable, impossible to please, and I complain from dawn till dusk.

Now...still want to give me your number? !!!

Just a thought about Sunderland only charging a tenner for the Moan Utd match. If they sold out, which is likely they would have taken something approaching £450k plus programme sales, refreshments etc. If we sell out on the 12th and sold every ticket at £17.00, which we won't as kids, students and OAP's get in for a £5.00 then we would still only take £442k on the gate. So Sunderland can afford to charge a lower price and still make more money. Which is why dear old Ron, bless him was at least right on one thing with out a 40k seater we are always going to struggle to keep up. Anyway I am happy to pay full wack, if the kids, students and OAP's get in at a good price. The kids are the future and the OAP's deserve it for following our shower all these years.

I am still pretty much bemused about the ticket arrangements for the match. I think I understand supply and demand, but this seems to me to be an example of elasticity of demand.

1:Ticket prices will be higher than normal for many home fans, given the withdrawal of discounts.
2:The club has decided -in advance- that the whole AW stand will be given over to Sunderland.
3:All AW regulars are going to be lobbed out into other areas of the ground, which alternative seating will necessarily be unavailable for non Season Ticket fans.
4:As posted above, ticket prices for Sunderland are far in excess of what they are used to.
5:The match is being televised on Sky.

If I am missing something please walk me through it, but everything appears to be shaping up for a "stay-away, watch it on television" occasion.
Rather than having fortress Selhurst, I can only envisage a half empty AW gazing over a half empty rest of the ground.

BTW, If both clubs are presumably being well paid by Sky, why, other than greed- sorry-maximisation, can they not agree to reduce ticket price?

Confused of Kent.

can you use your £15 discount on your sunderland ticket instead of buying junk from the club shop, surely this makes more sence.

You're right on this one. You need your match ticket stub and voucher F from your season ticket book and the offer is valid any day up till xmas eve. Bloody good offer if you ask me.

On the contrary, I don't expect anything for nothing. I have already paid for my season ticket, I have bought my tickets for the Sunderland, as I did for the previous ties, and I will continue to buy tickets as we progress. My point is not that I want something for nothing, or that I think I deserve it, it is this, the offer made to those who purchased Tranmere tickets (I presume as a thank you gesture, is a good deal, if, and only if, you are going to use the club shop. If you are not then it is meaningless. I feel that a better way of doing something for the fans would be to offer something off the tickets for the Sunderland match, working on the theory that the vast majority of those at the Tranmere game would probably be going to the Sunderland match as well.

As for free tickets attracting new people, I stand by what I said, very few return. to those who have I say well done.
