I bought CM 00/01 about 5 months ago, but havent installed it until recently, i started with Palace...but as you can see below, i need some help! Ive tried changing tactics, formation, positions etc...

Thats probably part of the problem. If you start off badly and then chop and change it all just gets worse and worse. Im not a CM guru like some here but pick one and stick with it.. perhaps something a little more defensive than what your results are suggesting you have.

Palace's defenders are dire so have a look and see who you can buy. A cheap reliable one is usually Paul Dillon (from Rotherham I think). I usually have to play Zhiyi at the back with Woozley, sometimes Linighan.

Unfortunately with those kind of results I think you'll be sacked faster than you can say Alan Smith. :D Happens to the best of us..

If you get really pissed off just edit the game.

As well as Dillon other defenders worth getting are Dulio Davino ,Ronnie Wallwork and Stephen Foster. Keep Woozley.
My best formation is 4-1-2-1-2. IE back four, defensive midfielder just in front of them (try Tommi Gronlund), two attacking wingers and an attacking midfielder/Forward in the hole behind the front two.
Finally as most CMERS on here i'm sure will echo - break the bank for Tonton Zola Mokouko!

It seems to me that you're trying to survive on the relatively crap squad that you started with. You can't win that way.

Sell everyone except Fan, Ruddock (proof this is a game, not a simulation), Pollock, Black, Morrison, Woozley (3 future stars)and maybe Linighan (you get nothing for him), Rodger, Mullins and Smith. Also keep Kendall, though he's on loan for the first season. Then send your scouts to Scandanavia, Scotland and Greece for bargin price studs who will join Palace. Don't get patriotic and buy English at first, they're generally over-priced for what you get, though you will need stars later and then English-based players (and Dutch and German) are cheaper than Italian or Spanish.

I've had tons of success with Ian Ross, Iain Durrant, Alan Archibald, Marcus Allback, Mikael Dannielsson, Andreas Andersson, Johan Andersson, Dionisis Chiotis, Scott Walker, Matthas Jonson, Ian McCaldon, Alan Combe and Per Nilson but the greatest ever buy is always Kennedy Bakircioglu. If you get him for anything less than 10M, he's a bargain. In my current game I got him for 250K (minimum release clause -- avoid those when negotiating contracts) and, after 4 seasons he has scored over 100 goals (from the midfield!) and is valued at 20M.

My formation is usually 4132 but using all midfielders for zonal marking instead of just two and direct passing for the first couple of seasons, while the levels of some players' technique and passing are still low, then switch to short passing. The end result is that after I've had Palace for five seasons and in the last one alone won eight trophies (3rd successive Premiership, 1 Uefa and 2 Champions league in the last three years.) Eagles Rule.

Thanks for the help, im playing 442 attacking at the moment, does sound a bit stupid considering i need some defence, i think ill stick with these players and just buy a few throughout the season and try to defy all odds and start winning (if i dont get sacked first)

Haha, doesnt really work though, the players get all unhappy superfast and going AWOL.

Usually when I edit, its just to make players more 'accurate' as it were.. Morrisson 20's for shooting, running etc and also adding a couple of star youngsters like Amoako, Cronin, Borrowdale..

Morison 20 for shooting? I normally give him about 16...

Switch the PC on and off again. If its in a bad mood you'll lose every game but sometimes you'll get successive promotions- its very erratic.

Didnt seem to work anyway - he was still crap.

First time around I edited really carefully.. making attributes exactly what I thought they should be. The game crashed after a few weeks so now I just change as little as possible as effectively as possible and the game hasnt crashed. (yet).
