So which console/handheld is going to take over the world?
Or will the old favourates continue to shine?

You Decide

I was having a meal with a couple of friends on Friday, and one of them had bought it that day, but hadn't been home to play on it and he wanted to just stand up, walk out and play on it.

I'm waiting till the XBOX and GameCube come out to see what sony do to the PS2 price, bofore i make any choice.

So looks like I'm stuck with the N64 till i get some money

There would have been a time when I knew what you were talking about. Then I realised that I needed all my money for beer.

Well for the time being Im sticking with my Dreamcast, as I think it has the best line up available at this moment in time.

The Playstation2 has been a major dissapointment in my eyes, the graphics are not spectacular, and whilst it is capable of producing 90m odd polygons, it has such poor amount of display memory that its theoretical maximum is 6m. The dreamcast can do less still, but it only draws the ones that are actually visable and so graphics wise they are pretty much the same.

The Gamecube looks nice, and I see a whole host of developers are queing up to develop for it.

In the end though I see X-Box winning.

Microsoft don't tend to like losing, I don't see any change here. X-Box will rule.

I've played the PS2 and to be honest I thought it was very mediocre! Watching DVD's on it is crap to because the bloody fan is sooooo noisey!

Agree, the DVD player is lame. It has awful picture quality, and the sound isnt a patch on even £99 dedicated DVD players.

GT3 is ok, but it has less cars than the original I understand, and for me the best racer on any platform is Metropolis Street Racer.

I have.

I prefer Metropolis Street Racer.

The best technical racer is Le Mans 24hr on DC. The polygon count is the highest in any racing game.

Do you not get bored playing a game for 24 hours ;)

I was talking with some people with a bit more knowledge, and apparently the only reason Microsoft get people to make games, is by paying them, as the GameCube is the easiest to program

I have to agree with this. The Dreamcast is currently the best system on the market for a load of decent games, value (I've got 12 decent ones and I've paid less than a tenner for almost all of them) and the fact that it has great games of every style is a plus as well.
(except no Champ Manager! :grrr: )

Shoot me down if you will! ( I used to own a Saturn)

XBox - hopefully no way. It's all built on hype - all the games being produced look as lacklustre and uninspired as anything. It's also almost bound to be beset by nasty problems because of it's design and the fact it's got a harddisc. I shall steer well clear, and I expect it won't do as well as some people and Microsoft are hoping and expecting.

I think we'll see a continuation of the Playstation/Nintendo situation, with the GameCube probably making up a lot more ground than their previous console. GC looks superb, is supposed to be very easy to develop for and has got loads of people producing games for it.

PlayStation 2 has it's problems, technically-speaking, and is difficult to develop for, but has the advantage of being backwards-compatible and being a natural console for Playstation-owners to advance to.

Oh, and the hand-held war's already been won by the Gameboy Advance.

Cant see the Gamecube losing out, the Xbox is too expensive, has little Japanese support and launches at a higher price point a few days later than Gamecube.

Interestingly, importers are already quoting UK early adopters HIGHER prices for the gamecube than the X-Box, even though the Gamcube will retail for $100 dollars less.

As for the PS2, I actually bought the first imported retail machine from CEX many, many moons ago. I finally flogged it to a Japanese chap in York after I realised that it had an extremely thick layer of dust on it, no games worth playing and was basically a pile of cack taking up space under my telly.

Currently the DC and GBA are the biz, and I even got my N64 out of storage for a blast on Perfect Dark and some mario karting !

what a strange thought, one of the best, if not the best game on the N64

Many hours are spent on Zelda, another great game on the N64 :D

the gamecube is pretty cool. though the lack of games is annoying at present.

I have all 3 titles.

I heartily reccomend a game of Monkey Billiards, where you er..... play 9 ball with a monkey in a ball. Monkey fight is good too. You control a monkey in a ball with a giant boxing glove.....

Is the DVD player on the PS2 really rubbish?

I don't have a DVD player and it was one of the justifying reasons to upgrade from my PS1.

It's rubbish Kev.

If you wait a little longer you can get the Panasonic Gamcube/DVD hybrid....... and it looks cool too.

Bought PS2 with GT3 and TIF 2002 at the weekend and my first impressions are not bad. Perhaps not what I was expecting baring in mind all the hype that came with the machine. As football games goes TIF2002 is one of the best. For the £250 I parted with I was expecting a little more. The feature, which allows you to play DVDs, is a big plus in my view.
One game I played yesterday, that I thought was fantastic was the "Italian Job" based on the film, it was very addictive. Keep an eye out for it.

Have you watched any DVDs on it Mark?

PS2 has advantages because I have so many PS1 games that I still love. Plus isn't a new version of ISS Pro Evolution coming out on the PS2 soon. Plus I hear GT3 is the nuts.

I watched american pie yesterday, just to check out how the additional features work. To skip scenes you click on the r1 button located at the top of the pad. Its very simple to work.

GT3 is good but at present I don't have a memory card which makes it frustrating as all gaming play is lost.

As for TIF2002 checking out the palace side, I was interested to see they have included Bruce as manager, yet Digby and Ruddock are still in the team. No Kolinko in the squad either!!
