That should give us some ammunition for banter at the end of the season. http://85.234.132.19/images/smilies/laughcont.gif

Sky Sports News Flash!

'....and finally heres a message to all the away supporters travelling south for their game against Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon, we've just heard that the game has been called off! A spokesman for the club said that they had tried effortlessly to get the game to go ahead, but, unfortunately, the tide came in!

What was it Jordan said?

“We will start well and we will be top of the league. We will be. I guarantee you, we will be at the top of the league.

“I expect us to win the league. I want us to win the league. I think we have the best manager in the country in Iain Dowie and we have signed one of the best players. We are not playing, we are serious. We are ambitious.

“We’ve strengthened and, with no disrespect to last year’s team, we’ve got a stronger side in the Championship than we had in the Premiership.

“Iain said, ‘It starts now. On the first day of the season, the first team we play will pay for today’.

The first team we play will pay for our relegation

Those of you who have been around long enough will remember us being relegated from Div 1 in 1973 and a certain Malcolm Allison making big statements to the press and anyone else who would listen about how we were going straight back up again, how we would be Division 2 Champions etc etc in a very similar vein to what our own chairman has said. Lo and behold, the first game of the following season arrived, against Notts County, and Palace duly went 1-0 up. "Here we go" we all thought. "Next stop, promotion". County then proceeded to bang 4 past us and we lost 1-4. We didn't win the next game either. Or the next, or the next. In fact we went 17 straight games without a win and far from ending the season as champions, were relegated to Division 3.

Now, I am not saying that this is what is going to happen to us this season, but those who do not learn the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them, and one thing Mr Jordan (and the rest of us for that matter) should have learned by now is that it never, ever pays to be over-confident where Palace are concerned.

Mong!

I'm pretty sure it was edited. The original statement went "By the first time we play Brighton, their fans will have to pay double, so we can make up for our relegation". It was just a bit of clever edititing, that's all. What's the big deal here?

Wow, I didn't realise it was now mathmatically impossible for us to acheive promotion

Bitter.

Has 'guarantee' been changed to 'quarentee' while I've been out of the country?

Jordan should learn to keep his over inflated ego quiet.
He has become a rent a quote. He's bloody opinionated, and on most occasions he speaks without any intellectual substance.
He acts like he must have one hell of a chip on his shoulder

All he does is motivate others to better against him and CP in general
"When will he learn ?"

You fickle lot make me laugh.

If we are not there or thereabouts at the end of the season I will be very suprised.

So what if saturday was poor. We were well in the game for long periods at one of the favourites for promotion last night at their place.

It was not long ago that Jordan was a legend for sticking to his guns about Johnson. He is ambitious for our club. Not a bad thing. I don't want to go back to the dark days of Noades being in charge.

If Simon Jordan had made all those stupid mindless boasts and they had
been "hidden" in a statement of 1,000 words, are you saying that they
would not still have constituted stupid mindless boasts?
Just because some journo/wordsmith has lifted out the choicest titbits
from Jordan's offering and cobbled them together into one enormously
embarrassing whole, in no way excuses their vulgarity and obtuse-
ness,

Actually mate I totally agree, and sooner or later one or two other chairmen are going to start backing Jordan about bad agents.
He's got a big mouth, he shouts it off, and upsets people. Good.
There are too many chairmen hamstrung by finances or other considerations, someone has got to have a go about these bloodsucking agents who feed off the game to the detriment of clubs and fans everywhere.

Totally albaeagle. It was bound to take some time for us to get used to the CCC. Even if we lose to Narwich on Saturday, we still have plenty of time/ games in which to bounceback. Don't panic ...

I would love it if agents became regulated due to clubs taking a stand.

Jordan is a businessman who can't understand why some of these people earn so much for so little. Agents and ex leeds players.... There will be a correction soon...

I have cancelled sky sports because it is filthy how much some people are taking out of the game. If anyone questions it, you get one of those talking heads on super saturday having a pop at a Jordan of this world "because he is not a football man"

What does that mean exactly?

Excuse me but isn't this thread about Jordan's dangerously complacent
forecast of Palace being Championship certainties?
What are you the poor Palace fan's Max Clifford - always available to
help our Chairman divert their attention away from his latest gaffe and
turning it against his favourite bete noir agents?
Believe me celery stick at the present time with two defeats from our
first two League games in a season in which we needed to "hit the ground running" to have a real chance of promotion, the nefarious
actions of agents in the game are the least of Palace's worries.
Far more serious is the disillusionment and demoralisation Jordan has
created among fans in less than a week by his over-the-top, boastful
public utterances just before the start of our Centenary season.
They have not only caused consternation among our supporters,
but have given Dowie and his players a mountain to climb to get our promotion challenge back on track.
Worst of all our Chairman has handed every media hack a giant sized
hammer to beat himself and our club with every time Dowie and the
team don't deliver on the field. It could be a very long season.......

I hadnt thought of myself as the poor mans Max Clifford, but I like it,
what to charge Simon Jordan though?

But there would be no such panic if losing at home to Luton and away to Wolves had happened in November.
These results are ONLY shocking to fans who think the Championship is easy, but as Palace fans we should know this league isnt easy, we've played in it often enough.

And the idea that any group of fans should panic after losing two games in a row is just daft.

Back onto Simon Jordan, he supports Palace like a big stroppy kid sometimes, ''We'll win'' ''We'll be Champions''. But thats OK, I support Palace like a big kid sometimes too, most of the time in fact. Thats part of being a footy fan isnt it?

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAGLES!

Spot on. Every time Jordan opens his mouth I prepare to cringe, whether it's his blatant pandering to the masses with knee-jerk statements about agents, slagging off other teams' chairmen/players/ managers/fans, or making stupid predictions. Definite similarities to Allison, who was actually a lot more entertaining and far less negative and abusive. Jordan should let his actions speak for themselves. We had the best rstring of results on the pitch in living memory when he shut the **** up for a few months the season before last. But don't expect that to happen again soon (him keeping quiet, I mean)...he's already admitted he was miserable during that period, despite us getting promotion, because he didn't have the contact he wanted with Dowie (ie the focus wasn't all on him). He's much happier now he's getting press every week and becoming a football celebrity (albeit a highly unpopular one with most non-Palace fans). If he was such a "genuine fan" as a lot of supporters would have us believe, he'd have been overjoyed about getting promotion a year ago last May and he'd only open his mouth when he had something to say that helped the club and didn't alienate neutral observers in their opinion of us and, more importantly, their willingness to do business with us.

Is it just me, or does it seems only a matter of time before he is making a fool of himself on one of these reality shows like Celebrity Big Brother or Celebrity Survivor.

Lets face it he has already been sniffing around a few of the girls that have been in these types of shows, and if Neil Ruddock can do it, I’m sure he thinks he can.
