Due to Derby withdrawing from the league apparently...

The reserve match against Derby County at Selhurst Park scheduled for Wednesday evening (31st August 2005) has been cancelled. This is due to Derby withdrawing from the Barclays Premiership Reserve League South.
Therefore the away fixture against Derby due to be played on Tuesday 17th January 2006 has also been cancelled.

Bummer.

Thanks for the info. Not pleased, as I love the reserve games (free, easy park, relaxing atmos', check out the fringe players).

Not being a huge follower of reserve team football in general, is a team withdrawing from the league an unusual occurance? Has a reason for the withdrawal been made public?

Just interested, thats all.

Yes, it's all on Derby's website.

They don't have a large squad and their reserve team was mainly made up of academy players. The club felt these kids were being asked to play too much football, what with academy games and reserve team football.

They've withdrawn for a year until some of these players graduate.
