Are the shirts the we buy of the same quality/standard as the ones the players wear? Or are they cheap versions???????
Thought the word 'replica' meant 'copies of..but not the same'.
For example, if you buy a 'premier league replica football' from JJB its a cheap version costing about 12.99, whereas a 'proper' premier league football cost around £90.
Can anyone help me answer this life or death question!!!!!

Yes they are different! The players shirts are a much better material than the ones we buy!

I think players shirts have some kind of added water proofing too, a special material.

I knew it!!!!! Although didn't somebody say here that they got the old TFG home shirt thrown to them by a player last game of the season at tranmere a few years ago and they found it to exactly the same material. I know that back in those days we had no money and that that maybe the explanation.

A lot of shirts you buy from abroad you can get authentic or replica. I have last seasons Real Madrid players shirt and it has a clima cool layer in side, which the replica doens't. The same with the 02/03 Inter kits. I have the players home shirt and it has the mesh inside which players always used to get tangled up in, but the replica didn't have the mesh layer. :) Also I know the proper Italy national team shirts have a special spray on them to help remove sweat from the skin, but the replica doesn't. Authentic shirts usually cost about £60-90, replicas are the usual £30-45.

i presume theres no way of buying a 'players' quality palace shirt then? unless you begged Diadora for one.

All the palace shirts I have which are player worn are the same as the replica's except for stiched motifs, makers badges and advertising, the material and set up of the shirt is almost always the same.

I thought that in this country they had to be the same as the players shirts? Some kind of law.

Diadora have a agreement with Palace where they get all the used players training kit, not shirts.
I have managed to get many shirts from last season bith home and away with and without advertised web address though these are all player worn.

The yellow away TFG shirt 2000-2001 was a good shirt because you couldn't snag it.

More rare than the FA Cup final shirt

It all dipends on provider. I know Umbro shirts are the same on and off the field (so players and fans) while Nike "originals" are not so original. For example Croatian national team had two different shirts in the store 30 and 50 pound replicas, and people tought that 50 pound shirt was real, but not even that one was. I had real Croatian national team in my hands and there are some differences between those two. I'm not sure about Diadora.

They must be different, some of the players wear long sleeved shirts.
Recently bought a British Lions White shirt made by Adidas. Price was similar to a football shirt, possibly a little cheaper. The material is 5 times thicker than our current shirt and the quality is so mucgh better.
I do think that the football supporter is being stitched up with the quality of football shirts.

stupalace will give you the best answer on this subject - he is a real authority on such things and has an incredible knowledge on small details which differentiate between "match worn" and "replica"
About 15 years ago, the main difference was that the club badge used to be embroidered for player shirts, wheraeas usually either stuck on or a sewn on patch for the fans' version
Nowadays, the differences are often very subtle - on last seasons Premiership ones, the web address and "CPFC" on the back of the shirt didn't appear on the players ones. Also, the players lettering, numbers and sleeve patches were bigger than the replica ones available to fans (although with a bit of hunting, these can sometimes be found, usually on ebay from time to time.
This season, the players shirts have an extra sponsor above the player name, which is currently unavailable to fans (I'm sure the sponsor would be delighted if they knew that a few "perfectionists" wanted the logo on their replicas). I believe the Coca Cola League letters and numbers and sleeve badges are identical on both fans shirts and players shirts, but the one thing I'm not sure about is whether the players shirts have "diadora" and the crest embroidered on them, or stuck on as per the replicas.
