Yes it is too low but it is part of a bankroll and discipline growth program that I set myself...I will post the details in a mo...

I have set a timeline of where I want to be and by what date:

01/10/2007: Start off playing $40/50 NL aiming for $800 per week. Max. Loss of $100 per day

28/10/2007: Deadline for moving up to $100 NL with a minimum of $2000 bankroll, aiming for $1000 per week profit. Max. Loss of $250 per day

30/12/2007: Deadline for moving up to $200 NL with a minimum of $4000 bankroll, aiming for $1500 per week profit. Max. Loss of $500 per day

24/02/2008: Deadline for moving up to $400 NL with a minimum of $8000 bankroll, aiming for $3000 per week profit. Max. Loss of $1000 per day

25/05/2008: Deadline for moving up to $1000 NL with a minimum of $20000 Bankroll, aiming for $6000 per week profit. Max. Loss of $2500 per day

This is quite an ambitious target of events but that makes it all the more inspiring for me and no matter how well I do, it will certainly be a fun road and enriching. The key is discipline

Grrr, Now I have only been playing for about 4 months or so but am steadily improving both playing live and online.

However I am slightly shafted in not having a credit card or debit card (Dont get me started on BVI banks) and so rely onplaying in free rolls to either gain points to be able toenter or cash.

This evening I am shortstacked in the last 20 of a tourney and push all in preflop with 10 10, I get called by AA and 88.

Flops comes over 108j so I am ahead turn is an 8 for him to make quads and just to rub t in the river is another J to put me out with a full house against his quads.

Not too disappointed as I am far more consistent and getting further and further in tourneys. Just would liketo step up a level and play for a bit of cash.

I would have posted the hand history but the laptop nearly went over the balcony

I decided to start with $500 and didn't want to top up from my reserves. From the past I believe I am good enough to beat any level up to $2/4NL, anything above that (e.g 3/6NL) I am unproven.

I basically did an honest review of where I am at and where I should be and realised that for the past year maybe even past 2 years I have not really developed. I have been plodding along at 0.5/1 and 1/2 NL and have never really kept a consistent ever growing bankroll.

I will readily admit that my discipline and bankroll management were absolutely appalling and the reasons for holding me back. I could not handle nor control losing days and had no limits. I would say start with 400, make 1k and then play out of my comfort zone at 3/6 without the BR to do so and lose the lot or at least a large %. Sometimes of course I would win a lot but with this lack of control I know that I am going nowhere.

So I wrote out goals and where I want to be in poker terms and what I want to achieve and made a realistic plan of how to get there.

Sorry if this sounds a bit fragmented but I have made the mistake of typing whilst I am playing:grrr:

I never seem to win with small pairs and always seem to lose when facing them. Pushed with 44 and JQ hits, whenever I push with AK AQ AJ A10 and come across a small pair they always seem to hold up. I did that the other day. I was talking on the phone while multi-tabling, while surfing the net aswell.

Holding 2nd nut lo and nut hi, didn;t bother looking at the river and re-raised the other guy all-in. The river gave him nut nut, and I'm left there thinking...'not again!'

^ That is actually really poor ^

Anyway, I am now a 99.9% hi/lo only player. I might enter the odd turbo hold'em sattelite tourney to get into a bigger buy-in, but generally I don't bother.

Without trying to jinx myself, I now have a solid cash game AND tournament game, and I'm playing a lot more variety of hands for value which I would usually have dumped.

Last four tourneys results -

Bubbled (I got massively sucked out on when the other player hit rr after I put him all in post flop, and would have been chip leader on final table)

Won

19th - Two huge suckouts by the same player in two hands sent me out, once again, I would have been in great position nearing FT.

8th - I was tired and made an aggressive, but ultimately incorrect, play which got called. He had to hit still, but he had a ton of outs which made his call correct.

Not the best results, but I am making so few mistakes and have been very unlucky to go out on two of those occassions.

Cash is now going well after dumping my $200 stack on $1/$2 the other day, I stayed relaxed and reloaded, and small profited in the end.

I am sure my change in fortunes is because it doesn't bother me any longer if I lose, and with this attitude I never tilt, and can always think things through clearly and logically.

Playing with no fear really has done wonders for my game.

Sort of thinking about putting some money in my PS account as they have a lot more hi/lo action than Laddies, but I really struggle when starting new accounts, so I may leave it for the time being.

Long post I know, but I haven't been getting too much time recently to post, so though I would make the most of it.

Paul Romain - nice one on that big payout, PK was holding biggest payout for a while, gives everyone a new target to go for (not that I'll get it playing my $10 rebuy $1,500 GTD:) ). :p

I am playing 90 man SnG at the moment. Obviously no cash involved as previously stated.

Tonight I have finished 2nd and 13th. Am disappointed with the 13th as I was in about 7th with chips and hit a king high straight on the flop. I push all in and the guy flips over K9 to put him on 2 pair. The dreaded K came up on the river.

Can definately see an improvement though which is encouraging

KevTheOptimist
18-10-2007, 07:51 AM
Well, I somehow managed to do 40 bar playing in the £5 rebuy at the slick!

And I thought I was playing like a rock too! I was folding hands like 9 2 for christ sake. I was out shortly after the break when I was all in with KJ and got beat by A4 off suit (who called my all in for half his stack after i had folded the last like 8 hands pre flop - good one pal).

Then went home and recieved the dirtiest beat I've had for a very long time. Haven't got the HH to hand but it went a little something like this:

I got 88, and lost to 10 Q.

Flop 8 9 K. Got it all in at that point (he didn't even bluff at it which I don't get too upset about, HE CALLED MY ALL IN). Turn rag, river Jack.

I got some of it back with consecutive Aces.

Ahhh, I thought there was a sick beat? :p :o

Yer, know what you mean, 40 notes in a £5 rebuy is going some, and the average BSlick player will plough through it like it's going out of fashion. I managed 30+ in a £2r smashed up a couple of months ago and came 4th for £80. It was a losing night after beerzzzzz :(

What did 1st prize pay btw/runners?

KevTheOptimist
18-10-2007, 09:49 AM
33 Runners and the prize pool was £1060. 1st was like £480 ish.

Fair dos my beat wasn't 'sick' but it was pretty dirty and the dirtiest I've had for a while - have been fairly lucky of late.

What annoys me about the slick is that people make calls with top pair all the time and bet out with mid pairs etc so you tend to loosen up thinking right then I can do some damage here with as little as top top. But top top never comes and you end up donking away your chips with similar hands to the ones you are thinking are easy money! It's a trap I tell thee.

Playing tight is the way forward but be ware you will get called so betting your draws is dangerous.

So, just to get this straigh Gav, you took a sicky giving the excuse that you 'felt a bit tired and had a cold coming on', but it turned out to be a false alarm and you are in today?

If I was your boss I'd annhilate you for that! For one, since when do you need a day off for a cold! I'd only work 100 days a year if that was the case!

you are about as good at this as you are at playing poker !!

I took the day off as holiday, not a sickie. I am not like you and don't give it the "oh i had a few beers the night before, had a hangover and so I rang in sick" malarkey.

I have enough holiday left to take one if I dont feel well enough to go to work.

Playing in my weekly tourney at the cricket club. New bloke playing and hitting cards left right and centre. About 2 hours in, 6 remaining, I'm 3rd with a healthy stack. New bloke limps in, everyone folds, I'm BB and look at AA, raise 3xBB, he re-raises about 8xBB's, I get a rough idea that he's not folding so I put him all-in. He insta-calls, I flip over my aces and I expect to see KK or QQ.
K6o.....

Needless to say, the flop produces a king as does the river. :clown:

Unfortunately, about 3 hands earlier, I had lost most of my stack when my AA ran into QQQ, but this is still fairly nice ...

I still don't really get what these graphs show? Are they just random peoples stats? Profit per day or something?

SamTheOldGoat

These are often know as 'lifetime' graphs or monthly or even just session graphs Kev. At the bottom is the amount of hands played. Obviously a perfect graph is a constant upwards spiral but often there are downfalls as seen on this where he probably lots consecutive all in pots at high levels taking 'shots'. The other graph I showed was the PLO equity graph..... expected winnings with the hand V the other hands AND ACTUAL winnings :)

I don't read as many poker forums as I should. I find the format and layout on 2+2 annoying to read too.

Not anymore, as Sam mentions above, they have changed network and I don't really like the play from the players on the new one, too tight. Do you use Bet365? if so, what are your views on the changes?

I tried mini tables on the microgaming software and I couldn't handle it! Way too much info. packed into such a small space!

PocketFives just received a phone call from Absolute Poker confirming the suspicions of the online poker community over the past month. While we need to be vague in this post to respect their wishes, we can say that their systems were compromised, and that they are prepared to provide the details in a statement coming shortly.

Part of the statement will include a plan to refund players affected by this compromise.

We are extremely relieved to hear this outcome, as our most important goal in all this is to see justice given to those who were cheated in this process. Pocketfives is extremely proud to have played a part in the process of uncovering the impropriety that has occurred. We would of course like to thank all the other parties who played a key role in this process—specifically the folks that have been posting here and at twoplustwo.com.

This is great news for everyone. Keep your eyes out for the statement.

Extremely Relieved,

It's the same as I use at TitanPoker so I've got a database on all the players.
Bet365 have offered some sort of bonus scheme as a result of the change (happy about that) so I'm going to chase that down (I've just completed my TitanPoker bonus last night).

Tried multi-tabling and found it very unstable, tables flicking back and forth at random, got disconnected from it once when there was nothing wrong with my connection as I was also playing on FullTilt at the same time with no problems.

Standard stunk as usual.

When the 9s paired on the turn he threw it all in really quick. I just decided in the end he would have stopped to think how to get my money if he had a 9 - instead of taking a chance I would have to put him on one and shoving

Its the FTOPS10 $300+22 6-max $750k pool

one slight drawback - its a rebuy! (I will probably spend a little of my $31k win as a special treat on this one lol!)

Smaller field than the others hopefully though

12min blinds 40/80 by the first break.
1500 chips
$300 rebuys for 1500
$300 addon for 2000

I will probably do exactly that...and addon if situation looks favourable. I tend to play rebuys like that anyway unless v low buyins as I havent really read up on rebuy strategy too much and I feel more comfortable with tighter play anyway. worked for me so far

Really going about this the hard way, playing a deep stack MTT 5000 starting chips, get up to about 12,000 before donking off most of my stack with JJ v QQ. Down to 1,200 chips got back to 27k before my QQ meets 1010 with a 10 on the turn. That would have put me about 3rd/25 with about 45k, now down to 10k and short stacked again :sob:

Saw you online but your table was full. Out near the bubble on 2.1K guaranteed tournament. Short stacked, pushed all in with AQ from mid position on an unopened pot to run into 55, which made trips on the flop. Always lose those coin flips no matter what.

Not worried about braking the bank! Just getting a little peeved.

What's annoying me at the moment is that every marginal hand I'm seeing to show down, I'm losing. I've been thinking about why that is, perhaps it's because i've been chasing draws that haven't been hitting thus folding to river bets, or I've been laying down a lot of hands before showdown to large bets (am I being muffed a lot?) and the few hands that do go to showdown I've been up against terrific hands.

Oh well - I think I'm just not really having a great run of luck tbh, haven't been playing any differently so will just look for a change of luck me thinks.

Bizarre afternoons play. Easy $70 profit on 25NL. Whole $100 buy in gone on 50NL, not playing badly, most went on two hands KK vs AQ, flop comes AA, and AK vs QK flop comes QK, was sitting with $10 left on table when getting 99, pushed all in, one called AJ, A on flop. Then for $6 qualified for $100 + $9, 16K tourney at 8pm tonight taking down 35 runner field. Second paid $93, so when I got to heads up I couldn't lose, thought I was going to bubble with 3 left (only two paid) when I had 13K, but my all ins held up.

EAGLESRUS and those interested in APAT Walsall.

Alternates will be allowed the opportunity to take part during the first two levels. An additional prize of £75 will be created as a result of each alternate who is allowed to enter. This money will be awarded to the players finishing directly outside the above prize pool, so if for example 4 alternates take part in the event, then finishing positions from 21st to 24th will each win back their buy in of £75. The alternates will be chosen from the APAT controlled reserve list started at the venue at midday on the first day of play. This will enable a small number of additional members to participate in an APAT event.

Gav - typical betfair loose as you like action.

STOG - I know you didn't like betfair but you can't argue with the amount of action you get. I witnessed about $2000 changing hands on .25/.50 last night with hands like A4 off pairing the ace and called to river by J 10 paired jacks. Paired 10's with 7 kicker taking down $100 pots.

It was sick and it's what I think is the norm as well.

Needless to say I was card dead over this period apart from when I had QQ which I got all in with on a flop of 10 6 6 - called by 4 5 sooted and hit runner runner for the flush - doh!

SamTheOldGoat
24-10-2007, 09:47 AM
Jim, your ripping up those sats, nice stuff!

Kev, maybe I'll try it again then...... THe table layout was awful, when I d/l'd the software I was given two choices or table type and possibly chose the wrong one. Can you screenshot me a pic of what you guys play on on BF?

KevTheOptimist
24-10-2007, 09:53 AM
It's the same regardless of the option you choose, it's just that on the non standard tables you can re size very similar to stars.

Layout is a means to an end mate. Personally I can't stand the gimmickyness of stars so don't mind betfair at all.

SamTheOldGoat
24-10-2007, 10:29 AM
Just the way you have to bet etc, having to click the box to type in an amount. At least on Stars and party you can get other backgrounds and skins to make it how you wish!

Indeed! You can have a plain black screen if you want. Just nice having options rather than the worst software and interface to ever grace this planet!

KevTheOptimist
24-10-2007, 11:16 AM
But then I find the back grounds and the simple fact they make their backgrounds look real with like a picture on the wall and shit like that. I'm not 12, I'm not thinking I'm actually at a poker table, I've just got me laptop on in front of me.

SamTheOldGoat
24-10-2007, 12:25 PM
Lol, they aren't all like that! There are plain backgrounds etc too!

SamTheOldGoat
24-10-2007, 12:27 PM
And websites where you can load up new skins, so it's really custom. I'll glance at BF again tonight Kev and see if I can get my head around it. I admit it's OK if your playing one table, but anymore and I was just getting timed out etc....

Gav The Hamster
24-10-2007, 12:43 PM
i think betfair give you 20 secs to act Sam. Not sure whether others are more than this but from memory, I thought you got 30 secs on other sites

SamTheOldGoat
24-10-2007, 12:49 PM
Ahhhh, the reason I found it hard Gav as I was only playing on my laptop in bed and not on other screens was changing from table to table with there being nothing to warn me my hand needed to be played on the other table, like the beep/screech you get on other sites I've played on. Is there an option to turn this on?

Gav The Hamster
24-10-2007, 12:51 PM
yeh, there is.

where you auto post blinds, there is a little down or up arrow, click on that and it brings up more options on the menu. Sound is on there.

SamTheOldGoat
24-10-2007, 12:53 PM
There was sound when I was on a certain table, but nothing coming from tables that weren't 'highlighted'?

Gav The Hamster
24-10-2007, 12:54 PM
not sure then mate....i dont have sound on but I'm sure your table gets highlighted if its your turn to act. I only really play 2 tables so I dont have that difficulty

KevTheOptimist
24-10-2007, 01:04 PM
Sam - you get a sound and taken to the screen you need to act on.

One thing I don't like about betfair is the time aspect - they are almost turbo tables and no ability to call for a clock.

Can't win for love nor money on 50. Lost $100 buy in to calling an all in with top pair on the board, he turns over J2 with nothing paired on board and rivers the J, then a big one with nut flush running into ful house (he had KK and didn't reraise), then have J6 of clubs and push my remaining stack into the middle when I hit the flush on the turn, he calls with A of clubs and nothing on the board, 4th club hits on river.

He's slow played his set all the way to the river and got his money in when behind. Never slow play lol - especially when flush draw was out there as well.

I know, I never normally do - especially on such a wet board (straight draw too!). I actually flopped the nuts on another table and got distracted and called the flop without really thinking about it.

Even so though, I don't see me getting him to fold on either the flop or turn.
