I think it's a strange call from the BB. You're tourney life for a 'hero' call with 99 - not what I'd think was textbook.

hardly a hero call. The guy would have more than 50% of his chip stack left ffs !

And if Saul had a monster, he wouldnt raise all in with a few people to act behind him

KevTheOptimist
14-11-2007, 01:55 PM
Saul didn't need a monster to make it even a coin flip! I think it is a hero call cos your putting half your stack at risk putting someone on a lower PP that you - I can't beleive anyone thinks a call in that spot is correct if you put your oponent on two overcards? Do they?

I would have ummed and arred but ultimately laid down my 9's.

Blinds were 500/1000 so probably would push with monster as he would find it hard to put me on a hand as I am less than 8 x the BB?

Oh well have satellited through to the 100 + 9 16K at 8 o clock so not too bad.

what site is that with Saul?

Other half is out for the night so am looking forward to a night of poker and dog racing on Sky, 8pm $100 buy in sounds just the ticket

saul1664

betfair, and will prob be 80 to 120 runners, theres probably more action at PS if you are looking at that sort of buy in

just flopped straight flush on 50NL, with 4 others in pot but all i could extract was $7.50 on the river

doh

cheers Saul, think I remember my g/f saying she couldn't get betfair to work but will give it a go when I get in, normally play on WillHills or UltimateBet

Pain when no one has anything to go with you when you have a monster!

I agree - would fold 99 there. But a majority will call I think. Saw a similar situation the other day where a top online player (forget who) called with 44 and I remember thinking that I wouldnt have done that and wondering if thats why I am not a top online player yet!

How do you type in what bet you want to enter, am only using the arrows at the moment which is annoying! Probably obvious I know...

Not really. Was on volatile table and had to get out of a few hands. Then got AJ in mid position raised to 200, one caller flop comes A 10 x, he bets 400, turn is junk card, he bets 800, I have 1400 left so can't flat call so I pushed him all in but he turned over AQ and no help from river. Not very well played.

Finbar
14-11-2007, 08:37 PM
Yeah maybe a bit hasty I guess

Gutted, typed in 300 and it put me in for 1200, not a problem as I had KK, called by one person who went all in so called him, he had AK

Turn QQ3 then he hit the ace, nuts, am well short stacked now! Would have gone all in against him anyway but not sure why it put me in for 1200...

Just playing pants at the moment. Got A8 which made full house on turn, played a limping bet with only other caller on for the river calling for the river to hit another 8 for split pot. And now AA busted by 3Q with flush on the river with my large pre flop flop and turn bets called by gutshot draw.

Thought I would change codes, and played the $20 PL Omaha, and got knocked out second hand QQQ66 full house against KKK66 full house

Gutshot flush draw!?

I hate it when you limp with a hand like K 2 etc just cos you're on the BB or SB and you end up hitting a fluke two pair or something only to go on and lose the hand. You sit there and think b0ll0x, normally I'd fold that and would have stayed well clear of the hand!

saul1664
15-11-2007, 11:41 AM
Yes gutshot because he had no part of the board, knew he was behind, and hit runner runner to cripple me.

KevTheOptimist

Saul needs to brush up on his poker lingo. Totally misunderstood 'coolers' then claims a runner runner flush is a 'gutshot'.

Negreanu would eat you for dinner!

saul1664
15-11-2007, 11:57 AM
was a gutshot on the river. Didn't want the hand analysed.

Gav The Hamster
15-11-2007, 12:06 PM
If he hit a flush on the river, how has he got a gutshot only ?

I dont think anyone was going to analyse the hand, its just bloody hard to figure out how the hand actually went !

No he wouldn't, he's too nice.

Hellmuth on the other hand...

Speaking of which one of the more interesting things I've seen on the WSOP shows was the one where Hellmuth is at a table and the player to his right calls with J10 against a player who was all-in with pocket 9s. The flop came AKQ so the caller flopped Broadway. However the turn was a 9, and then a second Queen came on the river to take the pot the other way.

This led to the other player moaning about a bad beat, only of course for Hellmuth to correct him that it wasn't as he wasn't a favourite when the chips went in (although he was sympathetic to say that it was a horrible way to lose a hand).

Shortly after the same player came over the top of Hellmuth with KJ. Hellmuth called with AK, and led all the way to the river. Cue blowup.

I've been having a bad time recently - not playing well and I know it and haven't been having the best of luck either (played the $300 rebuy FTOPS10 last night and having played as carefully as I could with 1 rebuy and an addon had JJ turned over by QQ in the big blind)

So today I decided to go back to my favourite $24 tourney and resolved to do nothing fancy and just play it really solidly to get some confidence back.

All was going according to plan....

Well firstly I hate AK! I have a pathological hatred of the hand as I always seem to get outraced whether its in my hand or villains!

Secondly I was in the BB so I thought I could get in for free and see if I hit - if i didn't I was outta there scot free and if i did I was disguised (I was hoping one of them was playing Ax basically)

I also thought if i raised I might get reraised and I didn't really want to get into a race - I wasn't weighed down with chips after all and I didn't really want to end up all in pre which I may well have. Or they would fold and I would get nothing worth having.

All of which is debatable of course but I think it is a reasonable way to play AK on occasion to mix it up a bit

I was playing yesterday and someone raised all in for a large amount when the board flopped 3AA. I was sat there with pocket 3´s so happily matched it.

I end up winning with a full house as he had A5 or something and the turn and river were no use and started berating me until someone pointed out that he was behind all they way.

Anyhows what made me laugh more was that he still had one chip left somehow which had everyone at the table pissing themselves. The next pot had about 4 chips in and all the rest in a side pot.

things are looking a little brighter - sitting 10th of 46 left in the Stars $100+9 $15k - (altho the pool reached $38k )

(yes alright I know I said I was going back down to $24 :D )

I'm also playing the FullTilt $17k - was down to 30 chips at one stage but have battled back to 4,150!

Saul, are you EVER agressive?

saul1664
15-11-2007, 10:24 PM
Well when someone pokertrackered me, I showed as a loose aggressive, with my least profitable hand being JK.

It's an innocent flop, could go all in on the flop, but what is that going to achieve, instant folds and a profit of $8? Might have even got both calling if Q7 is prepared to push all in from early position on the river when dominated by both hands and the other guy calls a bet and a reraise on a gutshot straight draw so probably prepared to gamble.

How would have played the hand.

Came 28th in the end - shortstack A9 took out my KK first to leave me push or fold territory then decided to reraise a small blind steal with my A2 (no I don't know why either so don't ask!) from the BB but he had A9 and that was that.

Annoying - looked like I might get decent cash, as it was the $50 profit didnt cover the Daily Fifty entry at the same time!

Think I may have jump back on poker tonight, not had much chance recently !

My rakeback page is below if you want to sign up I get an extra 1% on top of your rakeback! :)

I would highly highly recommend Full Tilt - it's superb and you get 27% rakeback. You get 30% on Bodog, Battlefield (Prima so like Bet365) or Poker Heaven, but Full Tilt is such a great site I'd happily lose 3%. Absolute is also 30% and would be good if it wasn't rigged. SunPoker is 33% but is on the Cryptologic network which is a bit yucky.

Yes, was really dominated by a pair of 3s to my Kings. Incidentally showed aggression by reraising all in with AQ on A79 flop, had call and ran into 79. My whole buy in was disappearing into dust until spiked a third Ace on the river.

What a monging way to go out of 2.1K tourney.

First have 82 in big blind, flop 82A, small bets all round so raise to see where everyone is at, get a call and reraise all in, and fold to see A2 on flop, so good fold but down 25% of stack.

Next get JJ, small stack of about 730 calls me all in, I call and he has 55, first card out 5.

Have 740 chips, have AQ suited in late position, two limpers (blinds are 50/100, push all in) get two callers, one has A10 the other JJ, A10K on the flop, J on turn gives me straight but a 4th consecutive club on the river gives the A10 the flush.

Dont think I've been that crippled by 3 hands virtually in a row for ages.

Thought I'd have a go at a satellite into the latest FTOPS.

Was amazed at the standard of play. C-bets seem to always work, flopping a monster and slow playing always seemed to have some clown push big with an ace high or worse.

63 entries, was chip leader most of the way into the final table where my kings got cracked by big slick (another was all in with QJ, would have been massive chip leader), then KTs blind steal got called by JTo. Jack on the turn and that's it, gawne! Out in 3rd... :moo:

Will be having more goes at this.

Crashed out of the $100 in 22nd picking up $330. 8 times big blind so pushed all in on the button with no action before me with 9-10 suited. Called by ace 7. 9 came on the flop but was followed by an ace on the River. Still sitting pretty in the $20 rebuy, about 30th with 172 remaining.

Really need to sort out a rakeback deal. Am I right in saying pokerstars don't offer anything? Might have to get playing at Full Tilt.

Laddies.

Actually, they do have a rakeback scheme now based on PP's.

5,000 - 9,999 = 20% rakeback
10,000 - 24,999 = 25% rakeback
25,000+ = 30% rakeback

At my peak, I could earn 1,000 pp's a day, but I just don't have the time to play like that anymore.

I'm up to 4,000 this month, and that is only playing for a max of 2-3 hours a day, two to three days a week (when averaged), so I could easily hit 25%

It would take a lot for me to hit 25,000 a month, but certainly not impossible.

Only thing is, I often go for a week without playing, so my pp's don't ever really accumulate at a decent rate, and you can;t claim any rakeback at all if you don;t hit 5,000 pp's.

As of now, I have never received any rakeback, from any site. :(

Funny game this. Outdrawn on every street yesterday and now running hot baby. $240 up in an hour. Made set over set when 777 made a $4 bet into a $12 pot and let me hit 101010 on the turn and then pushed me all in. Also called an all in reraise on a 66558 board holding JJ to see QA. Which. Was. Nice.

3 tables open at the moment, one full ring, two six handed (but it is 7am Saturday morning ET).
Players per flop seems to be quite high.

I'll check again when it's prime time.

This has happened to me so often recently - it just seems next to impossible to get people off of flush draws and the number of times they have hit has really demoralised me!

I had a guy call my 5xBB raise with Q6s in small blind a couple of nights ago, then he called my allin on the flop with nowhere near the odds and hit his flush.

I know in the long run if you keeping making people call against the odds you'll win but its hard to keep putting the chips in and losing time and time again - especially when it busts you out from a good position

Guess what.....

raised 3BB from mid-pos with K10s

BB calls with 62s (you know whats coming now...)

Flop was A83 with 2 spades

I bet pot to represent A and I know he is loose and will likely call a smaller c bet

He calls - another spade

He bets out - I have 900 chips left with a 7k pot. I know he has hit the blasted flush but have to call really.

And out I go again to 6 fkg 2

(Fulltilt didnt save HH for some reason)

I'm an idiot. Was chip leader with 17 left and didn't even make the final table! Lost about half my stack when my AQ was beaten by A6 - River -6!. Then Tilted slightly and played some aggressive stuff, eventually mu QK lost to 44.

I am playing 90 man free roll sng's until Stars and FT work out a way to let me deposit on their sites.

I have won the last 3 have played in and actually felt a little guilty about the last hu.

The other guy had about two thirds of my stack and I have 102 spades. Flop comes over AK6 with the last 2 spades. Other guy minimum bets (?) I call. next is a J of spades completing my king high flush. I shove all in and he calls.

He turns over AA for a set of Aces! but loses to my flush. What a donk for minimum betting with a set. lol

Horrible seeing the board pair when you have a flush. :(

saul1664
18-11-2007, 09:26 PM
Yes, but he knows I am drawing to the flush as I have called his re-raise, and he knows I have hit it, so he is not going to call a big bet unless he wants to gamble, but has to call a small turn bet and possibly a medium river bet, but of course he paired, and I didn't put him on trips.

3rd break and 575 left.

Going to have to push soon in the next two orbits though blinds are 5/10,000 and I'm down to 50,000.

On a table of huge stacks as well which isn't helping, its hard to steal anything at anytime because their calling almost any raise and constantly raising themselves :(

they must have changed the structure of that tourney - used to go on all night but the blinds are cranked right up now - level 10 800 compared to 240 in Full Tilt Main Event i'm playing.

just about doubled chips by break 1 - long way to go though

Went out in 355th... Not bad out of 17,500 but when I start getting closer to the finish, I fancy my chances.

Lost a race with AJ against 88, then had AQ again next hand and I run into AK with an A on the flop.

Thought it was going to be another miserable day again. Got KK, raised preflop, one caller, kept betting into me although board didn't look that dangerous, to find out he flopped quad 3s.

Made a good comeback to win a $50 STT, from small stack when 3 handed, had J10 and pushed all in, the other guy said call me, he duly did with 24 and I doubled up, then doubled up next hand with JJ, and effectively won the tourney when my all in call with A5 ran into A4 and held up.

Then managed to get FH with JJ in 50 to double my stack which was cool.

Becomes so slow and tight at bubble time. I will blame you when I get into work tomorrow!

Paul Romain
19-11-2007, 03:20 AM
pity that - just had a look at the monthly tournament leaderboard and i'm still just outside the top 200. that last hand probably would have got me in as well as making a bit more dosh!

still can't be greedy

Chester
19-11-2007, 03:22 AM
You did great. There were a couple of hands that stood up for us and a couple of others that didnt but hey ho that is mtt's for you.

to reach the money is nothing to be down about in that one!

Chester
19-11-2007, 03:25 AM
Now about the rakeback that OZ and I will be getting.

Considering I cant even put on a cent at the moment i am willing to take 1% minus buy in.

As for Oz he is Aussie so words are worth more to him!

Yer, I play on it as and when but have my own account on Stars that I pretty much play solely cash on. Playing on party at the moment to good success and Leons (my brothers) mainly playing on big slicks site :)

That was a jolly entertaining read, well played Paul! :p

So where did you finish in the end, what was the buy in, how many entrants and how much did you win?

I am bloody knackered this morning after that. It was great fun railing it.

So fkscreennames won it in the end. He came to our table for about the last hour and a half and was steadily picking up chips. When we went out he was in 4th so pretty impressive.

I think the satellite cost me $26 - I'll have to check. I may have won a couple more entries too but I've lost track. I know I won 4 to the $300 buyin so I'm up overall regardless of the actual events

Woke up at 1pm
