Flat call more dangerous, if an A or K hits the board, AA and KK completely dominates. If you are going to reraise with AK, think you need to be prepared to go all in to reraise, otherwise you are betting $24 to win $7?

All IMO:-

By reraising with AK we're getting more money into the pot with what is very likely the best hand - we're not just trying to take it down preflop and win $7 (although that's a fine result) - we're trying to build a pot so that if AQ/KQ calls our reraise we can play a big pot in position against a hand we dominate. Even if we miss the flop we may still be able to take the pot down with a continuation bet if Villain checks to us as even if he calls with JJ or QQ he has to be concerned that we have AA or KK.

When we are 4-bet however things change - the standard 4-betting range at full ring is AA, KK, AK and sometimes QQ - AK is not ahead of this range so it's right to fold. It may seem weak but 4-bets are very strong, especially at full-ring - if we suspect Villain IS 4-betting us light then it may be correct to shove - however vs a player who seems to be playing 'standardly' I think we have to fold.

I Only play on will hill at the moment and the cash games during the day are full of nits, and when u see one player playing wildly in a cash game of high limits there is normally a queue a mile long. So i wouldn't recommened it compared to what i have heard party poker to be like. I think STOG can swear by it the amount of times he has bad mouthed their play on here lol :) i think i need me some of that action to be honest.

Tournaments on will hill however are quite fishy in my opinion.

Think you played it perfectly. Funny that krause limps AA but even more so that he bets and coldcalls a raise and RR on the flop - why limp AA if you're going to play passively when you actually get some action?

His stats are insane too! Hardly raises a hand preflop, plays 69% and has an aggression factor of 5...

No worries - it should be up there now as partyimages.zip. I can't remember which individual files I changed so I zipped up my whole Images folder so you should just be able to replace the Images folder in C:\Program Files\PartyGaming/PartyPoker/ with the one in the ZIP file. You'll need to set 4-color deck to be on, and also turn off Characters in Video & Audio options or else it won't look right.

I found 10NL a tough limit as the rake constitutes such a high percentage of each pot. Hopefully you have rakeback - it can make a significant difference at a level like 10NL.

Some advice I found helpful was that you don't need to win every pot you raise, and you don't need to make *any* moves to comfortably beat the limit. Just play ABC poker, avoid bluffing and hero calls as much as possible - you will get paid off when you have a hand.

Yes, been playing NL since new year's, mainly 25c/50c. Unless you have a great read on a player there is little need to bluff or look someone up while holding marginal hands. Value betting with strong hands is the key.

Thanks. I do have rakeback and it has been vital in slowly building my br. I have found it fairly easy to win big pots with big hands but I lose my head every now and then and make stupid decisions. I'm thinking too far ahead sometimes - when villain 3-bets me from the BB I think he's making a play when really he's just looking at his pocked kings.

The biggest loser so far has been tilt but I'm improving that aspect of my game every day. Onwards and upwards!

Yes I do - moves and bluffs are definitely overused at low stakes, particularly against loose passive players. IMO the majority of low limit players' biggest leak is that they overvalue their hand and call too much - hence bluffing is not a profitable strategy as many will call you down with third pair. Value-betting the best hand is the way to combat players like this as they'll call you down with third pair. :)

These players also generally don't value-bet enough - they'll bet if they have a very strong hand but if they have a marginal hand that's probably winning like TP weak kicker they'd rather check or call than risk a bet - effectively playing their cards face-up.

Paste the new Images folder into C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker - this is the main Party installation folder which contains the default Images folder. Basically we're swapping out the old Images folder with our new one so it should be in the same place as the old one was.

You can delete it if you want, I renamed mine to Imagesbackup which has the same effect but keeps a backup in case I want to go back without reinstalling the software from the Party website.

The program uses the graphic files contained in Images for what is displayed on the screen - just by replacing the Images folder it will automatically use the new files when you next start Party.

Got it all set up, looks great, thanks alot SE!

One question - This skin means you can't read the time to next level text - do you know which file this is so I can just swap that back?

Or you could reference me to the relevant 2+2 forum and I'll go and look it up there!

Happy to share HH, but I'm currently trying to build a roll, so sticking to $6 STT atm. Once I have some cash built up I'll probably dive into 0.10/0.25

Thanks again!

No worries - if you're still having probs maybe try deleting your Images folder and copying it over again from the ZIP file. I can't see what could be causing the problem if you replace the whole folder.

Bugger, I almost never play tourneys so I'm not too sure about this. I had a look through the images folder but couldn't see anything that seemed relevant. You could revert to the original Party folder and try installing the mod I downloaded and see if you get the same problem (it could be I screwed something up). I got the table mod at:-

http://www.holdemreview.com/category/party-poker-mods/party-poker-table-mods/

I can't seem to find where I got the card mods from (I think it was pokermods.com which is now down)

Always a tough decision with QQ. Pushing early maybe suggests a lower pair or AK, so you are probably ahead, depends whether you want to risk a big chunk of your stack with QQ vs KA. On the other hand, you only have 1K invested in the pot so it's fairly easy to fold and wait for a better spot.

SamTheOldGoat
25-01-2008, 01:21 PM
I'm pinging it in there, must be FT as there's no seat 5........ what was the buy and guarantee? I think your ahead here a huge % of the time. Outcome?

Strathclyde Eagle
25-01-2008, 02:08 PM
Neither of those two are quite at a desperate point though (borderline for the guy with 13k). I'm not saying it's an easy decision, but I don't have a problem with folding there.

PoolKing
25-01-2008, 02:46 PM
I agree with elements of what all 3 of you say, all those thoughts went trhough my head though Saul's post summed up what I decided. If I had raised and was pushed all-in then I would have probably called but as I was in the BB I wasn't commited to play the pot so decided to fold as I expected to be behind. I regret not taking Sam's approach and sticking it all-in but I was probably a little cautious as half hour before that hand I lost with QQ from calling the all-in of a short stack who had KK.

To my surprise the initial all-in player had AQ and the caller had just A3. I expected to be up against either AK or a pocket pair. There was no A on the flop and I would have been in the top 5.

If I remember rightly, this hand occured when there were about 70 players left and the top 45 got paid. I ended the tournament in 45th! It was a $17.5k guarantee R+A, I had spent $42 in it and payouts started at $84.

iamanuplander
25-01-2008, 03:51 PM
in my opinion i would have felt i was behind but unless you could nearly say for 100% that you were because the two that went all in were really tight i couldn't fold QQ KK or obv AA but i would fold AK beacuse it is a drawing hand.

se1eagle
25-01-2008, 04:42 PM
Not a tourney player but would a guy with 18BB stack open-shove a better hand than QQ preflop? I'd be wanting to get value from such a hand...

Strathclyde Eagle
25-01-2008, 04:55 PM
Because he knows there's a likelihood of some idiot calling with some dross like A3?

I've only done it a few times, but if push big time with a premium hand you can almost see them thinking as the timer ticks down "Nah, don't believe him." and then call with a decent hand like jacks or 10s.

I'm definitely allin with QQ there - open shove with M=6 has a wideish range here - the caller is even shorter stack which gives him wide range too. If you want to win you have to look to treble up here and with 12k left if you lose you are still in the game.

This is not the time to be cautious in an MTT

This was last 26 of a large tourney i was healthy in chips about 9th i think. My logic at the time was that the dealer button could be raising with anything, so if i go all in i had some fold equity to get the dealer button off his hand and take the blinds uncontested. The likelihood of the BB having a hand is unlikely which made this move all the more appealing. Even if i did get a call from the dealer button i cud well be up against 99 -77 or two overcards so in good/decent shape. But when the Big Blind flat calls i might aswell close the table because i know hes revealing KK or AA lol.

So lads after my explanation of it was i wrong to do it? Flat call maybe then fold if dangerous cards came on board?

You know things are bad when it transpires that six or seven players are playing together to split a $1.5 GTD hi/lo tourney, day in, day out - they make $25 profit each per day on average. :(

RichieG
27-01-2008, 01:07 AM
That sounds dodgy Dan, care to expand?

DANCOO
27-01-2008, 10:44 AM
There is a daily $1.5k gtd hi/lo tourney on laddies, recently upped to $2.5k gts on saturdays. My favourite tourney, not sure for how much longer. :(

Was speaking to a regular hi/lo cash player online yesterday, and was telling me how he had been asked if he wanted to join them, but declined.

There's about seven of them, and whatever winnings they make they split. Reckon it avergaes out at $25/day, which although isn't much in itself, over the week it amounts to $175 almost guaranteed.

Not sure if there is actual collusion going on or not, or if they play soft against eachother, or they might even play their normal game?

I reckon I know about half of them, not sure though if it is against rules though just to agree to split?

I'll find out a bit more when I see this other bloke playing next.

RichieG
27-01-2008, 11:50 AM
Defo not against the rules - I think there's a group of top name pros who do this in the $10k buy-in tourneys to reduce variance...

Obviously that's not the case if there's collusion going on - why not e-mail Ladbrokes support with the screennames and ask them to check.

Trying to qualify for the virgin poker tournament tonight!

just at the first break and sitting on 3k. So in average position.

Would of been close to chip leader though suffered an incredibly unlucky beat. Was dealt KK. Raised and got one call. Flop came out a,k,4. a great flop. Other guy went all in. I call. He shows a 10. The turn comes out a 10 and then the river an ace and he hit the higher full house! A few swear words were said!

Think that's a marginal call to be honest. I know it's a steal position that Saul raised from, but to call over 75% of your stack when you could either have just one overcard or even worse a dominated ace isn't the best situation.

Saul - I like the play in that spot because he has got to make that decision for a mammoth percentage of his chips. You just got unlucky that he had something he could call with.

Six or seven players, rules are that you play to win, but obviously it is in their interests to have more of them on the final table, so soft play does take place, and maybe some collusion.

I would bet that is the same scenario in the $10k tourneys.

Probably agree to never bluff eachother.

Hey mate,

How are all the plans etc for it? You ready to roll? It's amazing how much stuff there is to do! The marquee/Church etc are booked, just looking at honeymoons and buying a house so there is so much going on at the moment! I'm still playing maybe 10 hours a week and cashing in on the soft play at PP SNG's. I'm also mingling it with a bit of 1/2 and 2/4 but not so many crazy amounts of tables at present as I'm not fully rolled at these levels. Lowri would have a fit if I told her I was sat at the table with a couple of k on the line so like you, I'm not playing too much. I was 8 tabling some low limit stuff last night and some of the outdraws and redraws were mighty impressive and sick, wasn't quick enough to get the HH's though, sorry Kev!

Brutal that you had a K high flush as well.

Sometimes (this will sound retarded) I hate getting AA or KK first hand as they never seem to hold up in a race as there will always be some dick who cant put any type of hand down and hits the flush or somthing.

Running into AA is just a cooler. What ever you did he would have followed

Its like in a cash game when you keep getting raised when you have KK that it's hard to lay it down. You can probably get away on the flop if you read the reraise as AA, though it's a nice flop for QA as well. Happened to me recently with KK got called with JA, J hit the flop and I got all my chips in and J hit the river. Nothing worse than going out in the first hand.

Tim, you going to try and qualify for the APAT european in Austria? Sat runs Sunday @ 8pm $30. Prefer to qualify rather than buy-in direct as you get $600 - thats flights paid for!

GL on sunday in Virgin, hopefully this will be my final try!

Reference my previous post about collusion in the Laddies Hi/Lo tourney:

Started to get a little heated last night.

$2.5k Hi/Lo gtd, big overlay, top five get paid.

I make final table, playing cash table at same time.

Gets down to final six.

A player I play with regularly on cash tells me (who was on the cash table with me at the same time I'm in the tourney), 'good luck on the final table, you're being three teamed'.

Basically, of the six remaining players, three of them are playing as a team.

No action between them whatsoever, apart from the occassional chip dump!

Starts to become really obvious to me (not the other 'straight players' though). So I have to pipe up (and I know exactly who they are).

'Guys, don't make it so f*cking obvious, you can play a hand against eachother you know!'

One of the straight players, and one of the dodgy ones - 'Who', 'What???'

All the while this is happening a few of the cash players are watching aswell, and discussing what is going on.

The player who told me about this is on the cash table, and starts making comments about - 'Piss take what they're doing', and 'Did you see that, rasie/re-raise/fold...sick'

Then the other cash players start saying you can't say stuff like that without any proof, and asking what is going on.

Six left, I'm 6th with 5,750 (blinds 600/1200).
CL has around 75,000

First one of the straight players go out, and I make the money.

I manage to double up and target the other shortstack (cheater player), and manage to knock him out...BOOOOOOOM.

I start getting getting decent cards and knock a straight player out...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

All the while, being cheered on by the cash game players - 'Go carl, go carl, go carl.......do it for the straight players'. :D

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I take out another cheat, and am chippy.

Well, that's where the adventure ended. I was tired, and played uber-aggressive on a nut low draw, and lost to a turned FH.

Still, $400 that no-one thought I had a hope of making, and at least I get to keep it all, whereas the cheaters will have to split.

Unfortunately, the cheater went on to win. :(

Rest assured, I will be informing Laddies of the situation. What do I expect them to do about it..... ALL!

Yes, going to be doing my best to get into that. I dont think I can justify spending 600 to go out to europe to play in the tournament. To get your money back you will need to finish in the top 3, so its really not worth it. Would be a great weekend though, so going to give most of the satelites a go. 1 place in every 20 is farily difficult odds though!

Good luck as well, just hope myself, you and Paul dont end up being on the same table early on!:p

That's ridiculous. Congratulations on finishing second in those circumstances.

Thanks strath, but I was third not second. Still pleased, but being chippy I really should have made final two.

Not looking good early on in Virgin Sat :(

Lost a large amount when my flopped 2 pair lost to a flopped set then got the odds to chase a flush and didn't hit....

had to give Virgin a miss in the end tonight. been visiting uncle in hospital in North London and horrendous traffic made me late home.

Playing Brawl, Warmup and Million - may do APAT depending how first two are going

Out in 18th......Really struggle late on in tourneys unless I hit cards of course! Is there any tips for dealing with dead cards and increasing blinds?? Hard to raise them when you have a raise behind you.

Lost with AQ v AK, thought he was stealing so went all in.

Playing like mould, got up to 7K on the 100K. Then raised 2K with a pair of 10s, one caller, Q high flop, get pushed all in and fold. Then with about 4K chips, call an all in with JJ and see QQ.

Cash table raise with QQ, get reraised, and push all in and he turns over the obvious AA. Not good...
