Well, it took me five days of 'mostly' solid play to get it all back.

$500 withdrawn today, and hopefully this will be my routine in the future.

Great work, what stakes are you playing these days?

My preferred stakes are $0.50/$1.00, but I will play one level above or below too.

My weakness is playing full ring when there are no short handed tables going, my game isn't really suited to it.

Got up to 10K in PLO H/L tourney, 4 to the bubble, got A2QK all spades, raised to the maximum, got reraised and called by two others, one has AA, one has most junk but all clubs, AA hits two pair on the river which makes the other guy a flush, so half stack gone and then get two playable hands in a row, lose both of them and out in 46th (45th gets paid). :moo:

He was 4th when there were still about 900 left when I went to bed so a good performance to hang in all the way.

I had a nightmare day yesterday - outraced, out drawn, bad beated, coolered, laptop thrown out of window sort of day!

At one stage got all chips of a goodish stack in with AA only to be called by 5 people ffs!! Beaten by an AK off hitting runner runner flush.

Finally managed to cash in the last two of my day only for my KK to run into AA when sitting 30th of 70 in the 26K- which was so bloody predictable I just had to laugh in the end.

Am clearly in a huge variance downswing at the moment - hard to persevere through it and keep the belief in my ability but I guess I'll have to keep plugging away

Just played a coupe of sit n go's. Finished second in both.

Was all in heads up with AQ suited. Other guy is all in with K5. Hits his flippen king on the river!

Had this the other day as well. Second is good for making a bit of money, but it leaves you thinking of what could have been.

SnGs are a long term game - wins will come along as long as you keep getting your money in good like that...well obv not for me it wouldn't lol but generally thats the way of things!

This is undoubtably your biggest leak Saul: You gave him $9 to call into a $40 pot, - so his play is mathematically correct.

You must deny people the right odds - in this case by shoving the turn.

Yeah, i watched you in the 17k and 16k I think. Brutal for the length of time you play to end up cashing for not much more than your buy in.

It was a quality final table with Apestyles, Jordan Morgan and Mr Big_Queso. Not sure who ended up winning as I couldnt be arsed watching the heads up at 3 in the morning.

The most brutal beat was Morgan winning a 1.5m pot with 74o against AQ all in preflop

TBH Beta versions are generally pretty close to the final version - the main bugs are often ironed out in the Alpha testing. I've used and installed Beta versions of a variety of software (including PokerEV) with no problems.

:) Good luck for the other tournies

My other favourite yesterday was being in the big blind and having it limped by a couple of people. Im sat there with 72o

Flop comes 872 rainbow. Limps around again, I raise. Get reraised all in (was a shortish stack) and I call. The guy turns over 82o. for a higher 2 pair

I nearly fell off my seat laughing as he had limped behind 2 other people

Finished 24th in 1000 runner tourney, pretty sick though, consistently kept getting called all in to any reraise by bloke to right, shoved back at him with A7 he shows AA, battle back to 30K, get all in with 88, guy calls with AQ hits his Q, again battle back to 35K, tournament is 6 handed, then get moved to table with top 5 players and me all with big stacks, big stack then doubles up with all in push with 25 and hits 25 on the flop, get A7 next hand, everyone limps, flop comes out A7J, raise into the pot get called all in, call one of the big stacks and he turns over trip Jacks. And go out. Crazy

monumental screw up in the $40k...

was going reasonably well about 30 of 60 with 27 to cash when I shoved from small blind with J9off - unfortunately as I pressed the mouse button I noticed that it wasnt an unopened pot after all!! I had been looking at another screen and completely failed to spot the initial raisers cards on the table!

Naturally he had AA and had me covered.

Thought this was quite amusing.

Had been sitting at a table for about 45 minutes waiting for other people to join, finally this chap sits down (played with him a fair bit over the past month).

The other player is sitting out, so I decide to play heads up for a bit.

Has anyone else had problems on Betfair, specifically regarding being able to see their cards? I had a phone call in the week from them after recently downloading the software asking if I wanted to be entered in the weekly welcome freeroll. I have just won it for $100 which was nice but in at least 40% of the hands I could only see one of my hole cards and on quite a few occasions only one card in the flop. On some hands I'm sure this helped me as I folded as opposed to trying to steal but it was extremely bloody annoying. All I could see was a series of lines on the cards.

playing like mould at the moment, 6 handed table tourney get AK, raise preflop 3 callers, flop comes AJ4, get a 200 bet by guy to left, its early on in the tournament, but my chip stack isn't great, so it's all in or fold, so I go all in, he of course shows A4 for two pair and the board gives me no help. Only left in one tourney now. Losing every 50/50 and 60/40 push.

best move and argument of the night. Guy raises with AK to about 4 x BB, guy raises behind him, the AK raises to about 2750, the other guy calls. Flop comes 2 6 10 rainbow, all the money goes in. The guy wins with 2Q (suited of course), and hits two pair on the turn, but AK missed anyway. He only had 1700 left after called with the 2Q. AK goes mental, asks why he calls the AK pre flop raise, Q2 says he knew the other guy had AK and "took a chance". AK goes on tilt mode and spunks the rest on AQ when he again misses the board in about 2 hands, and he had about 12K.

$171.76, soon as I go out, 2 go out next hand, would have pushed me to $300, final table min $600, top 8.5K. So disappointing, 7 hours for that.

ul Saul - good effort though. I'm probably shoving preflop there to avoid difficult decision later - he may well have called with his A but it gives him the decision for half his stack at that stage. Its a marginal decision because your short stacked raise does imply strength but the allin gives you more fold equity.

I know what you mean though - its a bad time of a tourney to burn after so many hours effort but unfortunately thats the way it always seems to happen - its the sh!t or bust hand that I was getting the wrong end of the last month and then this week its been going my way - 5 final tables, 2 wins, two fifths and two seventh etc. You just have to hang in there and the wins will come along (says the man who last week was threatening to retire lol!!!)

gg though :lux: :lux:

Well I had 1.2M chips, then went card dead, I will look at HH to see where I could have shoved, I had three hands, all would have put me all in, A10 suited twice, both in early position, and both where people pushed all in behind and 66 which again was significantly raised from late position, all probably behind and one possibility of a coin flip. Was 3rd for about 4 hours which paid 2K and whimpering out is not my style. If I had stayed on original table, would have been top 4 I am sure, being on table with 3 of the top 4 made it pretty hard to get any joy. The donkey who kept calling with any two cards made it further than me as well.

saul1664
16-03-2008, 12:08 PM
Of the hands I looked at 77 was called all in preflop, A10 was put all in preflop, could have played two, 66 was raised 3 x BB, by 600K stack, and A10 was raised 4 x BB by same 600 stack.

Been having a quiet day today after last nights exploits - played the Sunday Brawl as I had already qualified but failed to get into the $1Million guarantee (despite shelling out almost a buyin in satellites :( )

Just finishing the day playing the Bodog 100k which I have played the last couple of days - there's always an overlay and tonight there was only 71k in the pool so you're 33% +EV up already (er...I think!)

The only thing that annoys the hell out of me on Bodog (and Party) tourneys is that you can't see where you stand in the tourney until you get knocked out. I am used to keeping an eye on that on Full Tilt. Can't understand why they dont provide such obvious info?

Ah well - luck ran out on Bodog. Been struggling short stacked for a while and got a spot where button 3bb open raised and I tried a resteal with 45suited - bit weak but I thought the odds were he would fold especially as I showed strength by pot committing myself. he shoved in anyway and flipped 77 so I looked a bit daft!!

I could do with an early night anyway!

The Sunday Brawl final table was interesting yesterday. Purplepils99 bubbled the final table after a killer beat from BoBoJon (or something similar).

Bobojon entered the final table with about the same number of chips as everyone else combined after some monster hands on the final table bubble.

It was funny when it got 3 handed as they were trying to work out a chop but obviously you cant stop so they were fgoing nuts.

Eventually he finished second which must have been sickening. Good entertainment though

you can stop - usually you just all agree to post and fold. effectively just passing the blind money from person to person while they sort it out. But i didnt think Full Tilt allowed deals? I know Stars will help broker them - maybe on TIlt you just have to trust each other to transfer money?

Chester
17-03-2008, 02:40 PM
Yep, i was watching and thinking, why dont you just sit out. They would then sit out for a few hands and then start playing again.

FT wont facilitate a chop and i think the only way is to sort a deal and then hope that the others are honest.

Well I think I neither did one thing or the other. If I want final table, I just fold every hand, if I want to win I get more aggressive (even with nothing), its a definete weak area when I get to top 20/bubble to the final table, final table I seem to be fine, need to work on this.

I have trouble with this too. Recently I had been trying to stick to Harrington's M theory and shove in any reasonable spot once down to M=5 or less and not worry about the bubble - we're in to win. However, it just wasnt working for me and I think that is partly because online people's calling ranges are much wider - and I was getting caught with weak shoves far too often.

So now I have tweaked the theory a little. I am still looking to shove as soon as I get to M=5 (or even 6-10 say with a medium pair from mid position on or AK/AQ from anywhere where I really don't want to see a flop and if I do I want all 5 cards) but I am no longer pushing weak aces or small pairs from too early position for example and if I have to wait a bit longer for decent cards/position then I have been - and waiting for say M=3-3.5 to really start shoving these weaker holdings

No doubt thought that trying to back into the cash and getting blinded away is a mistake - the only time I would really hold on longer is if there is a really crippled stack about to go out - and even then if the right hand/position comes along you have to go with it regardless

Hope that helps - its been working for me anyway!

Nowhere near a final table at the moment. PLO H/L only tournament today, none yesterday, too knackered. Doubled up early but got cracked in the next few hands, got all my money in with trip Qs on turn, got two callers, flush hit the river, left me short stacked with few moves and again got all my chips in with straight on turn, again flush hits the river. Some days you are destined to lose.

Not my day, have 20K in NL tournament, push all in with 44 against short stack, he has JA, rivers straight, and next get all in AK vs AQ, Q on river. 4 consecutive riverings in a row.

Give it a rest. If it bothers you that much, you're a pathetic idiot.

Besides, it's not like I posted details of any of the beats is it?

Anyway, moving on from your pathetic post, back to poker.

I just played some Cash table (25c/50c) 6 handed game, my stats for seeing the flop was very high.

At low stakes, do you lot tend to play a lot of suited or connected cards literally because it's so cheap to do so?

saul1664

18/707

Doubled up to 40K with 88 hitting a set against AA of all things, unfortunately he was big stack of 140K sitting to my left so couldn't play a lot of hands and it hardly dented him. Then pushed all in with 77, one caller 22 who hit his set, and insta push pre flop with AK with 21K left ran into QQ who got a rather needless Q on the flop. Gone deep last three tourneys though.

Will raise with them, but tend not to play with them if there is significant pre-flop action before me, and they play well (as do atc) in position, obviously the better the suited connectors the more powerful position you are in (i.e. 910 JQ are far better to play then 34 45). People do tend to play any two suited cards like they are the nuts, I would prefer if I do play them to have at least a Q as one of the cards, have had people called with 25 suited to up to 24 x BB before and cracking aces, don't know what it's like at the higher levels.

Calm down, dear... No need to get violent. :o

Playing loose (I'll assume loose agressive) only works in position against loose passive players. If I notice a player limping in quite often and I have position on them I'll raise 4-5xBB with almost any two cards and c-bet any flop if they call my raise.

After reading the recent post on the bad beat thread I have a question.

When you flop a set and there is the possibily of others drawing to a straight or a flush, how do you play it? Do you try and win the pot there or do you see another card and hope he misses?

I ask this as it seems that everytime I get trips there are 2 suited cards on the flop and I think I could be up against a flush draw.

The other day I was in a SnG and had pockets queens. I raised accordingly and was called. I then flopped a queen. The flop had 2 clubs on it so I put in a reasonable size bet as I was out of position. The other player then reraised me. I had a feeling he was drawing so I put him all in. He called and I was right. Luckily he missed his 5th club on the turn and river and I doubled up.

Should I have called his reraise and seen another card before putting him all in? Was his call a bad move?

Sorry for all the questions. I find a set very hard to play when I could be up against a straight or a flush.

All advice is welcome.

No you played it perfectly - if you have a set you want to be leading out - if you're reraised and the board is drawy you need to raise again you can't just call.

No, what you want is a call or raise in that situation, can't allow a free card on a draw or flushy flop, if you call a small bet, and a flush or straight possibility hits the board, it puts you in a difficult position and allows you to possibly get bluffed off the board.

I wasn't going to post this originally due to extreme embarrassment!!....

Last night I managed the mother of all cock-ups in the 40k

Travelling along quite nicely with about 7500 chips and blinds 100/200 I was dealt AA under the gun. Now it was quite a solid table and I had already had AA twice in early position only for everyone to fold to my standard raise...so this time I decided to limp in.

Everyone folded round to the small blind who limped and then the big blind raised.. to about 1200 I think.

At this point my mind went AWOL. Normally I would have just reraised but I got to thinking that was a bit too obvious and I wanted to keep him in...so maybe I would just call. But then I thought the small blind might call as well and did I really want to play three way? But then I thought I could take that risk as it was the stage in the tournament where I could really do with a big result.

At this point I timed out and the AA auto-mucked

A similar thing happened to me the other day but it was because I was mucking about with the chat box. It was a fun table with loads of good natured banter. I got too engrossed in that!

Played two tourneys on Tuesday and made the final table in both. One was a magazine freeroll on Virgin (T3 gadget mag) - top spot got a place at the Newcastle Virgin Poker festival. Only 110 runners, mostly the crew from the Punter's Lounge forum.

I had a lovely result early on against a player from PL that I know a bit about. I raised from early position (3x) with pocket fours and he re-raised me by double which was folded round to me. I had been reading about implied odds recently and although it was just the two of us I figured it was a great opportunity to put that into practice. I put him on AA, KK or AK and knew he would bet heavily post flop - he's that kind of player. I called.

The flop was beautiful as I made my set. I checked and he went true to form and shoved. Come to papa. He had pocket aces.

Anyway, by the time the field thinned down I was still alive but among the short stacks. I decide here to play to cash and was ultimately fortunate to break the bubble. 10 got paid and there I was in tenth when I finally got blinded out. No V festival but 20 Euros for a free investment and 90 minutes of my time.

At the same point I came third in a GUKPT satellite on Blue SQ, top two got a place in the $109 super sat (only 11 were in that with 4 seats for Manchester available). I screwed up as I had a massive cheap lead when three handed. I let the short stack get to me, he hung around through luck alone and I overplayed pocket 8s and then top pair trying to finish him off. Suddenly I was in his position and didn't get the luck.

It was pretty nasty as I only got $22. But I had won my place in a 400 runner freeroll and didn't rebuy in either, so it was all profit.

It's micro stuff but all good fun.

Played a few games today to get some practice in. Keep getting bused on the river, quite depressing!
Anyway, lets hope for better luck tomorrow. Flight is at 6am. Think they have live coverage on the APAT.com site. So if any one wants video footage or chip counts you can keep track on it from there!

pretty annoyed with myself at the moment...

made the final table of $11.5k in 3rd place and managed to knock myself out in about 5 hands.

First made standard raise from utg with 1010. short stack in big blind shoved for about half my stack. Should I call? Of course not. Do I call? Of course I do. He had QQ and I am short stack in one fell swoop. Shove Q9 from button and this time big blind has JJ (whatever happened to the random hand they are supposed to have!!)

Grrrr!

OK...thinking it through:

Blinds 5000/10000 antes 500
Me 220,000
Him 110,000

I raise 27500 He shoves 110000

Pot 157000 82,500 to call

Do I want to be in a race or worse for half my stack when I am third at the final table - No.

So therefore I don't want to see him turn over
AA,KK,QQ,JJ,
AK-AJ,KQ-KJ

Is he likely to be shoving with less?

I'm raising under the gun, full table - My range is likely AK, AQs, 99+, maybe you could add in KQs AJs

He has just paid Big blind and could afford to wait for a better spot than shoving on a big stack utg raiser

So....how likely is it that he is shoving 99- , A-J10, 98-

I should have folded - got away from it with 200,000 chips intact
In fact my raise with 10 10 was probably a bit loose in the first place
