Getting your money in good 90% of the time doesn't sound like zero edge, it sounds like a huge edge. Regardless if you're not making money at 50NL (over a decent sample of hands) it's not down to the games being unbeatably tough - either a) poker is rigged b) you're one of the few unluckiest guys in the world or c) you need to improve your game. If you really think you are that unlucky you should log your hands in HEM and look up your Sklansky graph for independent verification.

Anyway I saw this and it made me chuckle:-

It's probably an exaggeration, but I am getting knocked out of each tournament I play always in front, am playing 8 game, 7 left (6 is final table, have about 50K) make straight on flop, and he continues betting with 66 runner runner gutshot higher straight, it was limit and I continually kept raising, then got it in with QQ vs QK, first card out K, it's like every marginal hand always loses. When I started playing poker on the cryptologic network I was playing at much higher stakes than I am now (50/1£ 1/2£), had lot less knowledge than I do now, had not concept of pot odds and value and kept betting on gutshots etc., but won phenomenally more money than I do now without fail almost every session.

Have been trying luck more on Stars than FTP recently but those tourneys are SOOOO huge! nearly 7 hours to battle through 3500 entries to get 37th last night in the 70k rebuy and after all that I turned $30 into $210. Hardly seems worth it sometimes. Not sure I like their payout structure - paying 15% of field makes the prize money for a decent finish like 37/3500 much less worth having - cos they dilute the pool so much to pay lower down

saul1664
10-03-2009, 04:02 AM
Really crappy on stars again, minimum profits for 4 hours play. First I get to 15K, on 2K guaranteed, lost a 4K pot on the river where he made a backdoor straight and I folded. Then got KK, raised to 3.5BB, to look like I was a bit tilty, got put all in by AQ, flop came down 8 9 J, turn is 10 and he made gutshot, had been sitting in 100-150th all the way and bubbled about 10 places outside the money.

Then in the 40K guaranteed rebuy I get up to about 30K, blinds go up to 2K/4K, get whittled down to 21K, everyone folds round to me on BB, antes are 375, I have maybe 5 BB here, so go all in with Q9 not the strongest hand, but someone has to have something fairly decent to call, one stack has 50K, the other has about 18K, 18K stack folds, 50K calls with 44 and I miss my overcards. Why play for 4 hours and risk your whole tournament with 44. So minimum cash, though 8 x buy in. Can't understand the mentality of play on PS.

Has anyone seen the last hand from High Stakes Poker - Epsiode 2 yet?

Very interesting.

The 3 episodes so far have been great. The Eastgate, Durr, Greenstein pot is quality

If you want to hit the other end of the spectrum download poker after dark. Now i am a low stakes player but am convinced i would defeat the majority of these idiots. Some of the hands have had me staring at the screen wondering what the bloody hell is going on. Honestly the play is

Phil Helmuth is also one of the piss poorest players in the world :D oh to have his roll though :(

Example:

PH Kh 9S
Gabe kaplan Ad 8s

PH raises on button Kaplan calls in bb

Flop 3h 5h jh

Check Check

Turn 10s

Check Check

River

2s

Check Check

I mean you raise on the button, flop the 2nd nut draw on the flop, add outs on the turn and lose to A high. F me

Seriously, download these episodes from the start of this series. It makes me a sad panda :(

I think a lot of that is a form of advertising. I don't think too many of them are bothered about winning. They want to get the reaction that you are depicting to give them action when it really matters.

The new series of PAD with the Nets (Raptor, Taylor Caby and CTS) Vs Vets (Doyle, Elezra and Gabe Kaplan) has been quality. Some really impressive play. I have been v impressed by Gabe Kaplan especially after his commentary on HSP

They had 4 of the top 10 out of the last 100 and prob the most agro table ive seen. The high roller SCOOPS are going to be insane

Nice score Saul. Im still playing but no volume whatsoever am either too tired or like this week just having a nightmare and cant play

Afternoon gents.

Quick question - would any of you be interested in playing in a charity poker challenge against a group of Brighton fans?

Most of you will know about their REMF charity which was set up in memory of a regular poster on their forum who died in the 9/11 attrocities. Palace fans have been great supporters of this and it now benefits youth football in the New York, Brighton and Croydon areas.

Over the years there have been fundraising football games, cricket matches and golf events for REMF - all played out between us and them.

I've been thinking of organising a charity tourney for a while and I thought it might be fun to do battle with the seaweed over the baize.

I'd welcome your thoughts.

Yeah I'd be up for this for sure. How would it work?

Yeah I'd be up for this for sure. How would it work?

Great.

Not entirely sure yet, but hopefully a live game with some goodies donated from each club for prizes (we can but hope).

Buy-ins would obviously go straight to the charity. Not sure how they split funds but maybe the overall winner could ask for the largest percentage to go to the area of their choice.

I've not approached the guys who look after REMF as yet. Just sounding you all out first - I'll mention it on their board if the reaction is positive here.

Sounds good :p Buy-ins and possibly sponsorship to a charity prize fund with 1st, 2nd, 3rd winning a standard % and deciding which area to donate to.

The blinds in these SCOOP events are ridiculous, these tournaments could last for days. Just been watching the sickest table and it hasnt even reached bubble.

I played the $55 Medium and $5 Low Scoops last night - went well in the medium until lost 3 flips on the spin and went out about 100 short of the bubble.

Cashed in about 600th of 25000 in the Low for about $100 - which was about 3am from a 7.30pm start!!

My HORSE lasted about 6 hours and there was only 160 runners, anyone entering the 2 day tournament, not too sure if you get a break or not.

Daniel Negraneau got battered so hard in this series it was quite sad by the end. Could not win a pot to save his life.

The best towards the end is Ziiigmund trying to work out who he owes money to

It was so painful watching Daniel get beaten that way. He has always been a favourite of mine, because of the way he talks people into giving him there money. But by the end of this current chapter, he had beaten himself, and it was interesting to see that even an experienced player like him, can let the pressures of poker affect his game as it did.

It will be interesting to see, in the next episode whether he bounces back against the new crew.

I'm pretty sure it's not his own money, as people buy into it, but how much did he actually lose this series?

Saul, I think you may have mentioned it before but why did you stop playing (presuming you play pokerstars more now) cash games at betfair?

No reason. Don't like the layout much, tournaments have bad buy in value and are sparsely populated. I don't play NLHE anymore. Not since I raised 25 x BB pre flop with AA, to get called by 45 offsuit which FHoused. I play NLHE tournaments and strictly PLO cash games as the variance is signficantly lower than NLHE.

Tried the quarter of a million on PS tonight, 26000 entrants, $10 buy in, top 4500 get paid, 10 minute levels, despite the numbers, its not a long tourney, 10,000 gone in first hour, trebled up when I got all in with KK to see 10 10 and 9 9 and it held out. Unable to improve stack above 16K, bad cards and few raising opportunities being on a difficult table.

Cashed in 1620 for $38. Had 6K left and shoved in by big stack on BB, no choice but to call with my weak K3, however his weaker Q9 hit a 9 on the flop and I couldn't improve.

However standard of play certainly wasn't great and not too hard to go deep with a little patience/luck.

Whats the standard in the $215 tourneys?

OK it was a bit tongue in cheek, but not far from the truth. If people are willing to call to a raise and re-raise to 25 x BB pre flop with 45 off to hit their FH, then the variance is worse, you can't put anyone on a single hand and they won't fold their hand ever.

Since playing PLO, I have what I would to consider two bad beats (2 outers) in maybe a 1000 hands compared to probably 100-200 in NL.

anyone fancy a private nlhe tourney on stars tomorrow or a day that suits everyone soon. Would love to see how you guys play and bragging rights are of course a nice thing :) Everyone speak up about a date and i should be able to arrange it, with what buy in and what time. 6 runners or more would be enough for it to be worthwhile imo, what you guys think?

I'd be up for a game - would prefer low-stakes cash but happy to play in a tourney if that's what most people prefer.

Long time since I've visited this thread, but I would be interested in Private Table game on PokerStars or Ladbrokes. When do these games normally start?

Cheers in advance, Mike.

APNewsBreak: Group says poker winnings are frozen

By FREDERIC J. FROMMER – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — An advocacy group for online poker said Tuesday that the federal government has frozen more than $30 million in the accounts of payment processors that handle the winnings of thousands of online poker players.

The Justice Department has long maintained that Internet gambling is illegal, a view that the poker group challenges.

The Poker Players Alliance told The Associated Press that the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York instructed three banks to freeze the accounts.

Documents obtained by the AP show that a judge in the district issued a seizure warrant last week for an account at a Wells Fargo bank in San Francisco, and that a federal prosecutor told a bank in Arizona to freeze an account.

In a letter dated Friday and faxed to Alliance Bank of Arizona, the prosecutor said that accounts held by payment processor Allied Systems Inc. are subject to seizure and forfeiture "because they constitute property involved in money laundering transactions and illegal gambling offenses." The letter was signed by Arlo Devlin-Brown, the assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.

In another letter faxed the same day, Devlin-Brown asks that the bank treat the funds "as legally seized" by the FBI, saying that the government has probable cause that the gambling payments of U.S. residents had been directed to offshore illegal Internet gambling businesses.

A spokeswoman at the Southern District declined to comment.

John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, called the government's move an "unprecedented action" against online poker players.

In a letter Monday night to Devlin-Brown, Pappas said that the funds belong to the alliance's members, and requested that his group be notified and given the opportunity to be heard regarding attempts to seize the frozen funds.

"The PPA will pursue every legal course available to ensure that poker players' funds are not seized and their right to play poker online is protected," he wrote.

some of the 'beats' you put on here make me chuckle.

the money goes in pre flop and you're well behind, how can you moan about hitting your flop and then losing on the river?

If you stuck the money in on the flop with top pair then fair enough, but you didnt.

You are having a laugh, calling 2 x BB with 150 BB behind, A8 hardly a raising hand wtf?

im not. there is absolutely no need to get involved with ace 10 at that stage in the tourney

6 handed min raise you suggest i only play AA

didnt realise it was 6 handed i apologise. imo from looking at your hands over a long period of time ive always thought its yor pre flop play that has let you down

Hopefully this will be a really good doc series that deucescracked are running. First episode was released yesterday and was a really good watch. Reminded me of the spelling bee film :D

edit. seems from reading other forums that they will start production on others after WSOP. Still a good watch though

There really are some top class spazzers on PS. Almost simultaneous gone out on two tournaments, late position first with 10 10, early post raises to 3 x BB, next guy raises to 5 x BB, all call, flop comes 228, nice chunk in the pot, passive around to me, go all in to protect my hand, get insta called by J9, J river.

Second one have KA, blinds about 40/80 this stage again in last position, a few limpers, raised to 3 x bb in front of me, go all in, get called by raiser who calls a pre flop 28 x BB instantly with K9, 9 river.

I logged into Party Poker on Tuesday and discovered they'd given me $175 to play with, and a further $350 which would be released as I racked up Party Points.....

Needless to say, every hand I played with the free money, I got sucked out on.

It was fun while it lasted though.

First elimination of the night, just before first break. Get QQ, small stack has about 1K, I have 3K, blinds 50/100, I reraise all in to eliminate the rest of the field, get a caller behind me, small stack has JJ, other guy has KK, cards come out 5678, but river fails. Cooler city.

Straight Flush No Good for Danzer

We caught this hand as the chips were being counted on the river.

Patrik Danzer held {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} on a board of {5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't good enough to win as his opponent, Christian Jeppsson held ***-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for the royal.

The Main Event of the WSOP has started which means plenty of people with more money than sense are having a crack at playing poker. Prime example right here:

News is just coming to us that during the last level a player left the tournament area with his chips.

According to players at the table the player in question had been steadily drinking and then declared to his tablemates that he was going to the restrooms.

The player then left and it was only after he had gone that the rest of the table noticed that there was only one $100 blue chip remaining on the table when the player had been playing with a stack of between 5,000 and 6,000.

Chips taken off the table in this manner are removed from play and hence he blinded out a few hands later and has now been eliminated from the tournament.

Got involved in a ridiculous hand in the Independent League on Virgin Poker last night. I was chip leader and got heavily raised after one limp - I was holding pocket kings and shoved all-in. The limper and rasier both called and both had pocket aces!

Of course I hit a king on the river!

Joke hand - not that I was complaining.

When I was there, I thought all the foreigners had to pay off of their winnings. Of course, there 30% flat rate was much better than mine.

This headline is rather misleading:

Hachem pays no tax on WSOP winnings

By Lianne Elias

In Australia, a professional gambler usually has to pay up on money made in offshore wins. Not Joseph Hachem, however. The Australian poker player has managed to convince the government that his USD $7.5 million (AUD $10 million) first place prize from the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event were earnings generated through a "hobby" rather than through a bona fide profession. Consequently, the Australian Taxation Office ruled in favor of him keeping his winnings in their entirety.

Hachem's lawyer, Peter Donovan, successfully argued the case that poker was his client's hobby, not his profession, when he won the Main Event; At the time, he was working as a mortgage broker in Melbourne. The government's ruling has saved Hachem from forking over AUD $3.5 million in taxes. Meanwhile, the American government has already taken 30%, or AUD $3 million, of Hachem's win.

Whether or not Hachem will have to declare his future wins as a professional income is uncertain. Although he has decided to take full advantage of his WSOP win to become a full time player, Donovan has claimed it remains unclear as to what category Hachem's new career will fall under in his native country. "The distinction between the conduct of a business and the pursuit of a hobby is often a difficult distinction to draw," he said.

Akenhead might want to watch out for people playing 10 4o

He's 50/50 against aces today. Here's the win whilst all-in.

Jamie Robbins raised to 530,000, James Akenhead moved all in for 2,390,000 and Robbins made the call.

Akenhead Qc Kc
Robbins Ah Ad

Boom! The flop came down Kd Qh Js , the room going absolutely bezerk as Akenhead flopped two pair. The turn was the 7c, the river was the 5d and Akenhead's cheering section exploded, high-fiving their man as he earned a much-needed double-up to 5.09 million.

Rocked up 15 minutes later for some reason.

Chester

Yeah following it too. Akenhead is the one who got it all in heads up last year with AK Vs 104 and the guy flopped a boat and turned quads to win.

An amusing finish to my home game yesterday saw us flipping on the last hand. Everyone dealt in, no one turns over, the board is dealt all the way through and i turn over quad kings :D

Ouch!

Jordan Smith Eliminated in 10th Place ($896,730)

Eric Buchman opened for 650,000, Darvin Moon flat-called from the button and Jordan Smith reraised to 2.6 million from the small blind. Buchman folded and Moon called.

The flop was 8c 4d 2d . Smith checked, Moon bet 4,000,000, Smith moved all in and Moon called.

Smith Ah Ad
Moon 8h 8d

The turn was the 5h, Smith picking up an inside straight draw to a wheel. The river, though, was the Th and Moon took down the pot with his set of eights, eliminating Smith and setting the 2009 "November Nine."

Moon has an estimated 59,770,000 chips.

How bad was Kopp's play to bust out? Quite possibly the worst played hand ever at such a vital moment in a tournament, no need to bust out there.
Billy Kopp raised to 600,000 preflop in early position and Darvin Moon called from the small blind. The flop came Kd 9d 2d and Moon checked. Kopp bet 750,000 and Moon called. The 2h on the turn prompted Moon to once again check. Kopp bet 2,000,000 and Moon check-raised to 6,000,000. Kopp didn’t take long before moving all in for 20,000,000. Moon made the call and exposed the Qd Jd for the second nut flush. Kopp exposed the 5d 3d and was drawing stone cold dead. His stack of over 100 big blinds was handed over to Moon when the meaningless 7c fell on the river. Kopp was eliminated and Moon built his stack to 40,500,000 after the monster hand.
I can't wait to see this on tv. That is truly moronic. But then again Moon was really taking a chance with the call at such a huge reraise.

Jeff Shulman is really the one to watch out for. He really should have been the one to win the Main Event in 2001.

Over a quarter of the chips in play 9 handed is quite impressive. There are some interesting interviews with him (Moon). Begleiter was quite a senior person in Bear Sterns before it went tits up last year.

I think the seating draw has opened it up quite a lot if akenhead, Ivey can get a double and if Shulman can pinch some chips from Moon

Over a quarter of the chips in play 9 handed is quite impressive. There are some interesting interviews with him (Moon).

He hit the deck big time.

His aces always won and he won when against aces, also flopped a flush beating a weaker flopped flush.

I disagree with you. Why such a big re- raise??

From Stveie's perspective, it is early on in a tournament, he has a pocket pair. A big reraise like that suggests either a low pair or AQ AJ maybe kq. As such, he will feel that he is in a 50 50 situation and may want to take the chance to double up. Your raise certainaly does not give you the message that you have AA.

Stevie, would of seen your shove and the other guys call. For me that is a tough spot. At best he must think he is in a 50 50 against AK. Though he is going to suspect that he is going to be behind a lot of the time. Though it is relatively early in a cheap tournament so again making a call is is a play that you are going to get a lot of the time and personally I dont think it is that bad. In a deep stack tournament where I am relatively deep I would definitely fold.

Obviously, when both turn over you are happy with the calls and you are going to win the majority of the time. It is just annoying that they have sucked out on you. Though that is Poker.

saul1664
30-07-2009, 10:31 PM
No, I don't mind the call from Stevie, its a turbo tournament, people will call all in to any bet from 22, you know whatever your cards you will get called to any bet, I beat him any AA beats QQ, its the 88 behind that calls that hits the trips on the flop. It was directly after reraising 50 x BB on a board of 783 with 777 on the flop to be called by 910 chasing a straight that hits on the river and then going on to get AA against QQ and 88 and again losing to the lowest hand. But that is standard on PS.

thing is i am playing 15/30 6 handed, every hand raise to 90 pre flop from any position, next bet is 210, then 420 so what do you do. Ended up short stacked about 1700 left blinds 100/200 have 78 suited not the best hand already have 200 in pot get raised 400 call flop comes 872 rainbow, get pushed all in, I know my hand is fairly weak but have top pair call, he has 10 J, turn 10. What do you do?

There's a challenge in this months poker player magazine to turn $50 into $500, it features 3 ways to do it cash, sit and go or tourneys and a safe way and a risky way.

Am taking the cash route and the easy option, which is to play 0.01/0.02 ring games. They say that gives 25 buy ins and to double up when you reach $100, only that on PS, buy in to 0.01/0.02 tables is $5 so am having to go on each table with a starting stack of $2 which does put you at a disadvantage.

After an hours play I am down 0.50$, I won 2 and a half times buy in on one table but lost two buy ins on two other tables.

First one was when I held top pair with flush draw on flop and called an all in shove to a flopped straight, no other flush cards on turn and river.

Second one was when I dominated A9 with AK and both made flushes on the river, mine was K high, his was A high, I put a pot size bet on the river, he made an audacious reraise, he had a big stack already, figured he might be bluffing but turned over the nuts.

Ironically very first hand I royal flushed and won 0.38$.

Key hands I won over the hours play was when holding K10, called an all in shove, guy kept going all in every hand when 0.01 was on the table and he was winning the small blind, thought he had junk but turned over A5 and I rivered the K. Other hand had JJ, board came low cards he overplayed AK all the way to the river. Then hit quad 5s and made a huge overbet on the river that was called by 10 10 for full house.

Play doesn't seem desperately bad. Will continue to grind to see if I can complete the challenge, if nothing will be good for bankroll management.

saul1664
05-08-2009, 11:28 AM
Up to $61. Was mostly positive variance but down two buy ins in short lunchtime session. Ran KK into AA and rivered nut flush into rivered FH. Even at these stakes wants to make you go into wild monkey tilt.

saul1664

Won't be able to play sat or sun, so 1st week from $50 dollar bankroll is $68.68, + $18.50, not a bad return, should be able to double up in a month.

Its annoying isn't it....welcome to poker lol!

The good news its the lucky idiots that make you money....you don't want to get sick of losing to them! Every time they win against the odds it convinces the fish to keep calling against the odds....in the long run if you are making them pay to get lucky, then the more they call the more you win

will promise to post on here more often with updates on my pogress and interesting poker related theory and other stuff! The APAT's are annoyingly too far away for me to travel to! Especially for only a £100 tourney that lasts longer than the one day. Might go up to one of the DTD monthly deepstacks agains very shortly though!

Review of my play online has been up and down really. Had my BR at the dizzie heights of around £13000 then as low as £3000 and now back up to £5000 armed with a great gameplan and quite possible the route to make hundreds of thousands in the game within the next three years. So all quite exciting.

With the APAT i might well place punts on you two guys! I have played with the fav Neil Blatchley before in a cash game and he is a wiley pro, a great player and one to watch out for. I know Dewi James as well to be a great player. Hope you guys the best of luck and next time i play live anywhere i will let you know. Btw Paul i am desperately trying to qualify for one of the irish festivals in and around winter!

Up to $128 + $28 on week at 0.02/0.05, cruised to $136, but some horriffic sessions over the last two days. AA crushed twice, first time guy pushed 20 x BB preflop reraised him all in he calls 10 K offsuit, and he hit 10 10 K for full house.

Then AA again vs KK, he raised 4 x BB, I reraised to 11 x BB, he raises again, I reraise, he raises, I call and he hits KK on flop. He must know I have aces.

Then yesterday made a bad call JJ vs AA, hit my set, he hit quads. lol

Good to see you again Sam, congratulations on getting married etc. Your posts were always interesting to read and you were a good bloke helping me get a good rakeback deal, etc.

I had to withdraw almost all of my poker bankroll in order to help a relative with mortgage problems. Then just after I withdrew I went on an obscenely bad run which put me at an all time low.

Since then I have been playing with small amounts trying to build it up but it is a lot harder and you feel more pressured. I've been looking for a job too the past few weeks and plan to save for a while and play poker in the evenings but really play properly again when I have some decent money behind me.

Last night I deposited £20 on Betfair went down to $3 then make a brilliant comeback before finishing the night on £200 so hopefully this is the turning point :D

I think he built it up with $2 SnG's, then won a large entry $5 MTT, then continued on with some $5 and $20 MTT wins and a couple of runner ups.
Must be one of the hottest streaks of all time.

He won $20,000 in a two week period, was ridiculous, about every second morning I'd get a message on my phone with a screen shot of the "Congratulations you finished (1st, 2nd etc), you've won $x,xxx"

Erm my poker history as of the last time i used to post a lot on this forum would be that i took down a £200 live tourney for £5500 at the empire casino during its festival. Have won thousands online including two $5000 scores on littlewoods which i take great pride in. Probably going to be a full time pro after i finish uni next year. Otherwise my background of what i am doing currently can be found on my blog, but as i assume you guys haven't been on it recently i will post up my most recent blog entry.

"Hey

Had been playing non stop for about 6 days recently for 10 hours a day and found myself averaging around £500 a night which is incredible. Been targeting what i believe to be the weaker euro tournies to achieve this goal and i have been having relative success with this. I particularly love any 6-max tournies going on because shorthanded, i am rather a better player because i find that people really don't appreciate the often deep stacked nature of these tournies and play a lot looser so i just sit back and wait for my spots, because you are given time to wait! This gets me on to another point in that the ultra long structures in online tournies suits me down to a tee! This is for the same reasons given above and that i am beginning to have the patience of a saint in slow playing these fools and maximising profits from the legitimate hands i get.

Starting now to dislike the 10-30$ freezeouts on sites because of how quick the structure rises and how hard it is to maintain a stack when you often get played back at all the time. So i have just given these up on many of the sites in favour of rebuy tournies with slower structures, and also in the rebuy periods the potential to get huge stacks from going all in with AQ-JJ pre flop and getting an ace-rag call is great. In these tournies it is much easier to maintain a stack as you often get more respect for raises as you are often playing much more deep and you also then have room to bluff flops in position that you have missed. It also gives you the opportunity to guage your oppenents liking/disliking of the flop/turn/river and gives you the chance to play accordingly. So safe to say that i am often playing only rebuys nowadays! However, i do play the occasional high value freezeout with lower starting fields, as i believe that people play tighter in these because they think they have a higher chance of success because there are less people to go through which is true and isn't true because i am sure there are expectant sharks that enter these tournies waiting to prey on the nervousness of some of these players.

Have given up for the meantime on full tilt poker and pokerstars on the general conception that they are tougher games, however i am starting to think i have made a broad stereotypical labelling of how good the American player plays and should really back myself in certain tournies. But i was talking to Fenix about this and i said that i plan to load my bankroll up on the euro sites first so that i have a comfortable bankroll to face up to the full tilt and pokerstars high limit tournies from 20r to 100r/300f which could have big value if i learn how to adapt quickly. Will probably set a target of how much i am willing to lose so i can play the tournies relatively care free and hopefully it could be the start of something special. But at the moment i find that i am enjoying playing the 10r, 20r, 25r, 50r and the higher freezout tournies from 25 euros to 100 euros on the euro sites too much to give it up with a massive preference and pretty sick success rate at the 6-max rebuys and the double stack freezouts.

Also incredibly i can say that i am somewhat im my element across 12 tables at a time and feel fully confident i am playing near to my best game on every table. I do have one leak though that i will testify to and this is often in the rebuy tournies mid-late on where i don't open raise enough pots in position with looser holdings to try and play flops and win them without going to showdown, also to develop a slightly looser persona to make it easier to maximise value on the legitimate hands i am likely to get. To be honest i am capable of doing this but i am rather lazy in pressing the auto fold button to make things easier for myself in certain spots and so will look to get more involved where i feel i am at my weakest. The importance of playing 12 tables is HUGE because it enables you to tackle variance on a nightly basis where i have to be really unlucky not to final table anything when i am grinding 12 tables at a time for a 10 hour stint. Normally i get thoguh around 30 tournies in this time and its great to say i am able to play these at a high level at the rate i am, many people can only play a tenth of what i do in a night! Gotta thank Will Hill for my 12 tabling ability really because those small view versions of the tables were great (Pro View) and made it so easy to start on 4 tables and add one daily until you found the comfort zone.

Took a break tonight because i am not feeling quite at my best but i will leave you now with one of my proudest sharkscope graphs, i hope the rate on this bad boy continues! I'm quite liking £500 a day tax free! ROI below at 100%.

GL."

I had a nightmare ending, got to within 7 minutes of the end of Day 1 (3am) but was nursing short stack and had to get it in to give myself a chance on Day 2. had to go with J9o in the end - called by A7 and that was me out. Was last out 25th of 157 on Day 1b in the end so really disappointed. The annoying thing is that when I did get good hands (AA,KK,JJ) when I was short stacked in the last two levels all I managed to pick up were the blinds otherwise it might have been a different story

what happened Tim? not like you to be going out early!

Never mind...on to Killarney and Dublin in October

Hey Paul, unlucky mate. Was a good effort to get that far!

Had a bit of a nightmare to be honest with you.

Played 4 hands (other than hands where I stole the blinds). All of which I lost!

Hand 1

Was card dead throughout the first level. Then the hand before the dinner break I got dealt A3 on the cut off. Had been folded around. I flat called. One limper and Small blind and big blind play. Flop comes out A,10,3 rainbow. I bet to try and take it, get one caller. Flop comes out a blank but bringing out a back draw flush. Check, I bet and get a call. The river brings the flush. Checked to me and I check. He shows 10 3 for the low flush. He announces that he thought I was at it and no way on the flopped two pair. Would of won a big pot if it hadnt of been for the end flush. Down to 8K.

Hand 2

This is in Level 3. Again had been card dead. Look down at 10 10. Two limpers. I raise to 500 to take it down. I get 1 caller. Flop comes out A,J,4. I continuation bet hoping that my lack of play and pre flop raise would signal strength. It didnt and I got min raised. Folded as the guy hadnt played much and felt I was likely behind. Down to 7k.

Hand 3

The very next hand I get dealt 10 10 again. 3 flat callers to me. I decided to raise again to 500. I got two callers. Flop comes out JJ4 with a flush draw. I bet the flop and get one caller. Slightly concerned but still feel I probably am ahead. The next card brings out another J. I bet and get called. I know I am ahead to any flush but behind to the quads and over pair. I know the guy that I am up against and he plays any two cards. The river comes out a blank. I check it to him and he bets minimum into it. I dont want to call but have to call and he shows quad jacks. Down to 2.5k.

Hand 4

First hand after the break after level 4 I look down at 88. Nows my chance. I raise but dont push wanting some action. I get one call. The flop comes out 10,5.2. I push all in as it isnt that badder flop for me. He calls showing pocket twos for the flopped trips.

I then went to play in the £50 freezeout and proceed to finish on the bubble!

All in all, it was one of the most frustrating periods of poker I have ever played in. I was dealt Zero hands except for the 10s mentioned above. my run was that bad, that the zero hands even include marginal hands like kq, kj or k10 even. the highest a i was dealt was with a 4!

oh well, that is the way poker goes. onto the next tourney whenever that is!

Stacked off about 7 times today, when in front every time and done on the river every time, almost always at the end of a session when well in front wiping out profits each time so was a bit frustrated. Then lost a $20 pot (quite big at 0.02/0.05 level) when I flopped the King high flush, and he flopped the nut flush, though I had the chance to lay it down. Also lost a set of 7s to 89 that hit runner runner straight on turn and river so my patience probably at an all time low. Left before I got a warning. Lol.

Pretty disastrous session on new level, lost 5 buy ins. Perhaps could have got away from one, where I had top pair on a 10 7 2 board got all in with it, he had JJ which he had flat called.

Then 2nd nut flush vs nut flush (both on flop), AA < 9 10 which flopped his flush and I was drawing dead, and KQ on a K x x flop < A6 which hit runner runner gutshot straight turn and river. Hope it picks up or I'll be back down a level :(

Pokernoob had a tough decision. Theres a 100k in the pot in a blind war and on the river theres a A98T4 board. Pokernoob checks and Roland de Wolfe bets 95k into the pot. Pokernoob tanks for a bit and then makes the call.

Roland de Wolfe shows Pokernoob one K and says K high. Then Pokernoob just looked at him stone cold and says show both. Roland de Wolfe doesn't want to!

He closes the king card and puts BOTH cards forcefully into the muck, pushing away the dealers hand. The cards touched the muck and were even under other cards.

Instantly Pokernoob slams open Q6 for Q high and says YES!

LOTS OF CONSTERNATION. Roland de Wolfe goes like my hand is better! Floor is called over and after a short discussion the floor manager declares Roland's hand dead and the pot of 300k is shipped to Pokernoob.

Playing in the Boyle International Poker Open in Dublin next month. They have an interesting little twist in that you start with 8000 chips but if you play online and accumulate 250 VIP points in both August and September you get an extra 2000 starting chips for the live tourney - much wailing and gnashing of teeth about this online but in fact it proved to be about 2 hours work 4 tabling at .5/1

Now the side effect of this was that I discovered I can beat .5/1 at Boyle (or at least i think i can) - which is pretty unusual for me playing cash which I otherwise gave up on ages ago

So my question for you cash regulars is ...what would be considered a decent BB per 100 hands win rate at .5/1 full ring?

And secondly, if any of you would like to tell me if these stats are showing up any glaring leaks feel free. thanks..... i'll return compliment with tourney help fwiw! its over about 10000 hands

http://tinyurl.com/newtkh

PS yes I know i havent included my BB/100 lol!

Friend of mine has turned a $10 starting account offer into $28,000 over a two month period at PokerTime, mainly from big MTT's.

My poker graph looks like a heart beat graph at the moment...
that's awesome. my mate turned £25 into £200k in about 6 months  bought a porsche in cash at the age of 19!

he is still at uni with me but tends to just party and play poker, he goes to macau a lot to play and is in Vegas now for his 21st.

That might be the weirdest hand I've read of since... yesterday (some TV game where Frank Lebouef only called on the river with the nut flush against someone's straight flush or something). Can't believe at least there isn't more going in on the flop, and nothing at all going in on the turn or river.

saul1664

The table was volatile and its like all the players were on uber tilt, so knew I had to bet the AA hard. Once the 3rd flush card hits, more or less certain someone is drawing to the flop. Only consolation is keeping half my stack as if I got it all in preflop, the KK would have called.

Boyle Poker

imo, your raise on the flop suggests that you dont want a call and you have AK AQ or similar but no pair and there is no draw there either. If thats his assumption then the J on the turn is unlikely to have improved your hand either and again the size of your bet suggests that perhaps you dont want a call. However, his call is pretty brave but if thats his read then fair enough! As for the river, well 'that's poker'!

I dont think either of you played it particularly badly.

Paul Romain

Thanks Gav

Ok...here was my play.

PF raise was out of position and I wanted to take it down - but i also had in mind that if i got 1 caller (I didnt expect two limpers to both call that) I was going to bet at any A/K on the flop and check raise any that didnt hit AK to suggest a big over pair. I was prepared for him to float if I bet out and I would have double barrelled on turn (probably) but I really didnt expect him to call a check raise with nothing. I would probably have shoved the turn anyway but it was a no-brainer when the J hit as it was a near pot sized bet and I thought was consistent with the overpair I had represented.

He actually insta-called the turn shove! As soon as he did that I expected him to flip over 66, 88 or slow played AA-JJ but 77! I mean he didnt even stop to think about it and he was hardly committed! Gob smacked. As you say if that was his read etc....but he is effectively guessing not reading cos I could easily have played any pair above 55 that way and been beating him as well as AJs maybe - I don't think he should still have been there on the turn but I don't see how he calls allin then...still

That was actually the third big pot i played in the session and I got rivered in the other two as well AA getting done by AK and even worse my QJ flopped a straight with AKT and the initial raiser got it all in on with A9 for chrissakes! He runner runnered a full house AAATT!

I havent played today lol!!

If it is any consolation Paul I love the aggression in the hand above. You're playing aggressively against a guy with a really marginal hand and forced him into some big decisions, which he effectively got wrong and then got lucky on. If he really thinks he's ahead on the flop surely he re-raises you?

saul1664
15-09-2009, 01:04 AM
Got one here. It's the dreaded KK again. Can anyone give any reason why the guy would insta call the over the top shove. Had a reasonable stack but was not active or loose before or after this hand...

I guess at these limits you are likely to get a lot of loosish calls, especially to an allin shove thats giving him better than 2/1 to call a dry board with a gutshot, overcard and backdoor flush draw....I might call that myself

saul1664
15-09-2009, 11:56 AM
Would understand if he had been a calling station or maniac but he was neither. Very strange.

Paul Romain
15-09-2009, 12:28 PM
nothing to do with being a calling station. Its not as if he's caling down three streets with not a lot. He's getting decent odds to call all in on a dry flop when he will expect to see a bluff a lot and he has decent number of outs if not....as I say, its marginal but I would call and I can see why he did

saul1664
15-09-2009, 09:23 PM
I don't see what odds he gets. He must be about 12% on the flop and he commits a whole buy in, even if I have AK AQ, he is well behind, being generous for the runner runner flush he still can't be less than 4/1 to win the hand and is getting nowhere near that. I raised pre flop and shoved over the top. He has 4 outs on the flop, I wouldn't have called that a decent number.

Although I don't know if that sort of move is profitable, had KK out of position, one raiser to 0.35, flat called, flop came out 356 (two hearts), he bet out $1.30, thought unlikely he had 47, maybe a reasonable pocket or something with the flush draw, put him all in and he showed 666 for trips and lost 1 and a half buy ins causing me to go from $15 up to $2 down for the session.

Poor session, flabergasted I only lost 1.5 buy ins, at one stage down 4.5. This one was ugly...

Finally progressing in 0.05/0.10. Variance is unfeasably ridiculous, but after stagnating for two weeks now up to $310, + $105 on the week, hoping it will be more stable at 0.10/0.25.

Funny week of poker, now up to $316, about half a buy in up on the week, despite playing stacks of poker, which also coincided with a shockingly bad run of variance, where I lost 8 consecutive buy ins, which I have only just come out of, having won about 7 buy ins in the last two days. Just outdraw after outdraw, running bad for 5 days, KK became a curse and lost with it 15 times in a row. Had to tighten up and just super grind it back up. Even lost (it was a tiny pot) when A5 made a full house with AJJ on flop and J on turn, river to come J for a split pot! Now back to (fairly) normal with just the occasional beat, hoping to go upwards and stay upwards this time.

Been playing in the odd tourney alongside cash. Was doing well in 6 handed tourney, up to 17K, blinds were 100/200 when picking up 10 10, raised to 4 x bb, one caller, flop came A33, both checked 10 on turn for full house, all the money went in, he turned over AA for higher full house, didn't put him on that as he didn't reraise with the aces, lost about 11K on that hand and ended dropping to 3K.

However, worked my way back up to 9K when this happened. Bit of a shocker. All the money went it pre flop and he was last to act to a raise and a reraise, anyone explain why he calls the reraise with 35?
