First one would raise more pre flop and post flop but doesnt look like he is getting away from the hand whatever you do. Thats obv unlucky ;)

Second one is standard all in pre flop jobby and again just unlucky, nothing would have changed that hand.

Third one, you played it strong pre and post flop and looks like you lost the momentum calling on the turn when if you raise again, he cant possibly call with all those overcards. If you're calling then you're basically saying he doesnt have any pair and therefore you raise and he folds.

Its easy to talk a good game i know, if i was in your situations, the first 2 i wouldnt have played particularly different, the third one I wouldnt be getting that attached to 99. Once you called both the turn and the river did you honestly expect to be beating what he had? Granted you wouldnt put him on 555 but even so I would expect to be comfortably beat by an A or K

First one, I think you can lay down on turn, though it's difficult to, he has an equivalent stack to yours, why is he shoving there, he showed a lot of strength.

It's 2% chance you will run into AA with KK pre flop statistically so it's almost a never fold, though he knows you have aces.

Third one, don't know why you need to play 99 like that with 2 overcards on the board or that aggressively pre flop, as people will call with virtually any two cards preflop, any overcard is bad for you.

Personally I think you played it well and had every right to push all in, he folds then all well and good, he calls and you're unlikely to be an underdog (only Kings, aces or a set starts as fav against you as far as I can see)

Probably best wait until someone who knows more than I do replies though...

saul1664
10-02-2010, 04:51 PM
You have two overcards and flush draw so 15 outs, nothing wrong with getting money in there, if you flat call, you probably don't get much more out of the hand when the heart hits.

Lost the HH, but picked up Kings, was a turbo tourney, all flat called to me so shoved all in to get three calls to run into 10 10 vs AA vs AA. Opened up another tourney (turbo), blinds going up quickly, loon to my right calls anything get QK, flat called no raises have 23K, flop comes Q 9 4 (two hearts), he bets about 1/3rd pot, know he is weak, shove all in for 23K, he insta calls with 9 and 2 kicker, turn 9. Lol.

Although disappointed for only 5th, was 1/7 on final table had AJ on an AJ2 board, all the money ended up going in, he had AK, and hit the K on the turn, which halved my stack, guy who ended up chip leader I had down to 30K, when blinds were 2/4, just kept outdrawing me, mostly with chuff, was raising every hand and playing every pot but kept hitting all the time, managed 4.5 x buy ins on 25 cash as well so not too bad, about $400 on the night.

Anyone playing poker still, gone very quiet, what about the big tourney players, poolking and such.

Am doing alright at the moment, mainly playing 0.10/0.25 PLO, used to 4 table NLHE, but cannot win at the game, the edge seems to be better in PLO, obviously variance a bit higher, but playing 2 tables seems to be better than 4 NLHE.

Since cashing $540 for 1st in PLO tourney, have had sparse results although picking up $177 in $3 PLO tourney when initially 22nd out of 22nd with blinds at 2500/5000 and holding 11K was a highlight, especially arriving at final table with just 26K, tourney cashes sporadic since then, though that maybe because I am trying to reach the higher echelons of payouts rather than money around the bubble.

Anyway, initial $50 up to over 1.1K now.

Excellent work on building that bankroll. Mine went from 200 to 800 when I was playing microstakes cash NLHE on 'Stars regularly but I stopped for ages and didnt take it as seriously when i got back, so I'm back where I started.

I do love the game when I'm really concentrating but I suffer tilt a bit too much to be profitable.

HE cash has MASSIVE swings, its not unusal to lose $500 in one day and win $500 another playing HE cash at the lowest possible stakes on stars. DO NOT PLAY NLHE WITH YOUR BANKROLL!

This post doesnt make any sense

It's impossible to lose $500 in a day one tabling 1c2c.

this is a good article on bankroll banagement

Yep

Made 2 final tables tonight

1st a 10k gtd, got a sick beat, guy trying to steal blinds, I had AK so min raised, he shoved (was big blind) showed 9,7 diamonds, i hit king on flop, but it was a diamond, and you know the rest.... hit flush on river, came 9th for $300.

Then 2nd was a 6k gtd speed

came 5th for 450, got dealt AK, shoved, got a caller who just had me covered, he showed AQ, hit his Q on turn

Have been playing $25 6 handed sit and gos. Apparently PokerStars have this promotion Battle of the Planets, you play 20 or 100 (!) in a week and you get points for 1st or 2nd, or if you play up to 27 runners, points go up to 5th, though obviously these are harder to win.

Prize money for first 20, $900 for first down to $60 for 20th, theres no additional entry fee. Top 10 get entered into a monthly 50K tournament with 70-80 runners (though it's a triple shootout so would be the equivalent of winning 3 sit and gos in a row to win).

Now, I used to be probably the worst sit and go player in the world, but have completed 20 games and have cashed in 15, two more I should have cashed in but got bad beats, 3 I deserved to lose, also heads up finished 2nd a lot of times where I should have won. Standard seems to be abysmal to say the least, no one seems to have a clue how to play when 3 handed.

Anyway am sitting joint 4th with one days play left (have completed block of 20 games), leaderboard is for completed games so cannot be overtaken by people on the list though others could get a better score, but currently in line for payout of $250, with guaranteed $60.

just came 6th in 10kgtd for $500

But so annoyed

Was chip leader for about 90 mins of the last 2 hours i played! At one point had over a million chips and the guy in 2nd had about 300k..... hit a few flops to get to that point then for last hour couldnt hit a thing, would raise it up any half decent hand to as I had such large lead but kept getting called by stupid all ins that would suck out and as I say couldnt hit a flop on final table, very annoying.

Ended up shoving A9 Suited and got called by pocket 8's and he hit set on flop

pay out is up to 16

get pocket queens, raise to 3xBB, 3600, BB re-raises to 7200, i call, flop comes 3 5 5, He checks, i shove my remaining chips, 18k..... he calls, shows 3 5 for a flopped full house.....

WTF

How could he re raise with 3 5 off

What a joke

10k rebuy, first hour

get dealt pocket 9's, raise 3x BB, 2 callers, flop comes K93 1st player shoves all in, 2nd player calls, i shove all in, 2nd player got me covered and calls.....

He turns over pocket kings, 1st player shows J10

pretty sick flop for me

so I rebuy

manage to build up chip stack again....

last hand before 1st break and end of rebuy, im BB holding 93, flop comes 934..... i bet half pot, get a re-raise ..... I shove all in with m2 2 pair, he turns over pocket 4's for a set...... lol not my day....

playing a 10k gdt rebuy tonight, paid to 40 places

Had 38k in chips as it reached the bubble, blinds were 2k/4k.... had chip leader with 150k to my right.... everyone kept folding as nobody wanted to commit while on bubble... anyways i got dealt AQ in small blind, chip leader raised all in as he knew nobody would commit as on bubble.... I called, he showed 5 2 off..... hit a 2 on flop to knock me out instead of doubling me up to 80k.... so annoying, came 41st and paid to 40 places... i was pissed off

blinds 1.5/3k, 38k in chips, pays to 60th...... chip leader at table raises it up to 12k, ive got pocket kings so i shove pre flop, get a caller and chip leader also calls, 1st guy has pocket 7's, chip leader pocket jacks.... im well ahead.... flop comes, no harm, turn comes, no harm.... river comes A clubs, to give chip leader a ace high flush, he has jack of clubs, 4 clubs on the board... out in 66th.... its just wrong and making me very angry..... best hand is losing way too much

saul1664
24-04-2010, 12:06 AM
I think you need to ask yourself why you are getting short stacked at this point in the tourney, where your premium hand has no real value as you are going to get called with any two cards, reducing the fact that you may be a 80% favourite into a 52% one or even not a favourite against two drawing hands.

LLCOOLSTEVE
24-04-2010, 12:18 AM
Ok, now really really angry

5k gtd, first hand, get dealt pocket kings, raise it up to 4 x BB.... someone shoves all in.... I call, he shows AQ, flop brings nothing, turn nothing, river brings a 4th diamond, he has queen of diamonds, I have King of spades and King of hearts, exact same hand as previous tounry that i lost to a flush!!!!

Its pathetic, party poker is a con

You had 38K with blinds 1.5/3K, you had 12 x BB, slightly less with antes, that is chronically short stacked, the stacks on the table and the average stack is irrelevant to wheter you are short stacked or not.

iamanuplander

12 bb "chronically" short stacked late on in a tourney when everyone else is playing similar? Give me a break.

Also with 12 bbs there is fold equity late on, but as you suggest earlier "you are going to get called with any two cards". It may be that you are used to deepstack tournies on the US sites but on euros it plays quite a lot different.

To be fair on you though and to avoid starting a dispute i know the point you are trying to get across is you need to make sure late on you have a comfortable amount of bbs so that you can abuse the tight players on the bubble by playing more aggressively in the mid stage. As it will improve your chances of finishing real deep although at the increased chance you go out earlier by trying to get that comfortable stack.

I'm pretty sure all of the big dog online tourney players always look to find spots in the mid stage to get real big or go out so that they are in a good spot to accrue further chips by just being huge and bullying. Much better than shove folding just as late on with 12 bbs.

Obv though with the latter technique you are making more bubbles, just not as frequwently as the big stack technique.

What I am trying to get across is what other players have is irrelevant. You are short stacked in relation to the blinds and antes, the only consideration on other players stacks are who you are pushing against. You have no fold equity, a big stack will call with any two reasonable cards, as will a smaller or medium stack.

Steve seems to do well, but when he posts he does seem to be around the bubble and short stacked in these situations and because of this is getting outdrawn. It's not a criticism, because he seems to be doing well, but there may be something in his play to explain why he is getting to the bubble short stacked a lot of the time. It may be that in these tournaments, there has been nothing that he could have done to increase his stack size, but then again there might have been.

For example, you get AK, you reraise and you have a healthy chip stack, big chip leader goes all over the top, he has been doing it with a few hands, do you call for all your stack or fold waiting for a better spot as he likely has a worse hand. It really depends whether you want to win more tournaments than hit the bubble or not go beyond it much.

Also as poker evolves and gets more saturated, you can't play like you used to, it used to pay to be aggressive around the bubble as other players would fold to make it into the money, now 90% of the time people will call, even with weak aces because that it what so called experts/books/magazines tell you to do. If someone 3 or 4 bet you it was ALWAYS aces, now it could be anything.

i dispute that with 12 bbs you have no fold equity that is bollocks. You only have to see the hands steve was up against to realise that the other guys had genuine holding as in the 77 and JJ he was up against. The other time it was a big stack pushing in front that made he hold a poorer holding. I have no idea where you are getting the idea that with 12 bbs ppl are calling ure shoves with anything. That is just nonsense. Steve would back me up here along with most poker players.

I think the SB shove with fives was right.

He could be button raising with anything, and a smaller 3 bet puts you in a horrible position if he shoves. Also, calling doesnt really work as you're oop and the odds for set mining werent quite there.

No probs, enjoyed it.

Yep, slight favourite against that hand, slight underdog against his calling range - 45% vs the top 20% of hands. Still the right move, as a fold is the most likely result and if you win the flip you're in a good position to go on and take the win.

Excowboy

Anyway i am going to let you all know about my challenge that i am setting to myself.

It involves starting playing at the $5-$4 stakes on pokerstars and full tilt and hopefully moving into the bigger $24 buy ins before i move my whole roll to the euro mtts where i will dominate like i have done before.

I am going to post my "scheduled" and my "SNG" pokerstars and full tilt graphs up now and i am looking to see if i can 12 table myself into a small fortune.

Here is how it stands. The attachments below are titled accordingly. Binked huge twice on pstars scheduled. And i am already doing well in ft sngs, but take note of what these graphs look like now cos i hope to see them be improved immensely over the next few weeks as i am sort of scrapping my euro sng schedule for the ft and ps one.

So lets see how it goes and wish me luck! Comments are welcome and if you guys are setting up new challenges as well lets hear em!

first of all pocket 8's, ive got 30k chips, someone goes all in for 6 k, i call, someone behind me shoves all in for 28k, i cant call that, so i fold, he shows pocket aces but an 8 came on flop!! so id have won with a set..... then i get k9, on a A,J,10 flop, do some more chips there chasing a flush and straight draw...... then i get pocket jacks, 4 people limp in, i shove all in as im BB, one caller, he shows pocket kings, got him covered so get 5k back.... then get pocket 8's again, im small blind..... everyone folds round to me, i shove again hoping to just steal BB, he has me covered and calls shows AK, and hits the straight on the river........incredible... I knew after getting pocket aces 3 times in an hour that things would go against me!!

Chip leader by about 100 chips in a s'n'g when I get cowboys, push heavily and get re-raised. pshed all-in and called by other large stack (about 180 behind me)

flop is 727
turn K
river 7

Beautiful full house beaten by quad 7's. (he had A7 :grrr: )

Furious.

Jeez

next tourny

got 9k in chips, pocket aces, a raise and a re-raise in front of me, i go all in....both call, 1st guy shows pocket jacks, 2nd pocket 8's, both the 8 and the jack come on the flop to give both a set.... i go from best to worst and crushed!

Did have a big stack in a PS tourney got AA, similar stack to mine goes all in early position, another flat calls, I get my money in and amazingly get another reraise behind. Original caller from early position has 99, the other guy has KK, the guy who reraised over the top has JJ. Know I am going to get raped here, and the board comes out 5672 and a gutshot 8 to give 99 the straight on the river went from 80K to out and he scooped a 400K pot.

Good work steve. I strive to be back up and playing on the euro site mtts again. Would be fun to join you in your grind and compare results and discuss how you can be as good as me haha only joking of course, thought i would do a brian clough comment on you there. Keep it up sir.

An update on how im getting on to happen after my disgustingly violent grind tonight involving i would say 8 hours of 12 tabling non stop so i would say 50 sngs? Bring this sh*t on!. If any of you are bored rail me on full tilt as "anup returns". Cheers.

BB calls me, had had about 160k in chips, showed A9...... ok quite good position i thought, until he flopped 4 of a kind Aces!!! wtf!

so I bubbled, payed to 60th, out in 63rd

Nice score. Cannot cash in tourneys to save my life at the moment, 8th out of 17 in PLO with 50K, managed to implode it and only finish 15th but in the money.

Things like the following happen, early stages, have KK on the button, standard raise to 4 x bb, under the gun reraises for 2 x bb more, so I 3 bet to 16 x bb, he calls, flop comes j42 (two clubs), bet pot 800 to protect hand, he insta raises double, I put him all in, he has JA no flush draw, turn J river J for quads.

And again against a loose player he raises I put him all in with 10 10 as I know his range is wide, he tanks for about 40 secs, makes the call with 8s and quads them.

saul1664
03-05-2010, 07:59 PM
Anyone playing the scoop events on pokerstars, crashed and burned on the $250K rebuy, first got done early on when I raised with AK and got insta shoved all in, knew he was shoving light he had 7 10, river 7, rebought and added on and got to about 20K, blinds 75/150, got J10 raised to 3 x bb, flop comes out 789 (2 clubs), small stack bets 2K, I put him all in, then someone else comes over the top, small stack shows J10, the other stack who has me covered who bet 3 way out of position with 68 of clubs, rivers the 8 high flush to scoop 3 way.

Then playing in 40K guaranted, had AJ, ended up in a 4 way pot was med to small stacked, two aces came out, felt my AJ was good, and ran into AK which hadn't been raised pre flop with 4 players in the pot.

Well since i started my challenge i have decided to play exclusively on full tilt and the 45 or 90 mans there. Have made a profit of $411 so far but have hardly put the volume i want in. And i am also hindered by that i am only playing the $3 games so i think i am doing pretty well.

Just all about careful br management, and going up the stakes when u can afford to. I know i can beat the 26$ games hands down, but i havent the money to play them so patience needed. i will get the graphs up tracking my progress soon.

I have only played $6 and mainly $3 sngs for this on full tilt exclusively, no other site needed, this means no Pokerstars as well obviously. I'm loving it atm. Putting in good volume 12 tabling playing about 40 tournies a day and making at least $100 a day from such measly limits. The going is so good i am going to go for a mtt schedule of four tournies toalling $74 today as its a sunday! haha.

To compare i started the challenge on 475 games $1250 prof, new graph reads 790 games, $2210 prof. Onwards and upwards hey lads! Roll on the million!

Can't win a hand. Chip leader in 10 man sit and go ($27), 5 left, get JJ, on table where everyone calls a raise so they raise round, significantly reraise, one caller flop comes 962, about 1.5K in pot, out of position, not been reraised so unlikely to see QQ KK AA, other guy I have covered by about 500 chips, go all in (it's an overbet, but he can't call). He snap calls with 9A turn 9.

Have gone out of last 12 tournaments shoving ahead at least 78% each time, have lost every single one. Bored now. Where are you playing?

Let me reiterate that it would be sick.

Trying party poker, know LL is on it. Don't know if all the tourney structures are like this, but trying the $33 7K guaranteed, not been able to do anything and mostly card dead.

Blind levels are strange, though 15 mins, its 20/40, 30/60 50/100 100/200, so if you don't pick up some pots/hands in first hour you are playing off a short stack for rest of tourney.

Out in 34th, 30 paid. Couldn't grow stack, had Kc 10c cut off, one flat caller out of position, big stack made up it 3 way. Flop came K44, out of position flat calls again, push him all in, he callled preflop out of position 3 way with AA, club on turn gives me flush draw, river blank. Out. Nothing I could do. No real donk play though.

sounds like you played well ul. I played ipoker for the first time last night in a long while wagered quite a bit of money on all the low buy in tournies ranging from $50f's to 5rs and i was done on the river so many times that i have now got a hate for the site and i think its personal against my ip address. Plainly because i get rivered so much on there from home but the one time i go to play at a mates house on my account i win 2000 in a tourney.

I just can't take that as a coincidence.

Played in the party poker tournies as well though and loved them. The low antes means you can wait to pick your spot and also open betting late on is normally always getting through if you are looking to steal. Its great. Came 4th yesterday in a $5k GTD there and also made two or three other cashes in my grind which i was happy about and i am undoubtedly going to join LLCOOLSTEVE in playing on there regularly now. My name is anupreturns on there if ever you see me btw.

Played ongame as well and feel a little indifferent about it. I lost money on there last night but i know the games are juicy and well worth a whirl so i am not hating it as much as ipoker as i think that site is effectively rigged for me! A way of getting me back on ipoker actually would be for a juicy one off tourney or if i try out a new skin that i grow a liking for.

I know now that i will be mainly playing Full tilt sngs for the rest of my poker days alongside their multis and multis from pokerstars and partypoker. Will be playing some ongame as well and looking to clear $400-200 daily. Going to be tough but i am definately comitted to it as i would love to do it as a proffession after uni. So bring it on!

Great to hear on all fronts :) There are plenty who have made a very good life out of poker, just keep your discipline and you never know, good about the roulette as well

What is in it for a poker site to disadvantage any IP address? Surely

1. They risk losing commission from that player
2. They risk losing their gaming licence and all their customers
3. They probably risk jail
4. They reduce the footflow to their site

Just makes no sense to me why they would especially as in the bigger scheme of things you're a minnow right now. Maybe I'm being naive but as you're not playing the site itself for winnings I don't see what's in it for them (unless you're being beaten by people the site is paying to play perhaps)

Is it not likely to just be a case of a bad run like 14 reds in a row on roulette?

Yeh finbar i believe in jynxes and superstition over hard fact to be honest with you and if i have nasty feeling about ipoker i may well just be playing bad on there aswell over trepidation. However, i have experienced some nastiness on there of late, so just to keep my sanity and bankroll i won't be playing on there.

I will return to crush, hopefully, if i get my bankroll to such a lovely point whereby i will be comfortable in losing 400 in a night on ipoker if it all does go tits up. The session i last had on the euro sites was an eye opener anyway, i lost about 400 but the lessons learned were valuable.

Mainly if its not broke then don't fix it so i will remain on full tilt and only add the odd euro multi if i fancy.

And SE1Eagle i was thinking seriously about embarking on a bankroll challenge on full tilt to go against your variance cry that i would make $1500 a week on there only playing mainly $12 sngs but with some $24 and $6 tourns thrown in there. The challenge wouldn't hinge on clearing $1500 a week though it would be classed over a month, so i would do it over 30 days and i would have to clear $7500 in that time.

I am hardly a big betting man nowadays but just for the fun of it if anyone fancies taking some action from me to the max means of $50 but will take as low as $5 transferred to me on my pokerstars account i will reimburse double if i fail to clear $7500 profits in the 30 day period.

It would be regulated by having a look at my sharkscope graph. Whatever number i start on if i don't make $7500 more than that number by the 30 days from when i anounce i start, then the money is yours people. Multis would not be allowed to count because if i bink huge in the month it just isn't fair.

So any takers?

What pissed me off was that I should have cashed had 8K in chips, blinds were 300/600, just hit the SB and BB, was on the button, then got moved table and straight back on the SB BB, so in 5 hands posted 2K blinds, of course got nothing, wasn't table balanced because anyone got knocked out, they just moved me, think that's a bit out of order, blinds should have passed me by the second time?

Other thing is if you miss registering for a 11pm tourney (know its late for some but thats the time I get home), theres not another one for virtually two hours, so ended up having to go back on stars and almost died, played $11 HORSE, only 236 runners, final tabled, took over an hour for 1 person to go out, got knocked out in 5th after play went on for 5 and a half hours, everyone was trying to do a deal as everyone ****ed off with the amount of time it takes to play, typically hit two pair in stud hand, and he runner runnered 6th and 7th street to make a straight, picked up $123 which is nice enough but five and a half hours, you need to be superman to last the PS pace.

Very interesting to read what iamananuplander has to say about ipoker. I was ploughing my way through the sign-up bonuses on various ipoker sites. Paying in 200 or so & playing $5 6-man sit n gos until my roll allowed me to up stakes to $10. Typically the sites will release double your sign-up bonus in $10 chunks. I'm a very experienced player at these games & average about a 30% ROI at the lower level & half that at $10. I'd done this on Betfred, CD Poker, Mansion & William Hill, but the most recent site I signed upto was Paddy Power. Now I've had bad runs before, but never anything like this. I simply couldn't win. Each time making the money was at stake, I lost. No matter how far in front my chips went in, I lost again & again & again. After 1 particularly horrific game on a Saturday morning where I bubbled after being a huge chip leader this lap-top got an almighty whack! I actually really panicked that I'd broke it & was mighty relieved when that wasn't the case! I went down the gym whilst I calmed down & decided I was gonna play the rest of the day, totally calm & focused & if I saw no improvement in the situation, the only sensible solution was to quit ipoker.
I quit ipoker. I swear I will never play another game on there.

It is of course completely irrational to think that the site would rig a player's chances, but I do have one possible theory as to why it would be beneficial for them. If the better player's cards were to hold up as often as the percentages say they should, the bad players would lose money very quickly & soon lose interest in the game. If they are allowed to win more often than their play merits, it'll keep them coming back for more?

Well sounds like more than enough reason to swerve ipoker to me, not that I've actually played for months now!

Great work on Friday iamanuplander!

Have to say I don't have the patience for the low buy ins, when I do play I normally go for $20 to $50ish buy in, probably explains why I don't win :)

Pocket kings, someone raises it 4 x BB pre flop, im only caller, flop comes 994, harmless enough, he bets the pot, I shove all in, he snap calls, shows AK, turn nothing, river Ace... how can you snapp call an all in shove, on a 994 flop with AK? seriously, btw this was 2 hours into 7k gtd

angry

Not as bad but had KJ, limp in flop comes KQ2, bet 3/4 pot, guy comes all over the top, had been shoving light so called his all in he had K6, runner runner 10s for split pot, then got AK early pos, shove all in and button has queens, no good.

Then in the 7k an interesting hand, I had AQ in position, two callers before me raised it up to 1000 to go, think blinds were 200/400, I call rather than raise, bit risky but can give you value. Flop Axx with two hearts, I bet 1800 into the 2400 pot, he tanks, someone says to him in chat I am bluffing, when I haven't played a hand for ages. He calls. Turn blank, guy still says I am bluffing, shove in the remaining 3K, he insta calls with 5s and loses. Went to 8th but kind of imploded a bit and missed the money.

[QUOTE=Finbar]Well sounds like more than enough reason to swerve ipoker to me, not that I've actually played for months now!
QUOTE]

In cash games I have never lost long term, I am not doing great at the moment on betfair I am break-even and only making money from rakeback. However, I played on ipoker a substantial number of hands and it was the only site that I've had a loss from. I had an initial profit swing of $700 but after that it was all downhill and bad beat followed by bad beat.

I don't particularly like the 'poker is rigged' debates (even though I think they could definitely manipulate games giving bad players better odds so they profit or last longer), ipoker is though the only site that I insist I will never play on again, the beats I got dealt were obscene and constant.

Raymer Crippled

It's looking like Greg Raymer may be making an early exit from this year's WSOP.

He moved al in on a T♦ 2♦ Q♠ flop and was called by his opponent. Raymer had K♦ Q♦ for top pair and a flush draw while his opponent held pocket tens for a set.

The turn and river were blanks and, just like that, the former Main Event Champion was cut down to just 1,200.

That defines raising an average hand out of position. Not that you knew but you had 14 outs, and I don't like his flop bet either, theres an overcard and its a wet flop, what he is trying to achieve on the turn I don't know.

I think Cont. bet is pretty standard here: It's obviosuly early on so will want to build up a tightish image and checking when raising to this board is extremely weak and exploitable. And at the flop his hand is still relatively strong but he bets a small amount giving drawing hands the odds.

Cheers guys, needed to make sure I wasn't in the wrong.

Think in hindsight the call on the flop should have been a re-raise/shove but I was tilting from losing a couple of draws and the odds were appealing.

Hmmm, not so sure. This is a STT, and he's committed a third of his stack with a weak hand on 2nd or 3rd level.

We've just received word about a rather remarkable WSOP story involving Belgian player Philip Goossens.

Goossens was an online qualifier who made it safely through to day three with 92,400 chips. The story that has been passed on to us, is that Goossens' package with the online poker site only extended until yesterday, and as such we would have to pay out of his own pocket to change his flights and book further accommodation to extend his stay.

Unfortunately Goossens couldn't afford to do that, so instead of seeking some financial assistance from perhaps some friends, family or fellow players, Goossens insted decided to head home, leaving his dead stack to fend for itself.

At the moment his stack is down to 58,900 and it doesn't look like it's going to survive the day.

Im pretty sure the WSOP manages to make every wrong ruling on purpose

For the next 90 minutes, the clock will paused with 1:15:44 left in Level 16 and 751 players remaining.

"We want you all to enjoy your dinner break," tournament director Jack Effel announced. "So we will break for 90 minutes and then return for hand-for-hand play."

The reaction from the players?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOO

Four players are currently on dinner and will return to bubble the 2010 Main Event. Quite brutal.

Bansi Folds to Seven-Bet Shove

Posted 4 hours 3 minutes ago by change100

The hand started innocently enough, but ended with Praz Bansi losing about 35% of his chips without even seeing a flop.

The action was folded around to Bansi in late position. He opened for 14,000 and Ryan Eriquezzo three-bet to 36,000. Both blinds folded and Bansi came back over the top for 88,000. Eriquezzo five-bet to 150,000, Bansi put in a sixth raise to 300,000 and Eriquezzo moved all-in for about 900,000 total. He had Bansi covered.

Bansi thought for an eternity before giving up his hand and saving his last 530,000 for a better spot.

"Weeeeeeee!" said Eriquezzo, rubbing salt in the wound as he showed the {10-Diamonds}. He's up to 1.25 million.

Went fairly deep in Party Poker 688 runner, finished about 57th, but this is why I hate online poker so much, as it always rewards the idiots.

Aggressive guy in front of me (this is end stage) opens to 5K, I shove all in with AK, it's another 11K for him, no thought, he calls, I think pair but no JK, board comes down 56789 for split pot, though it gave him flush draw as well.

Then he opens for 7.5K into me, I'm down to 12K so shove all in with 7s, he has to call with ATC, he has 4K, K hits flop and I go out. Brutal.

So after leaving ipoker, it was time to find a new site. Read numerous reviews, downloaded the software from a few sites & finally settled on PokerStars. Paid in $500 (sign-up bonus is double your stake released in 10ers) & decided $6.50, 9-man turbos (5 minute blind-levels) would be my game. This was on 31st May. It all started so well. The opposition seemed really passive (95% of late position raises with **** all got through! ), I got my fair share of nice hands and, most importantly, when I got my chips in in front my hands held up in line with the percentages.

As well as using sharkscope, I keep detailed records & I turned a $400 profit through my 1st 280 games with an ROI of 21%. I once failed to cash in 7 consecutive games, but that was my worst run. Until today.

I have played 17 sit n gos, without so much as a penny back. The run of cards I've had today would have to be seen to be believed. All the usual stuff of getting them in with AK against AQ, villain rivers the Q. Flop a set of 3s, some other git's flopped a set of 8s. Got away to a nice start in 1 tournie, then got dealt KK twice in 3 hands, each time got them in pre-flop, 1st time A4, A on turn, 2nd time AQ, A on river. It's now gone 2 in the morning. As the run's gone on I vowed not to go to bed until I'd won one, but alas I've failed.

Oh yeah, just remembered. Played one large-field scheduled tournie as well. Got them in pre-flop with cow-boys again. 2 callers. JJ & QQ. Both flopped a set!

So what now? Do I quit Poker Stars as well? Wouldn't fancy skiing down my sharkscope graph right now! :sob: :sob:

There are times when I wish I'd never discovered the poxy game. If only there was no bloody luck involved... If you're a good enough player to get your chips in ahead, you automatically win the pot. Good idea, or what?! I'd be minted by now!

Rant over, it's time for bed. :o

It depends whether you play cash or tournaments? For cash I like the microgaming network and party poker. Any big site should be fine but I would strongly suggest not to use any site on the ipoker network. For tournaments microgaming isn't very good, ipoker is decent. Betfair poker has recently moved to OnGame and the tournaments there are good, I would recommend playing on a euro site if you want a decent number of runners and good prize money. Of course full tilt and stars have the most tournaments and typically biggest prize funds but the number of entrants can be very high and withdrawals used to be a lot slower.

I have made over $100k in tournaments over 2 and a half years but fell victim to idiocy on the roulette front and playing very loose on the cash game tables. Since then i have developed a system whereby i only play tournaments and that has served me well recently. So i am going for a big big total for this next coming year alone of making $100k.

Will need ultra discipline and a bit of luck but i think i can do it. I may need to give up on the goal if the games remain getting as tough as they have been. Half of me believes i can make it and the other half is just pining for that total, either way setting a loose goal like that based on some belief of my own ability to get there is healthy and i will post in on here with how it is going. I may try to take cash games and sit and gos more seriously as well when i go for this. We will see. Anyway i am excited and can't wait to get cracking at it.

1st time in ages i play, 5k rebuy, $9, so hardly breaking the bank! but anyways 90 mins in, have 7k, havent rebought at all or added on, get AJ early pos, raise 3 x BB, get a re-raise to 7xBB, everyone else folds, I call, flop comes J9J, I check, he checks..... K on Turn, I bet 700 ish, he calls, K on river, so from flopping trips im now on a full house, anyways, I bet 2.5k.... he shoves, i think about it and call, he has me covered, he shows AK, for a better full house, stupid me for not betting bigger after flop or turn.

I played a 30 seat tournament with Bertrand (Elky) Grospellier last night. Unfortunately I didn't win it but I finished one place higher than Elky (I finished 4th). Really nice guy. He was to my left on the final table which was interesting!

What stakes were you playing?, 4th would get a cash hopefully, congrats.

Ah - this is where my "success" is shown up. It was actually a freeroll (although entries were among the staff of the biggest online poker site so most knew what they were doing). Prize was player points to use in the VIP store. 4th got me points worth around 300 so can't complain.

Just getting back into a bit of online poker.

I just wondered if there are or ever have been any BBS poker competitions? If there are regular online ones where and when are they and if there aren't would anyone be up for a regular tournament? One night a week/month?

I'd be up for it... I've only been playing for a short amount of time so i'm not the best player in the world but i am improving gradually. I've just ordered some poker books and will be watching some training videos soon which will hopefully take my game to the next level and before long, I should be a multi millionaire (maybe!)

Stars has a "home Game" feature now.

This looks excellent. I have set up a club called CPFC BBS, it takes a few days for it all to be processed, but once it has I can send out a invite and anybody that's interested can join. Here's some info on it.

PokerStars introduces Online Home Games

Now you can take the experience of home games online! PokerStars Home Games lets you create and manage your own private poker club to play online poker games of your choice, with just your friends, on your schedule.

Creating a club is easy – just pick a club name and invitation code. You’ll then be presented with your own exclusive poker lobby that you can customize with private Home Game tables and tournaments of your choosing.

Inviting friends is simple – just send them the club ID and invitation code, then accept them as members when they join.

Scheduling games and tournaments is moments away – just choose the game type and buy-in level, then set the date for your online Home Game. The system will automatically notify your club members of the scheduled game.

Your exclusive online Poker Club includes these key features:

* Club Management Tools – appoint administrators, accept/remove members, customize your club lobby, set length of club seasons, and more.
* Club Leaderboard – ranks players by points earned through tournament play
* Player Statistics – view points earned, top finishes, knockouts for each club member
* Game Management Tools – customize game parameters and schedule games
* Save Favorite Game Setups – easy to replay your favorite customized game configurations
* Game Schedule – list of scheduled tournaments and open ring game tables
* Game Results – view tournament results including finish order, points earned, knockouts
* Private Games – all games and tournaments are available only to members of your club
* Custom Tables – your club name appears on the felt of your customized game tables
* Full Range of Poker Games – Choose Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, mixed games like HORSE and others
* It’s Free – there is no charge for opening and running your own online Poker Club

I used to be a $1/2 6-table grinder but had to pack it in when I bought a flat, no spare income or savings to fund a decent bankroll I could afford to lose.

Just dipping a toe back in with the odd $5 MTT and micro cash-games on pokerstars - same old rubbish, get consistently into 80-20 or 90-10 situations and they hit their 2-3 outer over 50% of the time.

On a sidenote, anyone see Liv Boeree won the Sunday Warm-up yesterday for $148,000? That woman is incredible - pro poker player with an EPT to her name, model, astrophysicist and pretty handy guitarist too.
